Thursday Thoughts - Roots that spread so deep, bring life to frozen ground

1. Joy has been elusive this year, and it might be even more so in this season that is typically joyful. Sometimes it has felt wrong to be joyful this year when so many are in pain, grieving, unemployed, angry, afraid. I came across this Mary Oliver snippet on Instagram the other day and it is a good reminder. There is always room for joy and it is always right to give into it. Joy is not made to be a crumb.

2. This glorious Nebula nail polish from 9th & Maxwell is amazing. Black-owned small business. I can't attest to wear yet as I just applied it. Their polishes are cruelty free and nontoxic, free of formaldehydes, parabens, phthalates, toluene, formaldehyde resin, DBP, camphor, xylene and ethyl tosylamide. Plus, a portion of each purchase goes towards scholarships for minority youth and grants for aspiring entrepreneurs. I bought this and another color/formulation (AKA not a glitter) to test.

3. Thanks to those who joined Show Us Your Books on Tuesday. I've read nothing since but I have watched a ton of Virgin River episodes. It is the correct amount of cheese that allows my brain to float and not work. It's a little Hart of Dixie, a little Grey's? Something. It's also based on a Robyn Carr series I never read, but some of you might have? Anyway I am comfortable saying I watch things again. Only MFD will come back to the shore and ruin my streak of watching and who knows when I'll get back to it.

4. I've worked in my apartment a few days this week in lieu of going up to my dining room office, so I keep forgetting to take stuff out of the freezer for dinner. I've been eating takeout from my locals. And fruit snacks.

5.  Bruce has been a real pill this week.

6. Outside has been cold and beautiful.

7.  Tweets and memes of the week. This fucking shit sucking Congress can agree immediately on a bloated disgustingly huge military budget but cannot pass a goddamn second economic relief bill FOR THE PEOPLE and the small businesses in month 10 of a motherfucking global pandemic that the lame president is acting like is not even happening as 280,000+ Americans are dead and 265,000 more are projected to die by April 1. Why do they only care about deficit and whine about not having the money when it's for the people? Fuck off out of here. Meanwhile the Tinfoil Hat Brigade is still sharing tweets as proof the election was rigged but only in states trump lost oh and republicans who won races in state houses in those states...their elections are legitimate. The Supreme Court, which these motherfuckers stacked with conservative nightmares...even they said hard no on interfering with a legitimate election. These people are also convinced vaccines track us, which they type into their phones that actually do. PUT DOWN THE FUCKING KOOLAID. You're draining us all.

8.  This is one of the best fucking candles out there. I have only ever found it in small shops, and Lori finds it a lot up near her. Pennsylvania/New Jersey peeps, keep an eye out. I'm mostly done my holiday shopping, we kept it small and light this year. I am in need of a vacuum and MFD is looking around for a good laptop sale to replace his like eight? nine year old one.

9. Reminder: your life. You call the shots.

10. Ecards -

What appears beyond the hyphen in Thursday Thoughts titles is what I'm listening to when I'm starting this - this week is Something So Strong by Crowded House - at the bottom of my choices when it comes to Steely Dan, but it was on
