I was off my typical reading groove quite a few times this year, and this month I felt like I slid into that comfortable reading frenzy. For me, it's not the amount of books consumed that characterizes being out of a groove or in a frenzy - it's how I feel before, during, and after reading them and how much shit I ignore doing and choose to read instead.

Tear Me Apart by J.T. Ellison - I avoided literally everything I was to do the night I couldn't put it down before finishing it, which put me in a real bind the next day but I didn't even care. It sucked me in that much. Free e-copy ARC from Netgalley, book comes out on August 28. Buy it
Tell Me Lies by Carola Lovering - I absolutely hated a few things about and characters in this book but tore through it. I think part of the reason is that because I felt like I was reading a different book than I ended up reading - it was breathy and felt dangerous in some parts, but in the end was not. If I like it enough that I can't put it down, it's elevated for me. Philly library hardback. Buy it
Summer Wives by Beatriz Williams - Mindless beach read. This most closely reminded me of A Hundred Summers, which I adored years ago. BOTMC hardback, own. Buy it
Good As Gone by Amy Gentry - I was pulled right in by this book, I read it in one sitting on the beach. Wild. I got this recommendation off of a friend on Instagram which is why I really love when people post about books they are totally into on the gram. Amazon Kindle e-copy. Buy it
The Lies We Told by Camilla Way - This is looney, just how I like them. Quick read, read it in two sittings. Free e-copy ARC from Netgalley, book comes out October 9. Buy it
Puddin' (Dumplin' #2) by Julie Murphy - I love a Julie Murphy created world, especially with these particular girls. It felt like sitting down and reading about old friends. If you haven't read Dumplin', try that one too. Philly library hardback. Buy it
How Are You Going to Save Yourself by JM Holmes - This book is heavy and doesn't sugar coat things, that's for shit sure. There are a lot of elements to this book that should have made me put it down, but I was tied in by the writing. Gritty, true, and a little hard to follow in some spots, the only part I had to go back and read was the second part of Rye's. Free e-copy ARC from Netgalley, book comes out on August 21. Buy it
A Simple Favor by Darcey Bell - Let me pass along a tip from Missy I wish I got BEFORE I started reading this - skip the first few blog post parts, or if you don't, just know the rest of the book is not like that. I was so put off by them but I'm glad I stuck with it. This one is going to be a movie I think. OCNJ library hardback. Buy it
Give Me Your Hand by Megan Abbott - This was a dark one, and required quite a bit of suspension of belief but I did like the sprinkling of gender stuff in here, it made me think. Free e-copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Buy it
Cause to Hide (Avery Black Mysteries #3) by Blake Pierce - Solid third foray into Avery Black's life. I'll continue on. Amazon Kindle e-copy. Buy it
Last Seen Alive by Claire Douglas - I did not see any of this coming. I was sitting there holding the book going wait...did I read that correctly? OCNJ library hardback. Buy it
The Wildling Sisters by Eve Chase - I liked both the story in the past and the one in the present. The pace felt off though - too slow and too fast depending on where we were in the story. OCNJ library hardback. Buy it
Not Worth It
Need to Know by Karen Cleveland - I was down with this book but quickly wasn't. Top irksome characters: smart women who are idiots. OCNJ library hardback. Buy it
When the Lights Go Out by Mary Kubica - I fucking can't. I want to tell you why I hated this book so much but I can't spoil it and it would totally be spoiling it. If you want to know highlight this text: she fucking Dallas'd it. It was all a fucking dream. Free e-copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, book comes out September 4.
