Engrossing Reads

Final Girls by Riley Sager - This was serious, don't get me wrong, but also somehow managed to read as campy. Like an adult version of that 80s cult classic Monster Squad except much darker. I'd give it a whirl. OCNJ library hardback Buy from Amazon

Any Man by Amber Tamblyn - This book turned the world on its head in the 24 hours I was reading it. And after too as I tried to digest it. Extreme violence and pain and darkness. A female rapist. Unlike any other book I've read. Paperback, own Buy from Amazon

Ohio by Stephen Markley - At times a three and at times a five, I settled on four stars on goodreads. So some of it belongs here in engrossing reads and some of it belongs below in passed the time just fine. I had quite a hard time getting into this, but it eventually dragged me under with it. Not until about a quarter through the second vignette though and even then it crept along, but the writing was beautiful. If you are not willing to do the thinking and put in the work and swallow the angst, this book is not for you. Dark and sad with some really poetic lines I kept wanting to take snapshots of.  Free e-copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Comes out August 21. Buy from Amazon

Passed the Time Just Fine

It Ends With Her by Brianna Labuskes - Totally didn't see the twister coming in this one. I like that. I forget where I even heard of this. Kindle e-book. Buy from Amazon

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens - Man, this broke my heart in a lot of ways. It felt lonely even in the reading. Free e-copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Comes out on August 14. Buy from Amazon

Her Pretty Face by Robyn Harding - Y'all got any more of those domestic thrillers? This one's on that list. Middle of the road. There was literally almost zero redeeming qualities in at least half of the characters but the read wasn't bad. Free e-copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. Buy from Amazon

He Said/She Said by Erin Kelly - Plucked this one off the shelf in passing at the library not knowing anything about it. The whole thing was fucked and I really did not see the ending coming in any way at all. OCNJ library hardback Buy from Amazon

Broken (Will Trent #4) by Karin Slaughter - Well, it's been a while, Will Trent. I liked this one with its small town fuckery and dirty cops. Paperback, own

Not Worth It
Mrs. Fletcher by Tom Perrotta - Just don't. Nothing redeemable.

Bonfire by Krysten Ritter - Just don't. One of those there must be a point, I want to know the point, where is the point, well the end is soon so I will see the point, oh there's no point books. Writing was not good enough to carry the lack of point. Book of the Month Club, own

Did Not Finish
One Little Lie by Sam Carrington - Free copy from Netgalley for an honest review and I could not get through this boring ass shit is my honest review. Fin.

The Comedown by Rebekah Frumkin - I picked it based on the cover, another grab off the library shelf. This one did not turn out well. Too much, overload. OCNJ library hardback
