1. Don't make any loud noises, because we don't want to scare it, but I think spring is here. Thank God, my house smells funky and I need to open the windows and also put my bare feet on the earth outside.
2. If you knew my Mom Mom or Grandmom or how MFD and I struggled to get where we are, you know thrift is not a foreign concept to me. But it is one I'm out of practice with. Too many years of all the time YOLO and too much convenience spending has left me a little disgusted with myself and has done nothing to advance my long term goal, which is to move to the shore full time. I am embarking on a financial cleanse. Paying shit off, cutting the fat in my spending, no non-shore vacations for two years, better grocery planning and budgeting, less on the fly eating out. Does this mean I won't spend money? No. But I will stop spending mindlessly or buying things without a clear purpose or true need. Because I like it doesn't count. Time to get serious. Shit doesn't happen magically.
3. Working from home today and tomorrow as office reno kicks off. While I'm still recovering from this hacking cough, I am not sad to be missing the commute - it is crazy how much commuting takes out of you when you're not feeling 100%. I'll be back in the office for meetings Monday and Tuesday.
4. WFH and the very delayed arrival of spring mean that today I will finally use my Christmas pedicure gift certificate since I'll be able to get there before 5:30. Hallelujah and amen. I can't wait. I haven't had polish on my toes since October.
5. Doesn't our nation's capital look beautiful at this time of year? I've lost the ability to keep track. Luckily Amy Siskind and her Weekly List have not. If you are not reading that weekly, I beg you to bookmark it and start. This is the best con job of all time.
6. I had dinner with Jen and Kelly, two lady friends I have known for over 30 years at Blue Sage last night. That's a link to their Trip Advisor. It is a pet peeve of mine when businesses let websites die or don't have them. Regardless, the meal was excellent as was the company. We took a photo, of course, but I should have washed my hair yesterday so maybe look away.
7. We were watching Billions Monday night and MFD paused the show to get something from the kitchen. In passing, he said "you make that face a lot." I said what the fuck do you mean while making that exact face. LOLOL
8. Free on Friday night? Tickets available at the door.
9. Reminder: I loved all of these thoughts from Glennon Doyle this week so I included her caption.
10. E-card of the week:
That's that. What's going on on your end?
Unfortunately I wont be able to come on Friday - hope you have a great turnout! Yes to #2!! Just say NO to stuff :) Lastly, I make a plethora of faces that I have no idea I am making. My youngest son makes all of the faces that I make and it is glorious to see what people have been seeing. Let's just say he doesn't hide his emotions well. Happy Almost Friday and yay to no commuting!!
ReplyDeleteI'm behind on Billions, but it's worth sharing that the actor who plays Wags, a character I adore, joined Instagram a couple weeks ago, and I was one of his first followers. I liked or commented on one of his posts, and he DMed me a heart emoji, and I have no idea if he was flirting with me, or just appreciative of my appreciation. I think, in some countries, David Costabile and I may now be married.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure my face just stays that way now lol.
ReplyDelete#2 makes me excited, I know I'll enjoying reading about your thriftiness.
ReplyDeleteIt's supposed to be in the 60's today... I totally cracked my kitchen window to get some of the stuffy smells out of my house while we're out today.
ReplyDeleteI have been trying to cut down on our grocery bill. Why does food cost so damn much? And the healthier we are, the more we spend. I will cross my fingers that spring will hang around for you guys.
ReplyDeleteI’m on Spring break and today is the first nice day. Makes me want to go on an adventure. I can’t keep up either I seriously think I should have started a chart to keep up with everyone coming and going at the White House.
ReplyDeleteRight now though I’m people watching while waiting for my husband and being a tiny bit snarky in my head. It’s been a long winter in my defense.
Giiiiirrrrrl, number 10! I know several someones who that could apply to!! And I agree with the large circus tent over the WH...ugh. I love that you're making a plan to move in the direction of living at the shore full time? Can I come too?? :)
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of your financial/stuff cleanse. I think it's super helpful when you have a goal that you're working toward- like shore life 24/7 :)
ReplyDeleteI think your hair looks great in that picture!
Yay for pedicures and WFH days!
I need to join you on the financial train, I have been exceeding my budget the last few months and I have nothing to show for it. Enjoy your pedicure!
ReplyDeleteGood luck to MFD! I'll be at a campaign fundraiser for someone here in South Carolina at the same time :) And commuting when sick is one of my least favorite things. Other than commuting in general. We're back to the reminding myself I love living where I do and having access to the beach and all things South Carolina while commuting to work.
ReplyDeleteYes I am so beyond ready to have these windows open. Cannot wait for tomorrow and Saturday.
ReplyDeleteThere is apparently a blizzard coming here this weekend, so I'm hoping my plane gets off the ground gets me to Texas. I want so much Spring. Good luck with the finance cleanse. The feeling of not buying whatever you want gets immediately overshadowed once you pay something off.
ReplyDeleteI'm spending the afternoon picking up dog poop because I, too, want to put my feet on the ground. This winter made poop patrol difficult. At this rate I'll be done by July.
ReplyDeleteI'm with ya on how much the work commute takes out of you. I'll take working from home any day to save on gas, tolls, road rage, and 1.5 hours of my life everyday. LOL @ #7 and the face on TV. Emily @ Martinis & Bikinis
ReplyDeleteAmen. You cannot miss your boat! Good re: spending. It is so easy to spend but for me is where I experience that ultimate high than crash. The crash isn't worth the high.
