Things I’ll Never Get Over

Dylan choosing Kelly over Brenda
Beverly Hills 90210 going off the air

Spending two hours a day commuting. It’s been over 10 years and I still miss my seven minute commute.

Creaking bones in the morning. Whose body is this?

Having freaking hair on my chin. Again...whose body is this?

The terribleness of Tuesdays

Feeling small in an awesome way in the Badlands, Grand Teton, andYellowstone National Parks

How much we know if we listen to our gut

Losing my handmade by Mom Mom childhood quilt

What a dick Dr. Houseman is - I know, I know, when he's wrong he says he's wrong but man.

The realized dream of owning a shore house

These outfits

Geege’s physical absence

donald trump as president

How casual I am about dogs peeing or pooping in the house

The importance of being a part of the community

The fact that we can all make bread and it's so simple

Thinking farts are funny / poop talk

Chi Chi's closing. I miss the taco salad and nachos every weekend.

How it feels to be alone on the beach before dawn

How different things were before cell phones, and how so many people will never know that life

The cognitive dissonance in this country right now

How I felt reading my favorite books for the first time

How much I love hearing Clarence Clemons sax solos

Needing a lot of alone time

What are some things you'll never get over?

  1. Unfortunately I’m going to be a Debbie downer and I apologize;
The words “I’m sorry there’s no heartbeat” twice
Then at a follow up appointment “when is your due date?” Read the gosh darn file

    1. You’re not a a Debbie Downer! We are always as free to be as serious or not as we want here. So sorry on both - and angry on the last one too.

    2. Wow...you aren't a Debbie downer. That is real & a much needed reminder. Very sorry.

  2. That Britney and Justin picture gets me every time. I mean those outfits! Ha.

  3. I love an empty beach in the wee hours of the morning.
Also, I like the intentional lower case.
Also also, it's SO weird to think about a time before cell phones (or to watch a movie or tv show before cell phones were a thing)!

  4. Just a few: How small I feel (in the best way) when I'm near the ocean, the amount of love we are capable of feeling for other humans, how smart dogs really are.

  5. The beach at dawn....nothing compares. And I love the smallness I feel standing in front of the ocean, too. Losing my grandparents, but my mom's mom in particular. She left me way too early in my life. My gut instinct and realizing how amazing our souls are and that if we take time to listen, we hear so much. I was thinking about Clarence Clemons not that long ago. Losing friends in the physical realm, but knowing they are still with us and will speak to us if we pay attention.

  7. Omg! It's so funny that you mention the Brenda/Dylan/Kelly triangle. My 13 yo is actually bingeing the series right now and loves it!! I think she's on season 8 or 9.

  8. Hahahaha I will never get over those outfits either. Chi Chi's!!! Oh gosh, I do miss that place! We had one in Greenburg. I often wonder if cell phones and technology really is a good thing or not. I personally liked life before more.

  9. It is amazing to me kids will never know what a tech-free world looks like.
With our blind boy Bruno, our kitchen has basically become his toilet since he thinks he's outside - & I'm amazed how we just consider it part of our daily routine to clean up pee & poop ourselves. We'll get new floors when he passes away but until then, I'm the PEE QUEEN.
I'll never get over the absence of our dogs as well. Those gaps will always be there.

  10. I have three rogue hairs on my chin and one straggler on my neck and every time the light catches them, I’m like where the FK did you come from??!! This must be a thing of your thirties because this shit sure as hell didn’t crop up before 30.
I hear you on the commute - my train travel is 2 hours a day plus about 25 minutes walking door to door. Last week I doubled my commute as I was house/pet sitting for a coworker that lives 45 minutes away. I’m such a good friend. LOL

  11. The chin hair is the worst. Ha same with dogs and peeing, Ginger just nonchalantly peed on my freshly washed couch (inspired by you!) and I could not get over how it didn't phase me and I just put the slipcover back in the washer. I will never get over the feeling of ziplining and how calm the beach makes me. Oh and yeah Donald Trump as president, ugh.

  12. An empty beach before everyone gets there is perfection. Im always envious of your sunrise photos! And the beachhouse haha. I can't get over Trump as pres either. Not sure I ever will. I remember the days of 90210--man I loved that show!!
Love the idea of this post!

  14. HA, CHI-CHIs!!!!!! used to LOVE that place.

  15. Thank god I’m not the only one with the chin hair. Every time I find one, it’s like, “How the hell did that get here?” I’m 40, not 80! And why are they darker than the rest of my hair?

    1. Oh my friend...you are so not alone on the chin hair.

Mine are darker AND longer. Like, really really long. How did it go unnoticed? Did someone notice and just not tell me?

  16. I will honestly probably still be thinking about those matching horrendous 00s denim outfits on my death bed. As for the feeling small in those places, I wish everyone could have at least one of those moments in their life. It's the most awe worthy but humbling but peaceful thing? To be in this nature that's huge and always been there and we're just one of many to have experienced it.

  17. Every time I saw this I started singing the "I'll never get over you getting over her me" song. I don't even remember the name or the band. Just the song. Thanks for putting that in my head.

The feeling of absolute freedom I feel when I step off US soil and realize that I have the luxury of traveling almost anywhere (subject to multiple interpretations relating from passport-luxury to financial-luxury).

The feeling that comes from being treated kindly by people for no other reason than that they are being kind. Though it should be expected, execution varies significantly.

How refreshing clean sheets always feel.

  19. I was just thinking about Chi Chi's the other day. They had the best chips and salsa. I still can't get over the fact that Trump is president. It feels like a nightmare every single day.
