TWTW - the one before my birthday

Friday night I saged my house and every being in it in an effort to banish negativity from the hit piece on MFD that appeared in the paper and online Friday. A state rep race out of the gate is not news in our district...unless someone makes it news. Do you have to give up your soul and humanity to do that to other people? I think you might. I heard MFD's side of the conversation and that wasn't exactly how it went. A good reminder that many things in the paper are some version of the truth but not all of it LOL. Thankful more than ever for the mighty village of the people in our lives. This hangs in our basement and it is 100% truth. When you're honest with yourself and the people in your life, you take the hit and stand right back up because you know who you are and what you're about. What he's not about is a whitewashed, perfect Stepford past, present, or future. We have all fucked up and will continue to, and if you think and act like you haven't or won't, that's a problem that's going to come back on you.
Saturday I finished a book, put laundry away, purged some stuff (including some of MFD's stuff, which never, ever happens), texted voters on behalf of Conor Lamb for the special election coming up this week, ate a MFD-made dinner, and watched some Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. I fell asleep contorted around three dogs on the couch and woke up feeling every single bit of nearly 41. My aching back for real.
Sunday was tough to get up and go with the aching back and the time change. I kill it every Sunday of fall back and walk through sludge of every Sunday of spring forward. I visited Pop for his 87th birthday and got to hang with my mom and Lori there and at Stephen & Aubrey's after, where we visited the best niece and nephew ever and had lunch from Jay's. The pugs were happy I saw Treat Lady because they enjoyed the bones she brought for them. I got this awesome mug for my birthday from Emily and put new pug canvases up on the gallery wall that I didn't add the other week. MFD changed the sheets and I did some picking up and ran the dishwasher and started a new book and suddenly it was 8 pm.
Weekly food prep: Birthday week and only three days at work so nah. I did make a pork loin and buternut squash Sunday night but after I wrote this up so no pics. Breakfast is breakfast burritos though, I always have those in the freezer. I'm going to have to get creative for lunch using whatever's in the fridge and pantry.

Show Us Your Books with me and Jana tomorrow! See you back here for that.

  2. So sorry to hear about the article on MFD...what on earth is wrong with people? Your pop is the cutest. Hope this week brings more cheer your way and I'm so glad the mug arrived. Happy birthday my friend! xo Emily @ Martinis & Bikinis

  3. Boo on the article. Sometimes people really make me mad.
Friday I traveled to NYC with our youth group and others for a retreat. I wanted to post pictures on my blog that needs to be awakened. Saturday was walking around Nyc and traveling home then sleeping 10.5 hours including the time change.
Menus happened in my head and that is as far as food prep happened.

  4. Ugh. People who have the experience of making a mistake (or having a past) are the ones who can most relate to other people.
The time change is particularly rough this year. I didn't even remember to change the clocks.
Hope your 3-day week goes quickly!

  8. Put some black tourmaline around the house too, and have Mike carry one in his pocket... as good for removing negativity as sage, and portable to boot!

  9. Mud-slinging in politics is basic schoolyard bullying - glad MFD didn't stoop to their level and hopefully the voters will see this as well. Short work weeks should be a requirement for birthday weeks!

  10. Ahhh - Pop! Happy Birthday to him!
Oh no... already bad press? I dont get the slams that politics takes on now. Sorry you all have to deal with it.
I'm the same way - this lose an hour in the Spring KILLS a bit of my soul each time around.

  11. I'm sorry about the hit piece and how ugly politics seems to get now. I have faith that you guys will power through--and that good will win!

  13. You've inspired me to sage our house as part of our spring cleaning this year. Out with the bullshit and negativity. Sorry to hear about the mudslinging, but I'm sure you guys will rise above. Happiest of birthday weeks. Have the best week full of good food, less work, dogs, free coffee and books.

  14. Ugh. Sorry to hear about the hit piece on MFD. In trying to see the positive in the negative, it must mean he's a contender. And you are absolutely right that everyone has skeletons in their closet. Anyone who says otherwise is not only a liar but also never learned anything from their past mistakes. I woke up this morning completely and utterly confused because I always handle losing an hour better on the Sunday it happens, than on the Monday that follows.

  15. Sorry about the article. It is ridiculous that people will construe the facts and be negative but that is apparently the "alternative facts" universe we live in. You have to have thick skin to be in public life and I am sending y'all those types of vibes. Hope your short week feels shorter than it is!

  16. That's gross about the nasty politics right out of the gate - people truly are ridiculous and very shady with all of that now. I'm sorry you two have to deal with that. Hopefully people see through it and realize how one sided it all is. I also hope that your positive attitude helps you soar through your birthday and have a good time!

  17. Good idea to sage and get rid of the negativity. Letting go of it and focusing on MFD's race and positive message are the best thing to do I think!!

  18. I'm still so angry for you about that article. Such bullshit. I just received Not That I Could Tell from BOTM, but I'm not sure when I'll get to it.

  19. So infuriating about the hate piece. It shows the worst side of people when they go after someone for their past mistakes (that have been paid for) and act like their own glass house is shatterproof. Ridiculous.
I hope you have a fabulous birthday week!!!!

  20. That pug mug is everything. I'm definitely a fan of that. I'm still annoyed and angry that politics turns so personal and nasty in ways that aren't at all relevant to representing people. LONG LIVE MFD. I'm excited for the issues debate... if his opponent will even show.
