Thursday Thoughts - gonna fly now

1. We have survived the longest month of winter. Can I get a hell yeah?

2. I gathered prints to change out wall decor in January. Here we are, February 1. Same stuff on the walls. Better luck this month? Here’s how I did on my January 7. Good thing I wasn't set to do anything this week. All I've done is read and sleep.

3. Monday I went to an acupuncturist who specializes in the tender point release technique. The needles go into a trigger point and are manipulated until what is locked up releases and sort of twitches out. It is really bizarre but lord did it help. I cannot believe all the shit jammed up on my right side, having a pinched nerve in my neck since June and not realizing it was a pinched nerve. She is awesome - if anyone is considering acupuncture for musculoskeletal  or sports injuries, you must get in with this woman. I go back next week but just the first visit was a tremendous relief. I forgot what it was like to feel almost normal. I came home and slept like the dead for 10 hours.

4. About that sleeping...I have a water based pillow, a rolled up towel at the base of my neck, and a pillow under my knees. I am like an un-mummified mummy. When Cameron was in Egypt’s land...whatever, I don't care, I will do what I need to do to maintain pain-free living.
5. Did you know the jury system will now text you that you are excused? I got the text yesterday afternoon with my get out of jury duty free card for today.

6. I trekked over to South Philly yesterday to pick up an Eagles shirt I was dumb enough to pre-order but not ship to myself. I figured let me go to a part of the city I don't see too often! Fool. Google told me the wrong gaht damn time for the store opening and I was too early by an hour, so I slunk my ass back to Center City. At least I saw some good street art, which I love. And the awesome guy at South Fellini is sending my shirt to me overnight.
7. What are you making for the super bowl? Cool to have the hometown team in it and all but let’s be real the snacks are where it’s at. We’re going out because MFD refuses to stay home. I will be appearing in lounge attire. I think I'm making these bacon wrapped tater tots as an app and I may be in need of an easily transportable/no fuss dessert. Any ideas? I'm not averse to buying.

8. No, I did not watch the State of the Union. I do not listen to trump speak because it makes me physically ill. I read the transcript the next day, which is also vomit inducing. Instead I watched Bruce Springsteen chase his tail because that is more productive than the jagoffs in charge of this country. Otherwise, this week in politics, racist rhetoric everywhere concerning immigrants, constitutional crisis with the president refusing to apply sanctions against Russia that Congress overwhelmingly voted into law, Nunes made changes to the memo he sent to the White House without getting them approved by the Committee, and oh, fuck it, I'm done for the week. Except for this Mad TV skit that is how the modern republican party is approaching life and this American Constitution Society for Law and Policy report on how illegal the activities in opposition to Mueller and his investigation are. Okay okay I'm really done. Unless anyone is interested in donating to MFD's State Rep campaign - he is now official and able to take contributions. If we want to keep corporate money out of politics we need to pony up to support people.

Any thoughts to share with the class this week?

  1. I have done ship-to-store to save a few dollars and when I'm waiting in line or whatever I'm doing that takes longer than picking it up from my mailbox or front porch I'm always like why and I such a cheapskate...time is money!! Anyway, yay for getting out of jury duty! My easy desserts are rice krispy with melted chocolate and butterscotch chips on top or dump cake. We buy the metal roaster pans, I think is what they're called and make all things to go now in those, lol! Chocolate chip cookies are always another good one to take. Can you tell sweets are my thing?!

  2. I'm still a little sad & bitter about the Vikings not being in the SB... but I'm still going to a party at my friends' house and one of them is a Patriots fan. Me? I'm team Justin Timberlake this year & all about the snacks! I'm making a pickle dip & was looking for something else to make and those bacon wrapped tator tots have now made the short list.

  3. I was contacted for jury duty in Alaska shortly after we moved here. All I had to say was that we were military and lived in Colorado and that got me out of it.

  4. My go-to easy dessert is Marshmallow brownies -- bake a pan of brownies, while it's still warm pour marshmallow cream over the top. While that sets, put a container of frosting in the microwave to warm/almost liquify and then pour that over the marshmallow cream. Someone said that's also called Mississippi Mud Pie -- but I've never been to Mississippi so it's called Marshmallow Brownies.

  6. One bad ship-to-Store experience at Wally World and that was the end of that. So glad February is here. I can see Spring from here even if it snows all month.

  7. Love your e-card! The unmummified mummy had me lol'ing--the things we do for comfort! I'm totally intrigued by your acupuncture experience! I wish I was closer so I could give her a try and get rid of this awful tension in my shoulders/neck!
I only watched bits and pieces of the SOTU for the same reasons as you, and then looked up all of the facts (REAL facts) about it afterwards. The self aggrandizing continues to be TOO MUCH and I can't take it.

  8. I'm one of those with a pillow between my knees. I'm a side sleeper and I can't seem to get comfortable ever right now. I need your acupuncturist. My imagination is running wild at the thought of feeling normal again. How does all that shit get jammed in our bodies?? YAY for someone to ship a shirt to you... we're hosting a super bowl party. That's all I know. I'll be freaked out and looking for suggestions soon. LOL

  9. I love the sermon image.
Also, I was trying to figure out why the singer Bruce Springsteen was chasing his tail. Or what that even meant. Hahahahaha. I'm a moron.
I need to try acupuncture. And I need to drag my dad along, I think.

  10. I did not watch SOTU either because I knew it would make my head explode. Plus getting good ratings makes Putin's Puppet happy and I'm petty enough to find satisfaction in him not earning bragging rights, although he lied on Twitter about having the best ratings ever because he just can't help but lie. Moron. I've lived in LA for more than 10 years and had 3 jury summons but never been seated. Knock on wood. The last time they were selecting a jury for a case expected to last at least 3 weeks and I've never seen 100+ plus people get so panicked. :D I'm glad acupuncture has been helping! It honestly scares me a bit but if it works - that's what matters!

  12. And here I was thinking January flew by! Haha! I'm so glad acupuncture is helping! Jacob used to do it before MMA fights, I can't remember why though. I tried to sleep with a wedge under my back, but I move around a lot. I sleep right through it, but Jacob lets me know. Haha!

  13. I skipped the state of the union for the same reasons. I watched Drunk History instead.

I don't think I'm making any food for the Super Bowl and I don't think I'm even leaving my house.

  14. So glad to hear the acupuncture offered you some relief! Buffalo chicken dip is usually my go to for a quick party food that always seems to be well loved. I usually just use a rotisserie chicken to save time.

  15. I cannot listen to one minute's worth of his SOTU. I cannot stomach his face or his words or his aura or his smirk...
That accupuncturist sounds like EXACTLY what I need!

  16. I'm so glad acupuncture is working for you! I used to get it for migraines and I didn't really see a relief but there were a lot of other factors at play when I did it, so I'd totally do it again. I found the whole process relaxing and anxiety-reducing, and I know it's done a lot of good for people.

  17. I'm surprised you still have a water based pillow with Bruce wreaking havoc in your house! I'm so excited for the Superbowl for the first time in years. And because I'm tired of going out, Blue and I are hosting a small gathering. Philly cheesesteak cheesy bread, spinach artichoke dip, wings, baked ziti because there's a veg-head in our group, and brownie sundae bowls are on the menu. Those tots look delicious. We're going shopping tonight so I may add those too. Brownies are usually an easy win, and you can make them extra festive with some white icing laces (like a football) on top.

  18. That is awesome that acupuncture is working for you! Your sleeping set up is serious. Bacon wrapped tator tots sound amazing! I haven't decided what I am making for the Justin Timberlake concert/commercials yet. I need to narrow that shit down!

  19. I've always been interested in trying acupuncture, but I haven't really had an actual need for it. It's good to know that it's worth checking out if/when I ever need it.

We didn't watch The State of the Union either. Neither of us could handle that shit.

Eric is, however, watching the SuperBowl today while I catch up on blogging stuff. I'm not a big football person (though I'll watch games sometimes because Eric is obsessed with all things football and I like to support his interests as he supports mine). You'll be happy to know that he's going for Philadelphia this year. :-) We are having SuperBowl-ish food today (crockpot turkey sloppy joes), but neither of us are leaving the house or getting out of our lounge clothes today. The tater tots sound delicious!

  20. Your acupuncture experience sounds awesome - I've only ever had it for very specific injuries (shoulder and foot) and it was great both times but so glad you are experiencing relief from it. So excited for Philadelphians today - what an incredible game.
