The Woman in the Window by A.J. Finn - I must have pre-ordered this, because when it arrived from Amazon, it was a surprise. I dove right into it and it had me on the move as much as one can be on the move while reading, which is a sedentary activity. I got only one of my guesses correct. This will be a popular book. A lot of people, like me, will read it in the first wave and take it as it is and like it. Many people will read it in the second wave, expect perfection because of its popularity, and crap on it. Undone (Will Trent #3) by Karen Slaughter - This packed the biggest punch of the three Trent books I've read so far. I will continue with the series. Philly library hardback, read in December
Violent Ends by 17 authors - Seriously well done book comprised of chapters by 17 different authors of perspectives of those affected by a school shooting. Read this. Philly library hardback, read in December
Passed the Time Just Fine
Next of Kin (Detective Buddy Lock Mysteries #1) by James Tucker - This has been on my kindle for quite a while. Not a bad start to a series. I am forever in search of series books I know I will like just fine. I'll try another. Kindle e-book, read in December
Lie to Me by Sabine Durant - The main character reminded me of many great grifters I've read throughout my reading years. I liked how the author choreographed his demise. free e-copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, read in December
When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon - YA and a super cute love story peppered with some culture. I am not a huge love story reader but I loved Dimple and Rishi and Rishi's brother. Philly library hardback, read in December
Dead Scared (Lacey Flint #2) by Sharon J. Bolton - It's so weird. I like these, but like the first one this one took me forever to read. I'm not sure why, and I don't think it will stop me from continuing. Flint is a ballsy character and I like that. Philly library hardback, started in December and finished in January
I'd Know You Anywhere by Laura Lippman - A very interesting premise with some fumbles in the execution. It also felt like Lippman was trying to inject some suspense into a story that didn't need it. Philly library hardback, read in January
The Serial Killer's Daughter by Lesley Welsh - This was possibly overly long for what it was and a little surface but I read it in under 24 hours. I was lured in by the title, of course. Who doesn't want serial killer books for Christmas? ho ho no Paperback, own

It feels weird to be linking up with you guys again (but in a good way). This was one of the things I missed most about blogging. But anyway ... On to the books!
ReplyDeleteI love that you said you only got one of your guesses right in The Woman in the Window. I love a thriller that's unpredictable!
I added Violent Ends when Jana read and reviewed it a while ago. I wasn't 100% sold on the seventeen authors thing, but I'm glad to see that it worked well.
The Serial Killer's Daughter definitely has a very enticing title! Haha.
It's too bad Swimming Lessons wasn't good ... That cover is gorgeous!
I've seen Woman in the Window all over the place and was wondering if it lived up to its hype. It's good to hear that it did! I also read Lie with Me last month. I liked it although Paul really got on my nerves. I did not like Swimming Lessons either, although I did not DNF it but wish I had. :D I'm glad you enjoyed Next of Kin. It's not revolutionary but it's one of those solid mystery series that I enjoy. When Dimple Met Rishi is already on my TBR. I am generally not a huge fan of romantic YA but I've heard so many good things about this one.

ReplyDeleteI saw When Dimple Met Rishi in a must read list of YA books! Good to know you enjoyed it too - sometimes I wonder if those lists are just promotion from publishers :)
ReplyDeleteViolent Ends was one of the first books I read in 2016 and it was the stick by which I measured all other books that year. It still haunts me.

Is Woman in the Window anything like Hitchcock's Rear Window? That's what I keep picturing. Bummer about Swimming Lessons - it's one of those where the cover would totally make me pick it up.

I'm so curious about The Woman in the Window AND Violent Ends, so I'm glad you really loved both of those. I thought When Dimple Met Rishi was really cute; I'm excited for the companion novel. I believe I have Next of Kin on my Kindle...I'll have to try and read that one soon. I really liked I'd Know You Anywhere - I think that was the first book by the author I'd ever read.

Whenever I see Swimming Lessons I think it looks interesting, but when I actually look at what it's about there's something that keeps me from wanting to read it. I can't remember where I heard about Woman in the Window but it was already on my TBR so I'm glad to read you enjoyed it so much!

LOL Also, I was just looking at I'd Know You Anywhere, and by looking at it, I mean literally on one of my bookshelves as I own it but haven't read it yet. Oy.

ReplyDeleteViolent Ends sounds so intense but it sounds really really good. I'm reluctantly adding it to my TBR list. I've seen enough people (with different reading preferences) rave about When Dimple Met Rishi that it needs to go on the TBR list for sure.

ReplyDeleteI feel like I always end up falling into wave 2 of those big popular books, especially thriller types. I put off reading them for a long time because I always feel like it won't live up to the hype. Or I wait so long I forget the hype. ha!
ReplyDeleteMe too! I'll get excited to talk about a book I've read, then I'll see that it's been out for three years. And has two sequels already. We can just say that we prefer to let others have the first wave of excitement lol.

The Woman in the Window keeps popping up in my circles - people with lots of varied reading preferences - all seeming to enjoy it. Onto the list it goes. :) I need to get better about "officially" abandoning books that just aren't doing it for me - too often I keep trying to go back to them which stalls reading in general - and it's not like I have a shortage of books I want to be reading. Looking forward to expanding my TBR list as I visit around the link-up.

I haven't read any Karin Slaughter...hmmm, might have to look her up! And I'm with you - not usually a huge fan of YA love stories, but When Dimple Met Rishi was such a fun read. I think the added cultural element definitely helped add some depth.

ReplyDeleteSuch a bummer when a book with a beautiful cover ends up being a dud. I mean, I know what they say, but I find myself judging books by their covers all the time! I have When Dimple Met Rishi on my list. I'm not a big YA reader but it seems like it would be a nice book to read between longer/heavier titles.

ReplyDeleteYay, I'm definitely going to read The Woman in the Window at some point this year - it is already getting a lot of hype!! A full day of just relaxing and reading sounds absolutely perfect. Especially if it's chilly out.
ReplyDeleteI'm on the fence with Dimple because it sounds almost too cutesy. Disappointed to hear about Swimming Lessons- it sounded so promising! The Woman in the Window sounds a bit like The Girl on the Train (which, admittedly, I didn't read). I'm intrigued.

I appreciated the author's ability to say some really profound things in such an otherwise cutesy book. I thought it was a good mix.
