Happy Saturday, people. Today I'm sharing an article submitted by Alec Neufeld . Alec is a retired builder, now freelance writer and part-time general fix it man. He has strong opinions on the use of alternate energy and is also an avid sports enthusiast.
In talking with friends, I think I'm a little unusual on the color picking for homes. I pick a few paint colors, hold them up against the wall, and slap one on. I don't agonize over it. Likewise, I don't agonize over matching things in rooms. I prefer an eclectic look and to be surrounded by things and colors and textures that I love. If I find something I like, I buy it, and I make it work or I return it. Still, solid tips here if you are doing some decorating:

When it comes to choosing the perfect color combinations for
your home, the possibilities are endless. But a fun way to go about doing so is
to focus on color combos that project specific moods and feelings throughout
your home. These color schemes will help you choose the perfect look and feel
for every room in your home.
Kitchen
If you’re looking to remodel
your kitchen, then you need to find countertops that are going to complement
the color of your cabinets or backsplash. Although changes like a new paint
color or stained cabinetry are fairly easy to accomplish at any point of your
home renovation, it can get expensive if it’s not planned out properly.
Therefore, it’s important to find the right combinations to achieve your
desired look no matter what your style or budget may be. Paint colors like grey
and white can give your kitchen a fresh look and match with practically any
surface or texture from granite countertops to dark stained wood cabinets to
stainless steel appliances. These combinations will give your kitchen a modern,
clean look that fits perfectly in any home.
Living
Room
Since your living room is the most common area of the house,
you’ll want to have color combinations that are warm and inviting. Some common
colors like neutrals, browns, greens, yellows, and other subtle pastel colors
will provide a calm and peaceful vibe. To complement your paint color of
choice, you’ll want to make sure you choose
the right flooring, too. Neutral-colored carpet is usually the best choice for
living room floors since it adds a warm, cozy touch — literally and
aesthetically. If you have hardwood flooring, it’s a good idea to add a soft
area rug that maybe has a fun pattern to tie the whole room together. These
inviting elements are key since living rooms are often the center of attention
in your home from hosting get-togethers to relaxing nights in.
Bathroom
More often than not, homes tend to have multiple bathrooms,
which allows for different color schemes and decor themes for each bathroom.
Perhaps this is the one room in the house where you can truly let the creative
juices flow. Bathrooms have countertops, cabinets and flooring so you’ll need
to choose a color that complements all three. But since bathrooms take up such
little space in the home, it’s safe to choose more outgoing, brighter
color combinations with fun patterns. Painting your walls a happy color like
yellow can brighten things up and add a fun pop of color. For larger bathrooms,
like the master bedroom, that tend to have built-in amenities like jacuzzi
tubs, you might want to choose deep colors to create a relaxing space. Like the
living room, neutral hues may be your go-to colors for a spa-like ambiance
right in your master en suite.
Bedroom
Bedrooms provide more room for creativity since they are very
personal spaces. Your bedroom is the one space that is 100% yours, but picking
the wrong color for your bedroom can drastically change your mood. It has
been shown that choosing red walls for your room could be associated
with anger, and raise your blood pressure and heart rate! Since your bedroom
should be your “happy” place for optimal sleep and relaxation, you should avoid
harsh dark hues. Instead, it is recommended to choose lighter hues, like
lavender or sea foam green, that tend to have a more calming effect for a more
tranquil bedroom atmosphere.
When carefully planning out your color combinations, keep these
ideas in mind to create the perfect mood for every room of your home!

How do you approach home decor and choosing colors?
I just like the sound of the name sea foam green on this wintry Saturday. I feel like painting our bedroom that color right now. I wish I had Samantha Stevens bewitched powers ❣️ Twitching my nose and the job is done. Google that, youngsters. Lol. Love. Your. Momma.
ReplyDeleteVery good advice! However, I put a red wall in our bedroom and I love it!
ReplyDeleteWith the rooms in our house that we've remodeled so far, I've just picked a paint color, bought it, and put it on the wall all in one day. No agonizing. However, I am STRUGGLING with what color to paint our kitchen. I spent a significant amount of time staring at paint chips in Lowe's today, in fact. So this post is perfectly timed!!
ReplyDeleteI need this - I don't really pick colors based on furniture or decor, just whatever I like. But it takes me forever to get around to picking anything anyway (ex: one bathroom has been simply primed but no color for the past 5 months).
