Thursday Thoughts - in full FI mode

1. My attitude this week, for no specific reason aside from a possible link to the summer Fuck It Phase:

2. I am a 40 year old woman who consistently gets zits in the same two spots. The latest in my attempt to throw money at the problem. I got a great deal and honestly? I've always felt like I was washing my face poorly. This has a timer like my Sonic toothbrush. It's like learning to care for yourself all over again as an adult who should already know this shit.

3. Things that have annoyed me on my neighborhood facebook groups this week: eleventy billion people reporting that their trash has not been picked up to all of us on facebook but only seven to 10 people actually reporting a problem to the city (Philly page); eleventy billion people asking what to do with kids on a rainy day at the shore (OCNJ page, question has been asked and answered 203948203948023948 times in the history of the page). You?

4. Immediately after I said I haven't watched TV forever last Thursday I started watching Ozark. I have one episode left. I love Jason Bateman and really like Laura Linney in this too. I can't recall loving her in anything in the past. Everyone in town is crazy or has a sneaky side hustle or weird secret. My kind of show.

5. I've already purchased a new sweatshirt, pair of leggings, kicking around shoes I can wear at work, athleisure shoes, and old lady black comfortable enough to commute in shoes for the fall. If you can't tell, I'm turning over all of my shoes right now and those that are not comfortable for old lady feet must go. Aside from a new sweater or two, I'm probably set for the season though thanks to some good Nordstrom sales. Someone remind me of this later when I want to buy shit I don't need because it's pretty.

6. Is anyone else concerned that two man toddlers are in a pissing match over nuclear war and we have no one working our State Department right now? In a world where everyone has nukes, we need diplomacy. Not threats to use them. A president must be able to de-escalate conflict, not disregard advisers in favor of doing and saying whatever the fuck he wants in public to ramp it up and endanger the world. That's what Kim Jong-un does. We're so worried about him because he's crazy and unpredictable. Those traits describe our own leader. He is unhinged and mentally unfit to hold the office. It is time to invoke the 25th Amendment. But never mind this paltry shit. Let's go back to discussing her emails. I'm alarmed by how many people seem A-ok with nuclear war. You guys, what are we even fucking doing?

7. Two things to keep your eye on: a) State TV is coming your way soon via Trump TV - just like North Korea and Russia, you will hear what the government wants you to hear! Have you brushed up on your 1984 lately? I see many of you have. If you don't like the sound of any of this, you can call the FCC at 1-888-225-5322. B)  The U.S. Global Change Research Program Climate Science Special Report that this inept administration will undoubtedly try to label as fake news being that they are science deniers is out for you to peruse.

8. I never thought I'd be an avid reader of a pastor blogger but damn if John Pavlovitz has not been resonating with me, one of the least religious people on earth. Take some of these excerpts (below) from a recent blog post about why he opposes Donald Trump - I feel like they were written from my own heart, especially about the reasons why I continue to call out what I see and how this goes far beyond one man and even beyond politics in general. And this reverberated so fiercely within me: I'm probably not going to apologize for being passionate about people. Me neither, John. But in my case make probably definitely. That's a promise.

9. Reminder:

10. E-card of the week: Some weeks. Like this one. LOL

Congrats to Christy P for winning my $60 six year anniversary giveaway

Today is my Friday.

  2. I really need to take a break from The Office watch Ozark! It's on my watch list already but everyone keeps talking about how great it is.

  3. I sing two choruses of happy birthday when I brush my teeth. 1984. Jmj. Jmj. God and Goddess help us all. Manifesting peace and love and lights. Love. Your. Momma.

  4. Definitely looking into Ozark. It sounds like a gripping show!! I love that Rumi quote and the words from that pastor. Also love the first picture with the sunglasses ;) AND your new sparkly shoes are awesome!

  5. The question of what to do with kids on a rainy day at the beach grates. How about do some research or take your kid to the beach.

  6. I'm also worried by how Trumps is handling the north Korea situation!

  7. I hope you share your thoughts on the Clarisonic. I've looked at them several times but haven't committed yet.

  8. I read 1984 in middle school (probably because it was around the year 1984) and re-read it again recently. Scary scary stuff that is SUPPOSED to be fiction. Being a midwesterner, when we're on a beach vacation and it rains, we still go to the beach. We don't swim but heck, rain jackets are made for a reason and we've had some good finds beachcombing in the rain. yeah, we're not local.

  9. LOVE my Clarisonic. I bought one years ago and even though it wasn't cheap it has done wonders for my skin. Love the feeling after using it, so smooth. What is Ozarks about? I've had it recommended to me a few times already.

  10. I have been hearing all good things about Ozark, really need to check it out.

  11. We flew through Ozark and really enjoyed it, though I always think of Laura Linney when she would do the Downton introduction for PBS before each episode.

  12. Girl, I feel you since going off the pill I have been trying to get my skin back in control for over a year. Also that last e-card is hysterical!

  13. RE #6, this is exactly what I've been afraid of for more than a year. This is the reason I got so pissed at the "you're just mad your girl didn't win" crowd. This is real, and those of us who understand politics and government to even a tiny degree knew this was possible.
#7, thanks for providing that info.
    Love that #9.

  14. I've been using the Clarisonic Mia for years because adult acne can suck it! My skin is not clear by any means, but I feel that it does the best job of thoroughly deep cleaning my skin from all the daily dirt and makeup. And Facebook in general just annoys me, I'm so sick of people using it as a platform to air dirty laundry or ask questions that you can just google :-P

  15. LOL at the ecard, that is definitely my life. ugh I feel you on the zits - I'm too old for this shit. Mine are barely there though and it's always hormonal related, so what can ya do, right?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Hahaha that ecard! Yes! I love the No sweatshirt too. My neighborhood page is filled with people bitching about the trash company or the roads or whatever too and not a damn one of them calls to see why the trash wasn't picked up or goes to a city hall meeting to ask where our tax money is going if we have to drive through a crater and nearly fall off the earth every time we drive down our road. I am so tired of everyone on facebook asking ridiculous questions too. Ask Alexa or fucking google it people!

  17. I keep hearing about Ozark... I need to check it out.
That NO sweatshirt... all the YES!
I get a zit if my dog licks my face. EVERY TIME. The exact place where he hits me with that tongue. I never let him do it, but he'll sneak it in every now & then when I'm hugging him & I scream every time ZIIIITTTTTTT

  18. I've also heard good things about Ozark before so after I finish Life in Pieces that might be my next binge show. :) Also, fun fact...John Pavlovitz used to be my boss. :)

  19. Wow to #8. And to #6 - Frightens and angers me on so many levels. This is not real estate or the business world where you can bluff or sue. It's the real world with real lives. And two grown ass men with the emotional competence of a toddler who just got his favorite toy taken away can destroy it all.
I haven't had a zit for sometime but yesterday I got big 'ol one my chin. So annoying and I can't stop touching it, which makes it worse. I know. But I swear there should be some rule somewhere that once you hit 40, zits disappear forever!

  20. Ohhhh, I like the FI phase!

I have the summary of the climate reports sitting on my desk to read. I can't read it. I have to, but I can't. I mean, I will. TODAY!

Love that blog excerpt. Thank you for sharing.

  21. SHIT I want that sweatshirt.
I can't wrap my head around how OK everyone seems with all these nuclear war threats. Um. We went through this once and called it The Cold War. Like, this kind of conflict was a BIG DEAL at one point. WTF is wrong with everyone.
Ozark looks SO good and it's been recommended to me countless times, but per the PSA on my blog today it's just 100% not something I can watch. Sigh.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I need to go look up Ozark pronto because I love me some Jason Bateman! How did I now know about that?!

Oh my gosh... I know you have pugs. Is that yours in the top picture? I'm in love. Pugs are my number one favorite breed. I need one.

  23. Thank you for Sharing that pastor's blog. I've read like the past three months of posts and whole heartedly agree with his point of view. It blows me away that more Christians do not have his point of view. If you are really going to be a follower of Christ, shouldn't you believe what he did? Like for real. But Thank you for always being real and posting awesomeness. Keep the resistance going. Never the less, she persisted.

  24. That sweatshirt is pure win! I have a Clarisonic and as long as I remember to use it regularly (I am lazy) it helps with the zits.

We are in such crazy shape right now that I fantasize about Pence, McConnell, and Ryan devising a plan to oust 45. And it's not like I'm a fan of either of those 3, I just think that Pence wouldn't be in a pissing contest with North Korea. He'd be taking away rights, but at least I can fight against that. My Resistbot can't send faxes to Kim Jong-un.

  25. i don't want to buy a clarisonic but i am 100% sure i'm not washing my face properly either. i just.. eh. money. i need to see if there is a cheaper option. let us know if it gets rid of the pimples that pop up in the same spot, i have the same problem (though they are mostly hormonal i think). oh my gosh, that sweatshirt! need all the things from that website. that ecard made me laugh out loud. i'm gonna print it and put it on my desk.

  26. May I share the John Pavlovitz quote? VERY powerful!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Girl, I feel you. We have a neighborhood Facebook page which is so dramatic, I can barely participate in the conversations. Wishing you peace and rest this weekend xo Emily @ Martinis & Bikinis

  28. Those excerpts are so good. And so powerful. I work on finding things to say day in and day out, but that's being addressed in tomorrow's post. You'll have to let everyone know if you like the clarisonic. I only use micellar water and a cotton pad at night - I'm definitely washing my face wrong!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Thank you for sharing those words from the Pavlovitz. I haven't heard of him, but will look him up. It's to the point where I really question if saying anything is even beneficial, because how could someone NOT realize how incredibly fucking awful this is? But that's an excellent point- it's not for them.

  30. (i'm so behind on blogs, i suck)

    1. i'm almost 35 and my skin still breaks out like a teenagers -- i bought a clarisonic last year but ultimately what works for me is a skin regimen prescribed by my derm who is amazing
    2. i started ozark last week and am up to ep. 5 -- i'm SUPER into it.
