Thursday Thoughts - Currently

Reading: The Lake of Dead Languages by Carol Goodman. Yesterday was library day and Tuesday is Show Us Your Books. Hi-yah!
Watching: Aside from reruns of the Golden Girls and The Office, nothing, really. I am probably down to about an hour a week of TV.

Requiring: Oxford commas. A local college student contacted me wanting free space here to beef up her portfolio. I said sure...as long as you believe in the Oxford comma. Team Oxford Comma for life.

Needing: To spend as much time outside at lunch as possible when it's sunny. Instant mood improver.
Dining: with my oldest friend last night. Jen and I have been friends for almost 37 years. We suck at keeping dinner dates but every once in a while we get our shit together and whenever we see each other it's like no time has passed. We are being advanced for us and already planning another outing with Kelly.

Avoiding: making eye doctor and dentist appointments. No good reason on the former, fear on the latter.

Following: This series from the LA Times editorial board - one two three punch. Part I: Our Dishonest President, Part II: Why trump Lies; Part III: trump's Authoritarian Vision; Part IV: trump's War on Journalism; Part V Conspiracy Theorist in Chief; and Part VI comes out Friday. The lower case Ts are mine, not theirs. Not capitalizing his name, sorry. I don't even like typing it out.

Participating: in democracy, because it is required. I made calls to my Senators this week on Gorsuch not getting a hearing as long as the POTUS and/or his administration are under investigation by the FBI for collusion and treason; attended a municipal meeting in support of ending gerrymandering on Monday; called and faxed my state rep Brendan Boyle and asked him to support SB22 to end gerrymandering in Pennsylvania and support an independent commission to draw up PA's congressional and state legislative district maps; also asked Boyle to not support SB3, a very chilling anti-abortion bill in the PA House right now. Then I contacted my Senators about Gorsuch plagiarizing because WTF. I also use ResistBot like it's my job.

Finishing: My part of the tax info gathering. Every year I'm all I'm going to do this quarterly next year. Newp.

Reminding you:
Laughing:

Savoring: the fact that I'm peacing out on the week today. Hello, three day weekend.

What's up with you?

  1. I'm so glad to see you're actively calling your Senators. It's so hard to keep from being discouraged by everything happening with this administration. But I think in the end, some good has to come from this. If nothing else, Americans will have been shaken out of their political apathy and realize the importance of our electoral process!

(Sorry, I totally commented on the one Debbie downer thing about your post. Lol)

  2. I small case the trump , too. Resistance is showing most of us our humane and care about the environment, etc. The whole GOP is selfish. Those flowers are gorgeous. Happy today is your Friday. Goddess speed. Love. Your. Momma.

  4. Enjoy your 3-day weekend!

I schedule my future dentist appointment before I leave the current one. Otherwise, I'd totally avoid it.

  5. I'm with you on the oxford comma. I need to read the LA Times series. Also have you seen ResistBot? It's a thing you can text and it will fax letters to your senators and representative. If you have a mid-train thought, you might find it useful.

  6. Yeah.... taxes... shoot. Everything is gathered, I'm pretty sure of that at least?
I need the Oxford comma in my life. Sadly, it's a huge no no in legal writing. It pains me every single time I have to leave it out :( Sometimes, I'll restructure my sentences just so it's not an issue.

  7. Jealous of your three day weekend!!! Yay for meeting up with old friends, always good for the soul. I need to make both an eye and dentist appointment and have fear for both and put them off. I need to get on that shit. And taxes. Ugh. We keep putting those off because we have owed the last two years and it looks like we are going to again this year too. Really pisses me off because we both get the most taken out of our paychecks as possible, own a house, now have a kid...and we still cant catch a damn break.

  8. I feel like I need a three day weekend... I didn't even realize today was Thursday. I didn't know what day it was...
I love the Oxford comma. I also love cracking the windows and letting in the spring air. But deep down I hate spring. Lylee and I could do without the storms... ugh.

  9. So proud of all of your hard work to resist. If anything this is making people organized and more engaged and that is the only silver lining I have yet to find. Thank you for linking that LA times series I will be off to read that now. I am down to pretty much no TV myself. I was so scared to get rid of cable and now I have no idea how I had the time to watch all that TV I used to watch! Enjoy your 3 day weekend!

I love that you have a friendship for 37 years--that's awesome! I'm coming up on 20 something with a good friend of mine...love when friendships last through all the growing periods of life!

  13. The LA Times series is phenomenal. I cannot write/type his name either, especially with President in front of it. I have actually yipped in stores when I see his face on magazine covers. They need to warn us before they scare us like that! And yay for 3 day weekends!

  15. Did you edit that top photo to include "Except assholes"? Am I the only one seeing this?! I'm avoiding the same for the same reasons haha. It's so awesome that you've maintained such a long friendship, even if you don't get to hang out often. LOL @ that e-card. Enjoy your 3 day weekend!

  18. It's the best when you can catch up with an old friend every once in a while, but still feel like no time has passed. I haven't heard of that book, but I like the cover and I'm intrigued by the title. Enjoy your three day weekend!

  20. My brain is on fire with this administration and Congress.

You'll appreciate this: Erica's gym's admin created a flier with a rogue, improper, unnecessary apostrophe. I not only told them but made them change it. #stopapostropheabuse

  21. The Golden Girls have always been a favorite of mine! I never watch TV other than some recorded shows so what channel is it on these days? The oxford comma always gets me because that's the punctuation I learned but I've had a "boss" tell me it's wrong so WTF!

  22. I read Lake of Dead Languages ages ago and remember liking it. I've read a few of Goodman's books. I also am not a fan of Oxford commas. I KNOW!

  23. I have a dentist appointment next Wednesday and I've already picked up the phone twice to call and cancel it. I've talked myself out of it both times but Wednesday is a long way away and anything could happen. I hate the dentist.

  24. Totally on board with the Oxford comma. Needing a sunny day mood improver.

  30. hope you enjoyed your 3 day weekend! i love catching up with friends and it feels like no time has passed. that's the best. so the oxford comma thing. i think i finally understand it, and i don't know why i'd never heard of until a couple of years ago. maybe it's not a thing at home? i don't know. it's the same language so you'd think it would be, but whatever. there's also a chance it is a thing and i was just stupid. i know i don't use it though so now i feel foolish lol.
i don't like writing out his name or capitalising it either. i do that with another 'person' i don't like to capitalise the first letter. it's petty of me but makes me feel better. ha. resistbot sounds awesome, gonna start using that.
