Health: I've walked twice this week. I was off my game exercise-wise last year unless I was at the shore. We are much more active there. I need to be active no matter where I am.
Activism: I have three events on my schedule this month - a Nasty Women art exhibit on First Friday, a Democratic Women's Forum, and the Women's March. If I don't put my money where my mouth is this year I won't be able to live with myself.
Travel: I booked airfare to and from Puerto Rico for our cruise and hotel for two nights before to spend some time in San Juan and paid the balance on the cruise off. Hallelujah and amen, vacation looms in the distance.
Technology: After three resets, one as new, since December 7, Apple finally replaced the shit ass crapper battery on my phone. Technology is awesome but also a pain in the ass. If you have a 6S and the battery is fucked or the phone keeps shutting off, be persistent. They'll replace it.
Christmas: MFD W. Griswold put the last pieces of the house back to normal Tuesday. I absolutely love when Christmas is cleaned up. If you like the soft glow of the lights, put them on a ficus and relax, enjoy. Have you ever seen Moving Violations? Let me know if you know why I'm asking here.
House: In other house news, new shower curtain, and getting rid of shit. Getting rid of shit is the theme for the first quarter of this year.
Books: My first book of the year is Americanah. It's over 500 pages, as was one of my last books of the year (Born to Run). These 500+ pagers are killing me. The first edition of Show Us Your Books 2017 is already coming up this Tuesday. Say what now? That was fast. Here's to another year of awesome reads.
Birthday: My father-in-law's, today. Happy birthday Mr.!
Reminder:
What's new with you?
I love the new year too. I think last week of December is my ramp up, actually. Because Christmas is a very quiet occasion in our house, it's relaxing.
ReplyDeleteThose resorts look nice! When do you leave?
YAY for getting rid of old hangers! Was that bag 1?
Ahhh I have barely read any books since the last SUYB link up (thank you Christmas holidays with young children ;)). Still looking forward to it though!! Love the new shower curtain. January and February are always months of "getting rid of stuff" for me, too! I have 5 bags lined up so far. That vacation sounds amaaaaazing!
ReplyDeleteColds and coughs for my little beauty queen. Healing lights to all , especially the little ones. They don't know what to make of this! Reprogramming everyone's cells to perfection! Hand washing a trillion times a day. Can we fast forward to April? Not as many germs. No icy or snowy roads. I'm in the wrong climate. May all be healthy and happy and safe and sound all the way around. Love. Your. Momma.
ReplyDeleteI'm doing a local Women's March. Have you seen the Nasty Women tee-shirt?
ReplyDeleteoh! how exciting for your vacation all booked and cruise paid off. love the new shower curtain. i feel the need to get rid of stuff this month but all our crap is in boxes and i don't feel the need that strongly, because i can't be bothered going through all the crap lol. if KC goes somewhere for a day, i might, because i'll have the place to myself and can make a mess and chuck things out without someone saying they want to keep it even though it hasn't been used in like a year. my first book of the year was dark matter, so i could finally listen to your podcast episode on it - not that you spoiled anything, i just like to know about the book before i listen. good for you for doing all the stuff - the nasty women art exhibit sounds interesting. i need to see if there is anything like that in KY. money where my mouth is and all that.
ReplyDeleteYahoo for vacation being booked and paid off! In January I always feel the need to get rid of stuff. Actually, it seems like it happens quarterly for me.

I really love that you "put your money where your mouth is" so to speak, I figure that if you're not willing to actually do something to support a cause or look for a solution you're really not that invested it in. I read Americanah and wanted to love it but it was just so long that I ended up missing some of the story because I just wanted it to be over.
ReplyDeleteVery jealous that you not only have a vacation on the calendar but also have it paid off already. Sounds like an awesome trip!
ReplyDeleteYay for that vacation being booked and paid for! If you need any Puerto Rico recommendations I have them!! Loved our time there!
ReplyDeleteyes to booking vacations already in 2017! it's always good to look forward to something as soon as the year starts.
ReplyDeleteAah, I definitely need to be more active this year as well. Thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteI'm currently in vacation planning mode but everything is on hold until we know if Erica's squad makes it to their national competition in Florida. If they do, no big vacation for us this year except our Toronto/Niagara Falls trip. Still trying to figure out what to do for our 40ths. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could attend the Women's March. But, again, cheerleading. It holds my life hostage.
I have seen Moving Violations but I'm very confused why you're asking.
I thought I'd come into January ON FIRE...but I'm slowly easing into it & the healthy changes. I just cant get going. UGH.
ReplyDeleteThis week, I am just trying to eat well, and then next week I hope to start working out again. If I try and do it all at once, I won't do it at all...I literally just had a convo the other day with someone about wanting to take a cruise out of PR so I could vacay in PR for a day or two before. Can't wait to hear what you think!
ReplyDeleteYES to THIS: "I feel like a slug trying to climb a flight of steps." That sums up my first week back to work perfectly. Also, I know I just got back from Miami but I AM SO JEALOUS OF YOUR UPCOMING TRIP.
ReplyDeleteYay to not being the only one who slowly eases into the New Year. I have truly been a slug this (I thought Wednesday was Tuesday) week and just chilled out. But next week, I've gotta focus. Love seeing all the activism and that quote is spot on. I need to figure out what I'm going to commit to this year too because it matters more than ever.
ReplyDeleteJanuary absolutely IS December's hangover. I hate January!! (Stopping by from the link up!)
ReplyDeleteI know it's not about this, but I would love to bump into you at the Women's March in DC. Thank you for the push that made me book my trip down, too.
ReplyDeleteI tore all my Christmas stuff down the day after. I didn't want to be grinchy, but we got home from spending Christmas night out of town, toting boxes and bags and tons of new things I didn't need to add to the pile, and just couldn't stand the clutter for another second. I have some winter-only decor (a couple snowmen and winter scented candles) that stayed, but every Santa Claus and red bow has been packed away. Joy to the world.
I am in a declutter and purge frame of mind. Too bad I went back to work on Monday, the day after the mood struck me! As I lose weight, I am tossing the clothes that get too big. There's no need to keep them bc all they end up being is a safety net.
ReplyDeletePuerto Rico looks fabulous! I've only been there on a brief cruise port stop, but I made a mental note to return one day and spend more time.
Good for you for getting back in the exercise swing. I know how easy it is to fall in to a less active state.
Did you see this little gem? Oy!

Jesus lord.
DeleteThank goodness they finally replaced the battery in your phone! I was having issues with an iPhone a while ago, and it's so frustrating when it just dies like that!
ReplyDeleteI'm a little sluggish at work, too. I had a good groove going yesterday morning, but now I've lost it, and I just keep looking at Facebook.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely get what you mean about needing the week to ramp back up. Holiday Hangover is a really thing and it's a bitch...
ReplyDeleteI love the new shower curtain!
Huzzah for a vacation on the horizon! I absolutely love Puerto Rico (I'm biased though- I have family there). As for the new year, I was all gung-ho Tues and even yesterday, but today I can't seem to focus. Christmas was cleared out by the 28th, mostly because I'm not a huge fan of the holidays (with the exception of gift giving). Good luck with your purging!
ReplyDeleteI love the feeling of possibilities a new year presents! Puerto Rico, how fun!!!! I love that you have something to look forward too. And high five on the walks!
ReplyDeleteYour house looks great!! I love the vibe you have in there. I would love to go to a Nasty Woman event. I am trying so hard to gear myself up for 1/20.... savoring all that is the Obamas in the meantime.
ReplyDeleteHangover indeed.
ReplyDeleteMy phone (a regular 6) had an issue over the summer and they told me if it did it again, bring it back and they'll give me a new one. It hasn't...yet.
And yeah, if we don't invest ourselves in what we believe in, who will?
Shit. SUYB is Tuesday? That did come around fast.
ReplyDeleteI started walking too. Today is day 4 for me. I gotta start somewhere with getting regularly exercise back in my life.
Exciting about Puerto Rico!! When do you go and what's the cruise covering?? I was doing well on working out.. then I got sick. Been on my back for two days. Ugh.
ReplyDeleteI'm all about getting rid of stuff too. I went through my office yesterday and got rid of three bags of crap. Good riddance.
ReplyDeleteDecember's hangover. That could not be more accurate.
ReplyDeleteI love all the activism things you have coming up! That's great. :) I feel like I haven't read that much in the past month - or maybe I just haven't reviewed them yet. *shrug* I need to put together my Show Us Your Books post still and check it out. Yay for all your vacation things being paid off and ready to go!
ReplyDelete-lauren
We just cleared out the Christmas clutter this morning and I'm enjoying the house being back to normal. You know I always get excited about travel planning. So you cruise leave from PR? Can't wait to hear the details...K goes to PR for work sometimes so I'm hopping to tag along at some point.
ReplyDeleteI spent 1/1 in the ER, so I've decided that the first week of the new year just plain doesn't count.
ReplyDeleteNasty Woman art exhibit sounds awesome!
And I really liked Americanah. I can't remember if I ever got around to reviewing it last year (LOL prob not), but it's the rare kind of book that I loved not because the story or the characters were so great, but just because the writing was so good.
