TWTW - the one with the tubing

Can we get excited about groceries for a minute? I know it's a lot to ask, but Friday two grocery miracles happened. 1) Amazon Fresh missed their 4-7 a.m. delivery window and fully refunded me $109, gave me an additional $25 credit, and told me to keep and use any groceries that were not affected by heat if they did happen to arrive (they attempted to cancel the order). Guess what? The groceries arrived and most were fine on the front step. It's like they paid me for their fuckup. 2) I found cucumber mint water at Target after work and bought all five cases like the psycho I am because I haven't been able to find this shit for a year and it's the only sparkling water I like. If you see it, pick some up...unless you live near me then mine mine mine. Also shown: $5 flowers of the week - I love carnations even though they're the plebe of flowers - painted nails (OPI Cajun Shrimp), and sun dappled Gussie.
Saturday morning MFD dropped me at the Langhorne Coffee House while he showed properties. I had a scrapple, egg, and cheese on a long roll and read my book. I also stared at the building across (est 1738) thinking about all the people that have been in there over the past 278 years, people watched, and sweat my ass off as there was no seating inside.
We were finally on our way to go tubing around 11:45. The drive there was nice until we were basically off roading due to a River Road detour. When we got there, I wanted to leave. LOL. It was disorganized and so fucking hot, everything was a million dollars, everyone was moving slowly, and a poor man fell and MFD had to help him up. Finally on the old ass school bus there was a breeze and my mood improved. It was a long ass float down the river. I think it took us about 3.5 hours with a stop at the world famous Hot Dog Man in the middle of it. I could have shaved two hours off and been totally fine with that. MFD had to pull us every once in a while to get us moving and he also MacGuyver'd his shoe laces in the middle of the river, asking a passerby in a kayak for a knife. Who asks strangers for knives? LOL for days. I'm glad we made it happen as it's on my 40 before 40 and if it didn't happen this weekend, it wasn't happening before 40. Local friends, we went with Delaware River Tubing out of Point Pleasant. Buy your tickets online so you don't have to stand in the longest line ever there, and make sure they give you a wristband for the Hot Dog Man event or that will be the most expensive hotdog you've ever eaten. Video here.
After a quick change in the grossly hot changing rooms, we tore ass out of there and refueled with water at Wawa, then stopped at the Pineville Tavern for dinner on a whim. This was my second time and MFD's first. The jalapeno fried oysters were delicious as was my ribeye - don't be alarmed, I just like to poke holes in it and add some butter to the top before eating. Heart attack city, but it's a rare treat.
We ended up bringing a good bit of our meals home because our intended destination before that little side track jobby was O Wow Cow in Carousel Village. And man, oh wow. My eyes were bigger than my stomach and I only ate half of this glorious sundae. I had the honey lavender ice cream topped with caramel and mixed berries with homemade whipped cream. It was amazing. Cash only locals! Try it, all ingredients are locally sourced and organic. You can buy pints and quarts too. It's connected to Organnons Natural Market so I picked up some mozzarella and tomatoes and we smelled soaps trying to gross each other out with the worst smelling one. Hashtag grownups.
Tubing wears you the F out. I was in bed before 10 p.m. and slept a solid nine. Sunday I had an 80 minute massage with a foot scrub treatment and half hour cold stone facial at 9. It was glorious. I carbed up at Panera after as is my custom. Sunday at home was a pretty slow day. I culled my nail polish collection (these got tossed), did a face mask and some other personal care-ish grooming, lounged on clean sheets and read, and did some food prep. I was in bed before 8:30 to read. Glory be.
Weekly food prep:
Breakfast is egg muffins with mushrooms, tomatoes, and cheese; lunches are baked chicken breasts and veggies (not pictured, not needed until Tuesday); dinners are a combination of caprese, roasted veggies I needed to use up, pork tenderloin, and salmon. I also made two dozen power breakfast muffins to freeze for snacks. Other snacks are cucumbers and strawberries as well as Nature's Valley roasted nut crunch bars. I also made a golden turmeric paste for dogs and humans. More to come on that - Geege was prescribed rimadyl for his arthritis and we had to take him off after five days - he was a totally different dog, not himself. AEB pointed me to the golden turmeric paste so I'm going to give that a try.

Sliding on into Monday, then. But first tell me about your weekend!

  2. High five to Amazon for that customer service! Walmart recently fucked up my cat food order (that's possibly the saddest phrase I've ever written) and offered me a whole 5% $ back for the week delay. Wow, thaaaaaaanks, multi-bazillion dollar company for the three bucks.

I'm used to getting looked at like a psycho at Target b/c only the one that's an hour away from me carries the really good little microwaveable quinoa bags that I could eat forever, so I usually buy like a dozen at a time, or however many they have if it's less. They look at me like they never played Oregon Trail and bought 200 lbs of flour at the trading post before setting off. (Damn millenials.)

Pro tip for the next round of nail polish decluttering - if you have a local women's sheter, they <3 that kind of thing. Most women escaping scary situations end up there with only what they're wearing, so something like nail polish can really help since it's not the kind of thing you grab on your way out the door, but getting to paint nails can be a nice de-stresser that makes life feel a little more normal. (And it's not like used makeup where you worry about funkiness.)

  3. I've been taking turmeric ! That tubing sounds like s nightmare to me. We love OWowCow ! We went to the Pineville around 4 years ago and were disappointed. Maybe we will try it again. Finally a decent morning outside by the pool. 74 ! Have a happy week ! Love. Your. Momma.

  4. Tubing looks like so much fun!

Amazon is amazing. I've had them refund me twice for screwups the post office caused (I don't understand how the post office...the foundation of this country...can still be so unreliable).

  5. I know this is probably a dumb question - but have you tried glucosamine & chondroitin for Geege? (or for all your dogs) Hewitt takes a canine g&c supplement and we've seen really good results from it.

Also, brava for tubing! I don't know if I have the guts or the intestinal fortitude. The whole concept has me riddled with anxiety because it's a combination of things I hate... moving water, being vulnerable...being stuck in one place for a long time...exposure...and sunshine. :)

  6. Tubing sounds great! I went kayaking for the first time this weekend. Never tried tubing..may have to try that too!

  7. It isn't even 9 (my time) and I'm dying for ice cream now. Your sundae sounds divine, as do the flavors, because of course I had to check it out.

So a guy just hands you a hot dog in the middle of the river? Is that sanitary? Everything you ate sounds amazing, minus the scrapple. I still can't get on board.

  8. That building looks amazing! And tubing! so much fun. You threw out more nail polish than I actually own! Dorrie @ Rt 1 US 1

  9. poking holes in your steak and adding butter is brilliant. i have steak like once or twice a year so i am definitely trying it next time. i'm all about heart attacks on a plate once in a while ;)
yay for amazon paying you for their screw up - that's awesome.
that sundae though! omg. looks amazing.
tubing looked fun, but also fun as in i'll stand on the edge and watch everyone else do it. haha.
my weekend was fairly relaxed - didn't do anything saturday, sunday i ran and mowed the lawn. other than that i read as many books as humanly possible. haha!

  10. Wow! What a super fun and packed weekend! So glad that you were able to cross off another item on your 40 before 40 list :) Your dinner and dessert look good--I've definitely had bigger eyes than my stomach before too, but it's always SO good!!

  11. Love love love tubing! And how awesome of Amazon Fresh! I really need to get on this grocery delivery train, it's such a hassle and time suck every week to head to the store :-P

    ReplyDelete
  12. I've never gone tubing.. I need to add that on my to do list.
TOTAL thumbs up for the grocery screw up!!! Those little breaks in life make a day so much better!

  13. That's so awesome that you basically got paid for your groceries!! I haven't been tubing in so long. Is the cucumber mint a sweeter sparkling water? I'll have to find it & give it a try.

  14. Sorry I just can't get past the honey lavender ice cream sundae...that sounds like MAGIC.

  15. I've never used Amazon Fresh but I think now it's time I check it out!

  16. Reading that made me exhausted. And hungry. Damn. Nothing makes me more pissy than being hot and in crowds and in line. Haha. (I'm a real joy at theme parks...) I'm glad you at least got to check tubing off your list... and eat what looks like absolutely delicious foods!
(I love that you ate scrapple. We call it krepples but so few people know what that is! Haha!)

  17. Hooray, Amazon! We used to go tubing in college, but I probably haven't gone since then. Also, Cajun Shrimp is one of my go-to summer colors!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Amazon does have some pretty damn good customer service skills, that is a total win!!! I basically want all the things you ate, but especially that ice cream. And I would totally skip the tubing and just go straight for the hot dog. lol! I am not an outdoorsy person. Especially not in the hot hot sun. Nope.

  19. I'm still trying to figure out if I'd be a fan of tubing. It seems like 3-6 hours (based on where you are) that I would never get back.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Amazon rocks pretty hard for sure - glad it all worked out!!! Cajun Shrimp is one of my favorite OPI colors - love it! I would have been wondering the same thing about the old building - I truly do wish walls could talk in historical places - so fascinating. I love tubing but those lines and such do sound like a cluster - and 3.5 hours is a long time to be floating in the heat. Your Sunday pampering sounds amazing . . . good for you!

  21. Ummmmm I'd geek out for free groceries, for sure! I have yet to find a sparkling water I like...hmmm.

  22. That's a bummer that you didn't love tubing, but it's totally one of my favorite things to do when we're in the Hill Country! It's just so peaceful and the river is ice cold, even in the middle of the summer! That's awesome about Amazon giving you a full refund, and Cajun Shrimp is totally my favorite OPI nail color!

  23. Carnations have always been my favorite flower over any of the expensive ones...I just love them. Sounds like Amazon redeemed themselves with the mess up. win win for you. The cucumber mint water sounds delish, Definitely picking up some next time I'm at Target.

  25. tubing is tiring as hell....sorry that you didn't love it that time....if it were more organized, you would have.

so awesome that they paid you for their screw up!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Amazon is the best! As a non-US person I can totally attest to that!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I LOVE Amazon. I still haven't used their grocery service, but now I really want to. Also, is the cold stone massage exactly what it sounds like? I could use that with this damn weather.

    ReplyDelete
  28. When I was a kid, we'd go tubing for family vacations. When I was a twenty-something drunken fool, we'd go tubing and, well, act like fools. I haven't been since. I have fond memories, but I feel like those memories are tainted by youth and debauchery.

    ReplyDelete
  29. All the food looks soo good! It's been ages since I've been tubing but I do remember it being a blast!

  30. 1. TURMERIC RULES!!!!!!!!! I take an unholy amount and have stopped all anti-inflammatory drugs. Even convinced Mark to try it (it took forever but he finally did) and he's now totally on board. I hope black pepper is involved in yours... makes it work better.

    2. Carnations may be plebish but they are pretty and last FOREVER!

    3. How did people survive before Amazon?

and 4. Butter on steak is always the way to go.

    That's all.

  31. I'm officially jealous of your self care. I was going to go find you some of that fizzy water and send it to you because you entertain my begging for pictures of pugs... but now you'll have to fight some other crazy for your fizzy water.

And is that hot dog as basic as it looks? For $$? Good. Bye.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I am so jealous of your massage and getting your nails done and all of the self-care things that you did this weekend! I'm sitting here on my couch with my back thrown out from who knows what thinking I really should take better care of myself. I love the OPI nail color again this week!

Tubing is just not something that I am interested in doing. It's always so hot when everyone wants to go and I just do not do well in the heat.

The ice cream sounds super amazing. And also I have been seeing that cucumber water around here but have yet to try it I guess I'm going to have to sample some now!
