Thursday Thoughts - In Short Order

1. July was here and gone in the blink of an eye.

2. Watching: Stranger Things on Netflix. Winona Ryder and Matthew Modine, I've missed you.
3. Fresh air. Tuesday and Wednesday we had the windows open in our house. It is so glorious to sleep with the windows open on a temperate night in the summer.

4. I tried the DD cold brew iced coffee yesterday. I'll stick with the regular iced.

5. Philly's looking fine this week. I love the building on 16th that is painted entirely with dandelions and grass right now. Of course I was taking a million photos of it, really impossible to get the whole thing from the same side of the street, and the people were probably watching on the cameras like look at this amateur.

6. Today on The Armchair Librarians, Jana & I discuss my idol, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, subject of Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
7. At the risk of sounding like a senior, I don't get the appeal of the boomerang function on Instagram. So I see you moving the same way over and over like a deranged robot? Okay. Next.

8. Books: Show Us Your Books is Tuesday. Currently reading: Cruel Beautiful World.
9. Advice. Along these lines, check out this post from Chelsea at The Girl Who Loved to Write.

10. E-card of the week:

Made it through a Thursday Thoughts without politics. Send rewards.

  1. I'm ashamed to link up for Show Us Your Books on Tuesday... Mostly because I'm judging myself for the sheer number of dumb YA books I've read in the last few weeks to distract myself from the real world.... lol.

  2. Love RBG. Love the ecards. I will be stealing and reposting on the Instagram. Lovely day today. Just superb. Grateful
Thought for my day- no weird critters have been in the skimmer this summer during my daily cleaning. It's the little things.
Happy Friday Eve! Love. Your. Momma.

  3. So Chris and I watched a little bit of the first episode of Stranger Things and um I got freaked out just a little and Chris was like want to watch something else...YES!!! I'm chicken shit and accept it. I am so ready for the link up! I read a decent amount for me this month :) DD has the best iced coffee on the planet, why fix what isn't broke I say. I doubt I will ever even try their cold brew.

  4. I must ask, why is the building painted like a lawn? I get the impression that it's temporary. Is it an art gallery or promoting something specific? I agree with you, it's cool looking from what I can see. I'm just curious to know more.

Love the praying/exorcism e-card. I have some folks that I should send that to...especially with work starting back for me next week! Some of my coworkers may not appreciate it, but I'd have a great laugh!

  5. matthew modine! wow, i haven't seen him in years.

i heard that Stranger things was a bit scary so no thanks to that. my husband is watching so i make him watch with his headphones on so i don't have to listen (and get scared because i'm a huge pussy when it comes to scary things)

  6. love that building painted!! Nope, Stranger Things = scary = big fat nope, but glad you're enjoying. I do like DD regular iced, but I may have to try out their Cold Brew.

  7. Stranger Things is on my list. Loved today's podcast. There's only one person ahead of me for the book so I'm excited. I have requested to accompany my school to the Supreme Court in June so I can breathe the same air as RBG again and actually appreciate it this time, but I think someone else will get to go and I'm already bummed.

  8. Matthew Modine!!!!!!!!!! ... with white HAIR!!! OMG!!!!!!!
I'm totally singing Madonna's Crazy for you now! It is Throwback Thursday afterall.

  9. So funny - I was so curious to see if you'd tried the cold brew, and what you thought. Probably won't try it now.

  10. Call me crazy, but I don't see the difference between regular and cold brew. Maybe the cream and sweetener throw it off. I can't find iced coffee ala Dunks or Starbucks here in the villages...enjoy one for me. I'll be sipping cortados and cafe con leches. Cheers!

  11. I like the cookie dough iced coffee from DD when they have it, but that's it. It's pretty easy for a coffee place to ruin iced coffee. (Which is dumb.) Chelsea's been dealing out advice like a pro this week/month! Dang!

  12. I didn't like the cold brew either.

I love our episode this week. LOVE. I think it's my favorite.

  13. I started watching Stranger Things with Ryan and it's so good! I was hesitant because I thought it would be all thriller/gory, but it's really not. Love me some sci-fi! I also just finished Notorious RBG a little while ago and it was an awesome read (listen?). I didn't know that much about her but now that I do - just wow. What an inspiring lady!

  14. Here! Here! What the hell even happened to July? Or the rest of the year in fact!

I've had many open window days in the last month and it's been glorious, that, and my washing dries really quick too! It's a good time to do some adulting right now!

Oh that's an amazing building, sunflowers are great! I've not seen too many this year, so I'll take a photo of them any day.

It's not very often that a quote resonates with me, or makes me think, but I love that one about the person you should be. Thank you for sharing that! That's made my day reading that little nugget of advice.

  15. Cheers to no politics! And as time is slipping slipping slipping ♫ into the future ♪, I spend most of it watching my house sparrows...

  16. Matthew Modine... swoon! Now there is a blast from the past! I love that piece of advice, words to live by.

  17. Gah - lucky you with the cooler weather. It's sweltering here in the south!!! And the building with the dandelions is fabulous!!!

  18. I have to watch stranger things. I've heard nothing but good things! and man it is SO hot here. help me.

  19. Matthew Modine is so good in that show, and I really liked Winona in it too. Spell check wants to correct that to wino, which makes me laugh.
i didn't actually know anything about this boomerang function hahahaha so who is a senior citizen now? i can't handle any more social media doodads, i just don't want to.
loved that post from chelsea, really made me think. i am super sensitive and always think people are hurting my feelings on purpose, and it made me realise i probably do it to people more than i think i do.
i shall talk about politics because you didn't today haha: an (idiotic) coworker of mine said he is voting for trump purely because he hates hilary. i try not to talk politics with people or idiots in general, but i asked why and he said because a vagina can't run a country. this coming from a man who can't even scan a document to himself..

  20. I'm so excited for Show Us Your Books Tuesday! I just need to write my post this weekend! Everybody keeps on talking about Stranger Things! My husband and I need to try and check it out.

  21. I've been loving the weather here this week too. Finally no need for AC at night, just a cool breeze from outside. Ahh!

Loved reading Notorious RBG; she's a true gem. Can't wait to hear your and Jana's thoughts on the book.

Cosign #7. Why? I feel the same way about most snapchat filters and all the face swaps ever.

  22. I have heard great things about Stranger Things but I don't have Netflix and I haven't really felt the need for it until now. I may have to do a few trial so I can watch it because I've missed Winona Ryder too. Love the e-card. I am doing a lot of praying these days and I'm guessing you know why. LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I've gotta read that RBG book. July was a bad reading month for me, and I'm not sure why. L just started watching Stranger Things and said he enjoyed it, so maybe I'll give it a try.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I really need to read RBG's book. Alyssa gave me a synopsis a few weeks ago and I began to admire her even more impressed with her than I already do.

  25. The only boomerang posts I like are the ones of people jumping into a pool. For some reason, that fascinates me. The rest, no thanks. Good to know about the cold brew at DD.

  26. We're having two cooler days with rain here. I don't expect it to last.

What's the difference in taste between the coffees?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Stranger Things was brilliant. Can't wait for season two. I love the dandelions on the building. So beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I've heard so many good things about Stranger Things but have yet to watch !

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm so conflicted about Stranger Things! It's not really in my wheelhouse of things I like to watch generally but people are LOVING it. Hmm.

Haha, I actually like Boomerang pics on IG IF they're done well. I guess it can kind of make a cute GIF of sorts. I don't overuse it though and honestly can picture myself deleting that app if I ever find myself needing more iPhone storage :-/ (which is often)

  30. I just saw the cold brew sign today and was thinking about it. Then I realized that I don't really care too much about my coffee since I dump creamer in it. Also, I'm super intrigued by Stranger Things. I added it to the list and once I'm back in TV mode instead of apartment hunting mode - I'll dive in.
