Creature comforts

I'm grateful for the big, important things I'm lucky enough to have - my health, framily, job, education, house, access to clean water, the utilities that make my home bright/warm in winter/cool in summer. I also love to wax poetic about those intangibles that sweeten the pot of life - the first tinge of autumn in the air, watching snow fall, the scent of summer rain on hot blacktop, being inside under a warm blanket on a cold day, waking up really well rested, feeling my feet sinking into the sand when the ocean comes up over them, sensing the heat of the sun on my skin in early spring, accidentally overhearing someone say something nice about you...

But on a lower, more spoiled and materialistic plane, there's the stuff. Which is, of course, all just stuff. I could sit here and act like I don't like stuff and like I'm above stuff, but I'm not. While I could certainly do without my creature comforts, I won't deny that they please me and I don't feel guilty about wanting them, liking them, and enjoying them.

Some of those things are...(no affiliate links)

my creature comforts...... books, especially used ones. mass market paperbacks feel so fabulous in my hands as well, love them. big ol mugs (why are all the mugs that come with dinner sets SO small?).. i haven't tried those reef flip flops, but i am insanely illogically loyal to my havaianas.

  7. Love this post. Sometimes these little things can be what takes a day up a notch or takes my stress/anxiety down a notch. I'd have nail polish and comfy pants (though mine are yoga pants of course) on my list too, plus my journal and a good pen, coffee and big mugs, coconut body lotion, all the lip balm (I have countless), Nike Frees for my comfy shoes, and good smelly candles.

  8. hahaha go the fuck to sleep tea. I need that. I love the look of those gap pants, but gap has just never fit my body well. But at that price, it could be worth a try! I cannot find comfy lounge pants to save my life, so I'm willing to try anything.

  10. I love some stuff as well!!! I almost exclusively use Method's cleaning products. I just love them so much and they have some great scents! I need some wake the fuck up tea these days, darn cutting back caffeine!!! And I am waiting very desperately for that first rush of crisp fall air. HURRY! I might melt!

  11. I appreciate the no affiliate links lol. Checking out the Gap pants.

I suppose my creature comforts are in the form of opportunities: the chance to sit and read things online while sipping coffee...the ability to watch my favorite tv shows whenever I want, thanks to technology...skyping during deployment. Things like that. I like the comfort of being able to do these things.

  18. Reefs are the best...so comfy. And Yogi Lavender Honey tea is one of my favorites. One of your commenters, Kelly, is spot on with new pajamas...especially after you've had a bubble bath and just changed the sheets...bliss. Greetings from Spain! Hope you're having a great summer!

  24. I've always loved Reefs for beach footwear. Surprising I haven't owned a pair since college although most of K's flip flops are Reef. The beach goat milk and honey lotion sounds divine and I need to try out Yogi stress relief tea.

I have a fugly tiger print blanket that was given to me for a birthday years ago, but it is so freaking comfortable, I can't get rid of it.

  27. Meant to comment on this yesterday but...sigh. Life. I wrote that post about happiness recently (listing some of the things that make me happy - some material things, some people, some randoms) but here are some more tangibles: iced coffee, MAC lipsticks, a clean apartment, my blog, photography, the beach, costume jewelry (i should own stock at Bauble Bar). We all need to make sure we have an abundance of our favorite things on deck - life is frickin hard - this helps :)
