Thursday Thoughts

1. I think this is the universal sign for fuck everyone who enters this bathroom after me. Yes, this photo is from my own bathroom.

2. Since I've opened up with a roll of toilet paper rakishly left off the MFing holder, I might as well follow up with gross dog tales. Gus had a significantly awful butt incident Monday, went to the vet Tuesday, got checked out and tested for parasites...nothing. We think it's colitis. The vet says nothing. I hate when my dogs are not well, I really want them to be able to talk and tell me how to help them. I spent all of Tuesday and Wednesday nights cleaning up dog poop all over. MFD had the day shifts, which are infinitely longer. It's a veritable poopacalypse in our house. Geege remains my best nicest boy and Mae seems to be faring well on wet food only. She only pukes when I give her dry food. This concludes the report on my dogs' bodily functions that you did not ask for. Bye.
3. In June, I meant to participate in Dani & Erin's Challenge to read all of my books - books I've had sitting on shelves, paperbacks shoved into crevices. Instead I rode the Library Gravy Train to shiny new books. I did manage to clear out my Netgalley account and read the three books I had from them, as well as three that had been sitting on my kindle for what felt like a decade. I consider myself mildly successful in reading my e-books, although I do still have some long lingerers on the kindle. I didn't manage to read one single physical book I already owned. So, in addition to the shit ton of books still on my kindle, as well as the $2 paperbacks I couldn't resist at Barnes & Noble to leave in the apartment at the shore, I still have the stack of books on the bookshelf at home that I set aside specifically for this challenge, crying read me as if they're marooned on the Island of Misfit Toys. Maybe next month? Probably not. I can't quit the library.

4. Of course I partook in Amazon Prime Day on Tuesday. I got MFD a hammock he wanted ($30 off), a Kindle Paperwhite for moi ($20 off), and two sets of king size sheets, 50% off each. And this time I used Amex points so it was all freeee. Free is for me. The best way for me to shop Prime Day is to look on my various wish lists and buy what's on sale so I'm not buying random crap I don't need.

5. It is absolutely crazy to me that I can order groceries at 11 p.m. and have them delivered to my doorstep before 7 a.m. No, I did not order just one item. But I forgot something so I added it to my order immediately. The rest of the order was placed at 10:56 p.m.
6. I can't be on all the time. You can't be on all the time. We'll still be okay.

7. The news outlets are reporting that the SEPTA regional rail situation is improved this week. I have seen no change, in fact, it's more crowded. The mornings still continue to be a total clusterfuck (pic below from Tuesday morning) and the evenings continue to be fairly fine on my line. My stepmom's line is the reverse. I also think it's bullshit that I can only get a fare credit towards additional purchases. My train allowance is set by the quarter and I can't change it in between.

8. As of yesterday afternoon, all hotels/vrbos/whathaveyou have been booked for our Ireland/Paris trip this fall. This is another bouncing around trip hotel-wise.

9.  I just blocked out my calendar to spend every September weekend at the shore. I love it down there always, I just love it more in the off-season.

10. E-card of the week. This made me LOL as I used the facebook unfollow button a lot this week:
For the second week in a row, today is my Friday.

  1. #1 had me laughing because I just returned from the public restroom that the retail employees of a certain part of my building use. I walked in (it is one large cubicle, like a disabled toilet), and the seat was closed. I hesitated. I don't like when the public toilet seat is closed. When I lift the lid, you never know what condition I'm going to find it in. Most of the time, it is a foul condition. Fortunately, this time, it was fine.
    #7 sucks donkey balls.
You did alright for the challenge. You cleared some, right? The "Island of Misfit Toys" caused me to cackle.

  2. Healing lights and love to the pups! I finally stayed up until almost midnight reading a book. Anderson Cooper & his mom- The Rainbow Comes & Goes. September weekends in OCNJ-dream come true. Travel- I travel vicariously through you and the Internet. So many beautiful pictures. Love the Elm Street ecard. Goddess speed on the rails. Crowded, late, and heat indexes of 100. Jmj. Good to be off tomorrow ! Stay cool , my jewel. Love. Your. Momma.

  3. So true about the toilet paper and that's very exciting you have your European trip, well hotels all booked up.

  4. Poor pups!! I hope they are on the mend soon. I can't imagine dealing with three (or 2 out of 3) with intestinal/stomach issues. Sigh. Reminds me of that scene from the movie "The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood" when all of Vivi's kids are sick at one time and she literally breaks and goes crazy!

  5. ahhh the joys of being a dog owner. Hawkeye threw up last night and I bolted out of bed to move her outside before anything happened and John was all 'how did you know?!' You just DO, my friend. He'll get there.
Look at you being all productive for your trip! How many places are you staying in?

  6. That hammock looks so cozy!! And yay for a new Kindle too :) I'm like you, I find it hard to quit the library! Free books!!!

  7. I think September is the best month at the shore. It's not like the weather changes Sept. 1st and is like "Oh it's fall now, time to get cold!" The only bummer by me is that a lot of the stores/restaurants close Labor Day.

  8. LOLOL at the meme. October and April are my favorite beach months in the South.

  9. Hooray for accommodations! I got excited when we booked our Lisbon accommodations. I love that bloom quote; so true and so liberating.

  11. I hope your pups get to feeling better soon! The toilet paper nonsense is a constant battle in my house too! My husband never puts it back and if he does he is absolutely wrong and I'm just at the point like forget it you get no toilet paper. Of course that doesn't work either so I'm stuck fixing it anyhow.

  12. Ugh, dog problems. I hope things start to look up.

I didn't participate in Prime day, but I might ask for a Kindle Fire for Christmas.

Glad you have a long weekend ahead!

  13. The toilet paper: why, just why? It's not hard to put it on the roll.

That hammock looks so awesome! I want one.

Congrats on getting all of the hotels booked. I'm already excited to read about your trip.

  14. Ireland sounds wonderful... I would love to go back one day, preferably with my husband instead of with teenagers in tow. LOL! Your e-card could've been my mantra last week in my FB experiences, too. I hid several folks and put myself on a FB diet. With the state of society and all the crap that has gone down lately AND with it being an election year...it's just bringing out the worst in people and they are blessing their FB friends with their ignorance/hatefulness/hypocrisy!

    Enjoy your Amazon goodies!

  15. hahaha Michael gets SOOO mad about toilet paper placement. sometimes it's comical. love that challenge idea about reading all your books!

  16. off-season travelling is the best; we always book our big vacations in september because fuck crowds and hiked-up prices! your trip to ireland/paris sounds amazing! paris is so beautiful you will never want to leave.

  17. Poor pups! I'm in the same boat with the poop thing . . . some days are fine, others are a disaster. It would be great if someone could invent a machine like in "UP" where we can understand them. I still don't realize that I really can get ANYTHING on Amazon. I really need some sheets too!

  18. I would want to be on the shore when its cooler myself too.
I took advantage of the Prime Day myself. I ALMOST got a Kindle white & now kicking myself for not.
I had 2 puking fur babies the other day. I HATE not knowing what's wrong with them. They're fine now but I was stressing for a day.

  19. Chris cant ever seem to replace the toilet paper after he finishes a roll so at least MFD makes an effort to put a new one out? Though it is pretty damn lazy to not complete the task. I get it. Haha. Poor Geege is like, mother, I am the only one who can keep my shit together around here. Literally. I hope that Gus gets to feeling better! I love that quote!!! That is so true, we cant always be on! Your trip sounds so fabulous and I know I can count on your instagram to provide me with a glimpse in to all the fun. That ecard!!!!!!!! YES!

  20. I totally failed on the not buying books front this past month too! It's just too hard to pass up a good book deal. I managed to not buy a single thing on Amazon Prime day which kind of seems like a fail to me. Although, I didn't really see anything that I had to have, which maybe is a plus in and of itself.

  21. The shore is always better in the off-season. Especially just after Labor Day when the water is warm and the sun is hot but the humidity is falling away. Do you have renters for September weekends?
Ireland and Paris, how wonderful! Oh I'm craving some big travel so badly, but living vicariously through friends' trips will have to do for now. This is one I'll be waiting for with wide-eyed envy.

  22. Oh, that e-card is the best ever.

  23. Blue does that TP shit all the time and it drives me NUTS. You're right there, just put it on the damn holder! Good job on clearing some of those e-books out! I meant to read physical books too, but I had Netgalley archive dates looming. You also found good stuff on Prime Day. I've been holding out on the Kindle because I have a (very old) Nook, but I never use it. Hope Gus gets better soon!!

  24. Poor pups! That's the worst. I'm the same way, I just stand there and cry and say USE YOUR WORDS AND TELL ME WHAT HURTS.

  25. Hope the pups are feeling better!! I love ordering groceries online - best invention! xo, Biana

  26. While reading about the unfortunate dog poop situations, I read one of the sentences as "MFD had the day shits" and thought, wow Steph is really going for it today! Hope the pups feel better soon!

Ireland & Paris!!!!!!!!! You have the best vacations, I swear!

  27. Grr, I tried to buy something for Prime Day & couldn't find a single thing I wanted.

I LOVE that quote about nature/things blooming - perfect for me right now.

Ah, I imagine the shore is PERFECT in September. My beach town usually is, too :)

  28. oh poor dogs :( i hate when my cats are unwell as well, i just want them to tell me exactly what is wrong so i can fix it. i imagine that is how parents feel with a crying baby, right? haha. i read it as MFD has the day shits which made me lol.
good job on reading your netgalley books! i have 18(!!) that i seriously need to clear out, they are driving me bonkers.
congrats on booking all your hotels! i hope you have the best time. i feel like everyone got a hammock on prime day and i purposefully stayed off the internet that day lol.

  29. I won't lie, that hammock is amazing. I bought it off woot a few years ago (only paid $10 more, so at least prime day was actually a deal) and I lurve laying out in it. My guests don't seem to understand that you lay long-ways in it.. and then to sit on it like a chair without spreading it out because they are all special. This includes my family members and Teh German. Weirdos.

  30. ooo, I want a hammock!!! Great call. Sorry about the hindquarter issues for your pup! Poor thing (and you since you presumably had to clean it). Chandler hasn't had diarrhea since we got him (knock.on.mf'ing.wood) so I haven't had to clean anything like that yet besides normal poop pickup. But I'm sure it's a lovely side affect that will reveal itself with age.

  31. YAY FOR SHORE WEEKENDS!!!!!!! I also love that you got your big trip booked. I've heard that dog food can really affect their poop. You might try a probiotic.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Poor Gus - did they do bloodwork? How old is he?

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm not sure I will EVER catch up on Netgalley books. Maybe if I stopped requesting like 298547 at a time? But they all sound good!

    ReplyDelete
  34. LOL at the toilet paper. I feel like that happens more often than you think it would (or should).

Your poor dogs ... I hope they're doing better! :-(

I had a lot of trouble quitting the library last month, but I somehow managed to do it. It became a running joke with Eric and a couple of my friends at work that the people at OPL were going to think that I'd either left the country for an extended period of time or that I was dead. Clearly people think I have a library obsession. Haha.

I'm so excited that you've gotten everything planned for your upcoming trip! :-) Our trip, on the other hand? Not so much. We probably need to get that shit figured out soon.
