Thursday Thoughts: Mother May I?

1. OLE, mofos. I made guacamole (4 avocados, finely diced red onion, 1 tbs salsa, 1 tbs sour cream, juice of one lemon, juice of one lime, salt/pepper/garlic powder/garlic salt to taste) for a work party today and last night was baked queso tacos.

2. In 2015 I started using a Plum Paper planner and it served me very well. I adored it, it was my bible. I bought another one for this year but over the past month have basically stopped using it aside from the calendar function. I'm not one to stick with something that isn't working, especially if it's designed to make me more efficient and is actually making me less so. I'm going back to basics with a purse sized planner that I'll use in conjunction with my Poppin notebooks. I section them off with paper clips so I have one for work, home, shore, and blog - all my stuff all in one place works best for me.

3. What are you reading? I started Miller's Valley by Anna Quindlen last night. Show Us Your Books is on Tuesday.

4. I've shit the bed on the bracelets every weekday in spring goal but I'm loving my new waterproof man's watch with a big ass face. I also wear watches on my dominant hand, I think most wear it on the hand they don't write with? Anyone? Bueller?
5. I went to Target twice last weekend, had to go to the bathroom twice too. Felt safer in the bathrooms than I felt in the parking lots...you know what I would like to address though? Can people not be such gross pigs in public restrooms? Let's clean it up ladies.

6. I can't stop listening to Same as the Sun by Jesse Cole. MFD usually bitches at the songs on my Puttering playlist on Spotify - my Puttering playlist is what I listen to when I'm cooking or doing little hausfrauing projects - and he didn't even utter a peep during this one. He was probably just not listening, but still. I'll take it. He refuses to hear the Cup song at all.

7. I can't even muster a Trump joke at this juncture. I did get a huge kick out of the Ted Cruz is the Zodiac Killer shit. That was a riot. Currently on the fridge:

8. I'm ready to go Office Space on my dryer right now. All loads have to be run through twice.

9. I have spent so much time studying google maps of Ireland this week trying to finalize our trip that it's like I live there.

10. E-card of the week:

  1. I have and wear a "man's" watch too. Watches should have gender neutral options. Just saying.
I know you are a person (like I am) who believes in the privilege to vote. It is a gift. A privilege. Something to not take for granted. That is why I am so disheartened by all the comments I'm seeing on my fb news feed about people saying they don't even want to vote this election.
Hooray for Ireland! I've only been to Dublin. Loved it. And wished I'd seen more.

  2. Skins like your heating element may be out on your dryer. Your smart enough to change it yourself. (I did my own.) what do you mean that you didn't get molested in the Targetvl bathroom?! AND YES... people who trash public bathrooms are on my list. Have you seen Hillary's attack ad? Gold. But a little too late imho.

  4. I love the watch personally doesn't matter that it is a men's!

I feel the same way but about my washing machine.

I want to go to Ireland! I went when I was in high school and it was amazing!

  5. I'm with you on people being disgusting pigs in public restrooms...sometimes I hate even going to the public restroom because people are so gross...even here at work they don't even know how to flush a damn toilet!

  6. Scored the new Anna Quindlan book Miller's Valley from the library by requesting it pre-release. Stayed up till midnight the other night to finish it. I loved it; looking forward to hearing your review, too.

    1. I loved it too Lauren! Tried to email you but I don't have your email!

  7. Always wear my watch on my dominant hand. When people see I'm right handed they tell me I'm wrong. Never realized there were watch wearing rules.

  8. I think that watch is really nice! I'd definitely wear it. My current watch is my Fitbit, which I wear on my dominant wrist for unfortunate rash related reasons. Long story, potentially TMI. Once the rash situation is resolved I was going to move it back to my non-dominant wrist but now I'm kind of used to it.

I don't understand people's behaviour in public bathrooms. I bet you anything their own bathrooms don't look like that. Have some common decency!

And our drier is a 2 in 1 washer drier and doesn't work at all. It just makes things hot and damp. So we air dry everything. The joys of renting...

  9. I have books ready to pick up at the library and I'm so excited, I have one measly book to show off next week.

I wear watches on my non-writing wrist and bracelets too, I rarely wear anything on my right wrist at all.

  10. Yay for bakes queso tacos! We were eating them "together" last night! Sooooo delicious! I'm excited for my leftovers today for lunch :)

  11. No watch for me now. I used to love them. And I only love slim rectangle faced watches on a leather band ! I lost my favorite watch when we stayed in the hotel in Pittsburgh and David snored all night and we were going to Lori and Jack's surprise wedding. Amen on the e card. Control what you can control I would have to be saying to myself. Happy Cinco de Mayo! Love. Your. Momma

  12. haha - that is so the truth about feeling safer in the bathrooms!!!
I always switch back &forth my watches. I didnt know you were 'supposed' to wear it on your non-dominant arm until everyone asked me if I was left handed. Who knew there were watch rules? But I'll wear mine where ever I want on whatever day. I'm a Bad-A like that ;)

  13. I have so many thoughts. Ok. #1 - I'm starving now, that guac looks amazing. Mine is never guac so much as it's mashed avocados with salt and garlic powder, because I'm too lazy to do things like dice onions. #2 - totally agree. I change planners a lot too, and even though I used an Erin Condren for a year and adored it, it didn't work the next year so it was time to switch. It happens! I'm trying a new system, going to test out a Bailey Craft planner. I'll let you know. #5 - why are women so disgusting in public? Like, do you do that in your own home, is that what your bathroom looks like all the time?! No? Then don't do it in public. Yuck. #8 - have you cleaned the tube thing, like where it leaves the dryer? I saw something on pinterest about cleaning that nasty thing out, it gets bad.

  14. Oh my goodness those tacos look delish! The last 2 times I have bought avocados they have been tossed because they got ripe too fast which makes me cry. I love my big planner but do miss not having one that fits in my purse easily. Love the gold!

  15. it sort of hurt my heart when i read that you abandoned your plum planner. but i get it; when i switched to the plum planner from my smaller one that i carried in my purse, it definitely a transition but now that i'm used to it, i love it.

and thanks for the URL for those pens.

  16. My planner game started off so strong, and I still love my planner (it's one I picked up at the bookstore) but it's 8.5x11 and while I love that size for writing and fitting things into spaces...it doesn't really fit in my purse. And if I can't carry it around with me I end up not using it. It's kind of a bummer but it really drove home the point that I need something that's portable!

  17. lol that ecard. but seriously yes to grown women in bathrooms.. i don't care what parts you have as long as you don't trash the bathrooms. i haven't worn a watch in years but when i did, it was not on my dominant hand. i don't know why. i do like my plum paper planner, but not as much as i thought i would.. i don't use the daily things at all. i LOVE other parts, like the monthly thingy and the bill tracker, but i don't use the daily days (daily days?) as much as i thought i would.

  18. Those tacos sound awesome! I've been wanting tacos so I might have to make those for next week. Springsteen definitely seems like a better option. I don't know that I've ever been head over heels for any candidate but I've never disliked both options as much as I do right now.

  19. Sooooo with you on the studying of google maps before a trip. Have you used City Maps to Go app? Someone told me about it right before we went to Europe, and I used it a ton. You can download maps and drop pins while you're on wifi at the hotel/VRBO and then use it offline while you're navigating through the city. It's probably the same as downloading a google map, but I haven't tried that so I have no comparison.

Already started my Show Us Your Books post. I'm so proud of myself for finally being on top of my game and able to link up. HALLELUJAH!

  20. I made a big bowl of guacamole too. So yummy! I wear my watch on my non-dominant hand, always have but not sure why. I don't use planners. I buy them occasionally because they make me look organized and such but eventually they get forgotten. I always think women's bathrooms will be "nice" and it kind of freaks me out when they are not, especially at a restaurant or grocery store. And hell yes, I feel safer there than I do many other places.

  21. My friend wears her watch on her dominant hand to cover a tattoo she regrets. But you two are in the minority. Target bathrooms are always a little... ick. And I'm dying for Mexican tonight but the rest of the world will be too, so maybe over the weekend... I started my SUYB post, yay for not being last minute!

  22. Hell is most certainly a place where you're stuck behind those cars. So is the Garden State Parkway lately. Just ugh. I wear my mala beads on my right (dominant writing) wrist and am needing (wanting, really) to get a watch really badly, which I plan to wear on my left like I do my running watch. I feel like I've never thought about why and now I'm wondering.... interesting. Nice watch though.
I don't know what it is that turns women in public restrooms into completely disgusting slobs. Get it together.

  23. I'll be curious to find out how you like Miller's Valley. I generally like Anna Quindlen's books. I don't wear my watch on my dominant hand but I do wear my fitbit on my dominant hand and I don't think most people do.

  24. Just give me all the guac right now! We're doing tacos at home tonight, and I can hardly wait! I'm also so excited for the Show Us Your Books linkup next week! Your trip to Ireland sounds like so much fun! Our friends recently visited and loved it!

  25. All I know is that Trump was endorsed by the KKK and then the following day, the presumptive nominee. In the words of Forrest Gump, that's all I have to say about that. That Zodiac Killer stuff was so dumb but did make me lol, I will admit. Give me all the 'ole!!! And so annoying about your washer. We had that with our dishwasher last year and it was KILLING ME SOFTLY.

  26. I'm so glad I'm not the only person who obsesses over maps before I travel somewhere! Every time I see those tacos they look so good. I haven't heard of Poppin notebooks before but I love the look of them!

  27. I used to wear my watch on the dominant hand. Now I just don't wear one, haha. (I think it'd bother me when I write now.) I'm addicted to my planner and I'm already on the hunt for a new one for 2017. (I'm a psycho.) I've used the same brand for three years but I'm willing to switch it up if I find something I love :)

  28. Yum to guac! I might just have to make some tonight and have just that as dinner ;) I've been using Erin Condren planners for about 4-5 years now and I think next year I MIGHT just make the switch to a more simplified/smaller one. It breaks my heart to say/think that- but times change ha!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Um, how cute is that Poppin website?!? So cute! Love the gold notebooks! I agree, don't force yourself to use something just because it's the thing to use. While I adore my PP planner too, next year, I'm only getting a monthly one because I RARELY use the week pages.

  30. Um hello baked tacos...brb while I make these for dinner.

  31. Ahhh is it guac o'clock?!?!?! I have been paying attention to how they make the one at my favorite restaurant and think I have it figured out to try at home. I have tried and tried to get myself to use a planner for years now and I fail every time. I do carry around a notebook but its not near as organized as yours with paperclips. People are disgusting when it comes to public bathrooms and I laughed at your comment about feeling safer in there than in the parking lot. Samsies.

  32. We did a cinco de mayo table at my work on our floor this morning and by ten, there was just crumbs. I can't believe I hadn't tried avocados until last year. That's insane to me.
Love your new watch; I almost prefer men's watches over womens. I find they're less ornate/tacky/crap on them. I like classic and understated, not something I can spot across the room. I should look into this brand. I usually dive with my Timex watch. And really though, what the HELL is with "water resistant to 150 meters". Well shit, is it waterPROOF or water resistent? There's a big difference! Lol!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Your guac sounds delicious! My friend from Texas uses cream cheese instead of sour cream and it's the best guac I've ever tasted. How exciting for Ireland!! What month do you go?

    ReplyDelete
  34. I love that watch (and this is coming from someone who never wears a watch anymore).

The Ted Cruz/Zodiac Killer thing cracked me up too. I was like, "What? Who comes up with this shit?" Everything else in politics right now? No.

And yes to Ireland! That will be an awesome trip. :-)

  35. Stopping by from the likup.

Oooh, Ireland! I LOVE Ireland. Have an amazing time.

  36. That guacamole looks amaaaazziing. I am gonna get my guacamole fix today, and tomorrow. Possibly every day. Have you created your own map on Google Maps? I had fun doing that for Iceland. You can plot points and stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  37. That guacamole looks DELISH! And lol at the ecard of hell being two cars under the speed limit parallel to each other, why does it seem to happen so much?! And yay for Target trips, and ugh the bathroom commotion needs to stop. Why must our society make such a huge deal out of nothing when there are so many more important things for us to be focusing on :-P

    ReplyDelete
  38. I love studying maps before a trip - you have no idea how much that could come in handy when you're lost. And that bumper sticker is awesome - Ted Cruz is creepy and the Trump punchline should have come months ago... but it didn't. Eff.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I actually switched to a monthly planner. It's so much more suitable to me than a day-to-day one. I don't have TIME to write down what I'm doing every hour of the day.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Oh man my dryer was doing the same thing then I realized I had it on delicates. Oops. Maybe vacuuming out the vents will help?
