Thursday Thoughts: What I'm Currently

Reading...Out of the Easy ETA finished that last night, library day today!

Watching...nothing. I haven't watched TV at home this week. At the shore Sunday I caught a few episodes of Naked and Afraid. I love that show.

Listening to...All E-Street Radio, all the time. And some Prince tributes here and there.

Searching for...a waterproof watch that doesn't look like a plastic dork mess and isn't a trillion dollars. I finally found one for $60 I can clean with at the shore, wear in the ocean, and all that stuff so I'll pull my phone out less as a time telling device. Thanks, Overstock. Next up: pocket digital camera. Do you see the rely on phone less theme here?

Wearing...Pixie pants from Old Navy, daily. They're my uniform.
Drinking...Iced green tea with mint made from these Twinings Cold Brew bags. I'm about to try Honey Lavender Yogi tea too.

Trying...to get my summer schedule down for the weekends. When will I be home? Rarely. When will I be out of town? Most of the time. LOL

Stalking...A number of contractors at the shore. Mama's on a tight timeline. Weekend renters start on 5/11 and we're full up through Labor Day. The window for doing any inside work has gotten significantly smaller. Installation of a new split duct AC/heating unit on the main floor began yesterday. Huzzah!

Moving...shit around in the basement. Still. Ho hum. I could've done some last night but instead I got into bed before 8. I needed to. I would really like to finish this project up this weekend. Our Lady of Victory, pray for us.

Loving...When the skies open up after a hard rain.
Hating...The anti-transgender shit thinly disguised as concern for women and children in public bathrooms. First of all, we've all been going to the bathroom with transgender people for years, we just didn't know it because no one is required to flash their private parts to go to the bathroom in a public restroom. Secondly, I have used the men's room a million times because the lines in the women's rooms are out of control. Will I be arrested now? Third, if you are worried about men pretending to be women so they have easy access to women and children alone in bathrooms, see below. Fourth, if you think for a fucking second that rapists or molesters have any respect for "safe places," or that safe places even exist you are sadly mistaken. You have not been concerned about our safety on streets in daylight or at night, in parks, in parking garages, at concerts, in schools or dorms or pews or stores or anywhere, so don't get in a huff about us peeing next to transgender people in public restrooms to suit your personal agenda. NEWSFLASH: We're always at risk. Kids have been molested IN CHURCHES. By PRIESTS. Women have been assaulted EVERYWHERE, including at their workplaces, in their own rooms at college, and in their own homes, by people they know and people they don't. Women and children get attacked and raped all across this country every day and no one gives a fuck until now, when people want to pee with people they look like instead of where the genitals they were born with say they should pee. Stop using your fear of something you don't understand as an excuse to vilify people who are different than you and concentrate your energy on making rape culture die an immediate death, making it shameful for the perpetrator and not for the victims, and prosecuting actual rapists and pedophiles swiftly and severely instead of putting the onus on victims to just deal with it, brushing it off, showing leniency because they're "good people," or saying she asked for it. The former Speaker of the House and child molester just got two years of supervised release. Supervised release...really. Be concerned about that bullshit, and the message that extremely lenient sentence sends to the people he abused and to others afraid to come forward against their abusers because of the shit they'll have to go through just for their abuser to get off with like no punishment. I have no time for this fake, very convenient concern bullshit. It's enough.

Behind on...Emails. In all email accounts. Apologies to the world.

Looking forward to...twp concerts this summer, said the non-concert goer. Paul Simon on June 25 with MFD, Stephen & Aubrey; and the Counting Crows August 10 with Melissa and Debbie for sure and maybe a few other ladies too. Considering The Beach Boys in OCNJ in July.

What's going on with you?

  1. Everything you just said about the Target controversy is completely spot on. Just want to copy and paste it and put it all over my Facebook!!

  2. Its really true. To the extent that we are all http://ratedbystudents.com educated and informed, we will be more equipped to deal with the gut issues that tend to divide us.

  3. I completely agree with you on the transgender bathroom issue. I have nothing else coherent to add other than the fact that the rate of violence towards transgender people is so much higher than the rest of the population so if anyone needs protection, it's them. This kind of kneejerk intolerance makes me really angry.

  4. TotLly agree with you in the bathroom issue. I too use the men's when the women's us crazy. And it is ridiculous to think that rapists would obey any sort of law like this.... It's all just hate and it is disgraceful.

Super jealous of all your shore house awesome as to come this summer!

  5. i have tried to find a pair of those adorable pixie pants in my size from ON for months but no luck :(

  6. Sounds like an AWESOME summer for concerts!! Hope everything goes well with the shore house!! I am intrigued about your thoughts on Out of the Easy...it sounds like a fascinating read.

  8. Paul Simon! I would love to see Art make a surprise appearance. Send phone videos please! I got hooked on them when The Graduate came out. Had all of their albums. Now you and both brothers love them! Amen on the bathroom situation. Continued Goddess speed on the shore house and lights and Angels for all to go smoothly! Love the Twinings teas!
Happy Friday eve! Love. Your. Momma.

  9. Naked and Afraid is one of the ONLY reasons I miss having cable.
Yes, yes, yes to everything you said about transgenders and bathrooms. People are so stupid.
    Also, yessss Counting Crows!

  10. AMEN to your comment on the transgender bathroom issue. I'm SO tired of all the hatred in this country. And it's SO much more evident to me with all of the Trump support when all he spews is hate and mean-ness.
I first saw an episode of Naked and Afraid when we were in the Dominican and I was supremely intrigued. I've since only seen a couple of episodes but....there is NO WAY I could do that show. I'm afraid with my clothes on lol

    1. P.S. at your rental house do you have a separate part for you? So is that why you'll be able to be down there a lot this summer? If so, we definitely have to meet up! Perhaps at Sunrise??

  11. Living in the Old North State O Hate, I LOVE YOUR RANT ON THE BATHROOMS. IT'S NOT ABOUT THE BATHROOMS (and I've been in plenty of Men's rooms). WTF is all I can say. It's an embarrassment and November can't get here fast enough. I have decided to delete people that keep posting on my FB page that this HB2 shit is okay. I completely agree with everything you said and I love ya!

  12. Amen on the bathroom issue. The fact is that there are already laws against attacking people in public bathrooms and people have been prosecuted with them. In no documented case was the assaulter a transgender woman! Trans men and women are the ones most likely to be assaulted...the whole thing makes me furious. Good luck with the renovations at the shore! And enjoy the concerts! I'm so ready to start vacation tomorrow afternoon...we're heading to Disney World with my brother's family.

  13. Perfectly stated on the bathroom issue, and I completely agree.
Did you see the Naked and Afraid episode where the two viewers were thrown out there? I played water polo with the girl (Kristin) in college at Ohio State.
If you have the chance to see the beach boys, DO IT! I was weary of going, but my mom wanted to go, so I went with her. Was honestly one of the best concerts I've seen in awhile. It was a HUGE party and every single person was having the time of their life. So many great songs to dance to!

  14. Ok, listen. We are so in-tune this Thursday. Haha! I have that book on my priority to-read list, I love Pixie pants from Old Navy, and cold mint tea in warm weather is THE BEST.
Also, the bathroom thing? Honestly, what the hell? I can't figure out this country's priorities. Bathroom laws? Trump for President? Please, PLEASE tell me this is a nightmare. Or a very bad joke. I can't understand stupid, hateful people. I can't.
I saw where someone said that men are making a fuss because they feel like they might be looked at in the bathrooms or victimized. First of all, YOU WON'T BE. Trust me, peeing and pooping isn't attractive to anyone. (Also, you must be vain as f*ck to actually worry about that shit.) Secondly, EVERY SINGLE DAY women are victimized for their sexuality. I would RATHER share the bathroom with a transgender person (who is actually a human being... like, that's it. They're just a human being) than walk down a busy city street with 5 men sitting on a door stoop. Because CHANCE ARE one of them is going to harass me. Not the lady in the stall next to me at Target.
Whoa. Sorry. That went longer than I meant to.
Side note, your beach house makes me want to have a beach house to use and rent out!

  15. Love the watch you found! I am definitely impressed it's waterproof, I've never seen such a stylish one! My summer is normally booked up by now but with a baby due in June I've pretty much remained commitment-free thus far. Not hating it ;)

    ReplyDelete
  16. Ohhhhh let me know what you think of the honey lavender tea!! That sounds interesting. Good luck with all the shore house contracting. Hopefully everything will fall in to place for you so that you can have a less stress renting season!!!

I completely agree with what you said about the whole bathroom issue. Just because there is a law about something, or a sign on a door....doesn't mean that the pervs and criminals are going to be like ohhhh it says I cant come in here so I guess I cant go in there now. No. They are fucking criminals and do what they want when they want regardless of the law.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I love Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt- have you seen that? There isn't much good on lately (to me!)
and I agree this anti transgender sentiment is just ridiculous. it's 2016, can we not?

    ReplyDelete
  18. YES to everything you said in hating. I am getting so sick tired of all these stupid, asinine laws getting passed that promote hate and discrimination. What effing century is this????? And when I saw the "reasoning" behind the law, because they were "afraid" that pedophiles and rapists would take advantage of it, I wanted to scream. So what, now that there is a law, pedophiles and rapists won't victimize anyone in any bathroom anymore? Because it's not like it is against the law - everywhere and anywhere - to molest or rape someone right now. Please.

    ReplyDelete
  19. omg the bathroom issue. So much of the hate in this world is over issues that literally have nothing to do with you. Which bathroom anyone else uses has nothing to do with you. And if it's THAT big a concern, don't use public bathrooms. The end. (I sure don't, but my OCD germ issues are a whole other topic.)
Also something that pisses me off about girls in general - the fuck you doing in the bathroom so long that you actually notice who else is in there with you? Pee, wash your hands, GTFO. It's not social hour. If anything you're doing in there involves your phone, you suck and that's why there's lines.

  20. You have so many fun concerts coming up this year! I would love to see Dolly Parton and Counting Crows! Surprisingly I haven't watched much TV this week either, but I'm blaming that on working late this week! I can't wait to hear what you thought about Out of The Easy! I've heard good things about it so far!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oo, I like your pants and your shoes! Really cute. I hear you on the basement. I feel like my organizational projects like that always end up having really long legs. Like, enough! I'm ready to be done! LOVEEEE tea always but love iced tea most in the spring and summer. Word to your mother on the longer paragraph.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Old Navy pickie pants are seriously so comfortable and they keep coming out with new colors and patterns so I keep buying more . Iced green tea has been my juice for the last month or two. So good!

  23. I just had to tweet this post because while I was thinking about my comments on everything else, your comments on bathroom bills just dropped the mic. It's the most important thing, and it's honestly unfathomable to me. Thanks for saying it all.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I want to read Out of the Easy and I love those pants! Also, I'm totally sharing this post on my blog tomorrow. I've been wanting to go off about the bathroom issue and haven't been able to articulate it. It makes me so angry and sad at the same time.

    ReplyDelete
  25. yes to everything about the transgender fake concern about the bathrooms. that is so effing stupid. KC was telling me someone he listens to (a podcast or something) said easy fix: put signs on the front that say sit down or stand up. there are several clubs at home that the bathrooms are all together, no men or women, we all use the same stuff, is anyone worried for my safety there? that is fucking bullshit. like you said, bad people don't respect safe places. ugh people make me sick with their stupidity or hatefulness disguised as concern. no. go fuck yourself. rage.
um sorry about that haha. love those pants, and yay for relying on the phone less :)

  26. PREACH re: Transgender bs! People need to get with the times. Just flying by as a lurker, but I had to come out of lurkdom to give you a virtual fist bump on your transgender message.

  27. We love Naked and Afraid too, we wonder though why people volunteer to do it.

I'm over hearing about the LGBT population being dangerous, it's just a ridiculous replay of the civil rights movement. As usual most people learned nothing from history.

  28. Pocket digital camera- I recommend the Fuji XP90. I just picked it up because I had it's predecessor from eons ago, the XP10 and wanted an upgrade. The XP10 I dropped it in a 30ft deep harbour down in Barbados four years ago and it sat for 6 hours and it still worked when we retrieved it and was only rated to 15 feet or something.
The XP90 is rated for 50 feet, shockproof to 5.8ft/1.75m, freezeproof 14°F/-10°C and dust-proof against dust or sand. <---- perfection. You can drop that sucker on the beach, in the water whatever and you're set.

    Just my two cents. :)

  29. I'm all up in those pants. Not your personal ones, of course.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I love love Old Navy's pixie pants!! And I totally agree with your "hating" part! It's all just ridiculous.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Seriously, why CAN'T we all get along?????

    ReplyDelete
  32. I know everyone and their mother commented on the bathroom thing, but I just have to say PREACH. Target is my new favorite for standing up to all those bullshit haters. I did read the whole post and it was all entertaining, but this bathroom thing gives me rage blackouts and I can't focus on things that long. I've unfriended two people on Facebook that I know but never interact with because they posted hateful stuff about it. Ain't nobody got time for that.

    ReplyDelete
  33. The "protect your wife and daughter" shit makes me so angry. When I saw that Ted Cruz ad, I pretty much flipped out. I can't stand that dude anyway and hate that he's from Texas but it's just one of the many ignorant arguments that the crazy tea party people make that appeal to the dumbass people in this country. You know what Ted Cruz Senator from Texas doesn't care about?? The number of women sexually assaulted at Baylor University in Texas, and the number of failures of the university to properly investigate those assaults. Make a commercial about that, Mr. Cruz.

    ReplyDelete
  34. You are spot on with the bathroom issue. As I saw in a photo on FB, it wasn't about water fountains then; it's not about bathrooms now...it's an issue of hate.

PS--Honey lavender tea? Yum! I'm a Mint Medley girl, but this sounds delish! Keep us posted on the camera.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I need to try that green tea with mint. I am obsessed (otherwise known as I stock pile around 20 boxes) of the Trader Joe's holiday candy cane mint. I don't like just mint tea or just green tea but it seemed like the combination of the two was rare. Until now.

  36. Your "Hating" statements echo everything I've been saying about this topic lately. I just can't deal with the bullshit anymore. I mean, as you pointed out, people are sexually assaulted all the time in places that are considered "safe" (like churches, their own homes, dorm rooms, etc.) ... And no one seems to care. Fuck that. (And, like you, I've used the men's room plenty of times as well when I didn't want to wait in line. The horror!)

On a lighter note, I'm jealous that you're seeing Counting Crows! They were here last year (or two years ago?) and I wasn't able to go. I'd love to see them sometime, though. I'm sure it will be an awesome show!

Oh, and I feel like I'm always behind on emails these days (and blogging related stuff too). It's not just you!

    ReplyDelete
  37. What you said in your "Hating..." comment is the sum total of various comments I've posted on several different people's facebook statuses. Pervs are going to find ways to perv; rapists are going to find ways to rape; and they are not going to be encouraged or discouraged because of Target's restroom policy. For fuck's sake. I've used the men's room (like you) when ladies' lines are too long. Never once did I check out a penis while doing so. It is ridiculous.
Looking forward to SUYB to hear your thoughts on Out of the Easy.

haven't watched tv this week. it's just been prince on repeat for the past week.

  41. Your blog is my favorite to read. Truly. Thank you for your comments about the bathroom controversy, they are truly spot on. I was molested by my best friend's dad at her house in the middle of the day. You know, in a place I should have felt safe as an 11 year old kid. He was a straight, married old dude.

I personally hate public bathrooms because people are gross. Not because I am afraid of a transgender impersonator attacking me.

    Thanks again, you rock.
