Thursday Thoughts on things

1.  The bastard squirrels have eaten too many of my bulbs. Lori is going to re-plant spring bulbs for me in the fall. The few that remain are crutching along. I've been planning my front flower bed this past week.
2. I've had Like the Weather by 10,000 Maniacs in my head all week, specifically because every day this week I've walked out of my house in inappropriate attire and refused to go back in for a heavier jacket. I feel a shiver in my bones just thinking about the weather. It's like the 1990s up in here.
3. Pedicure today. I'm in need.

4. Every April, MFD likes to play the guess how much we owe in taxes game. I do not like to play this game, but I humor him. This year something went terribly awry during said game and his typo had me thinking we owed the federal government $110,000. Never mind that there's no way that could possibly be, I was not thinking clearly and I believed it. He was out with clients and didn't get my frantic WTF texts so basically I nearly died and within minutes had planned to sell everything I own and move into a van down by the river. He had a hoot of a laugh when he got back to me, as has everyone else who has heard this story since Tuesday.

5. Jana and I are super jazzed that Show Us Your Books had 55 posts link up this month, including ours. What a fucking fantastic community of readers. When people ask for book recommendations, I'm just going to send them to this link and say if you can't find one here, I don't know what to tell you. Thank you and good day. I SAID GOOD DAY. Anyhoo Jana and I met up for lunch on Wednesday and even though she drug two old books I lent her with her, I left them in the booth with the romantic notion that someone in need of a book might happen upon them.
6. Happy National Library Week!

7. Jana also bought me this Urban Decay Sheer Revolution lipstick, which I love a) for the name and b) for the color.
8. I cancelled my plans this weekend because I need to slow my roll and re-charge in a major way. I will always say no to things in order to say yes to my sanity.

9. I've been watching Rectify. Have you guys seen it?

10. E-card of the week:

  1. The good news is that with the shore house you can deduct ALL of your expenses for fixing it up and renting it so maybe next year you might not owe anything? Hopeful thinking. Happy Thursday!!!

  2. Love the ecard! Yay for such a big turn out for the link up!! So glad you're taking the time to recharge this weekend...and while you're doing that you can be grateful that you dont owe the govt 110K lol

  3. It's been a rough week, and your Thursday Thoughts always put a smile on your face. I definitely needed a good belly laugh, which I got from reading your story about owing $110k in taxes. Friggen amazing. Thanks for the laugh. Now that the weather is finally warming up, we need to meet at 12 Monkeys for brunch!
Love that you cancelled plans to re-charge your batteries!

  4. OMG I would have had the same situation as you with the taxes...total panic. Glad that isn't actually the case!! Love that you and Jana live close enough to meet up and chat in person!

  5. Saying no is saying yes to you!

  6. I love the name and that lip color too!
I am all about taking time to yourself and recharging! You have to do that for your sanity. I have to do it so I don't kill people.

  7. Love the book link up, such a great community and such a great idea. I love linking up every month and finding new reads.

Cheers to recharging this weekend and not owing the government that many zeros, eeeegad

  8. I keep hearing about Rectify, but I know nothing of it. And itunes told me the new ep was available today but I heard about Beautiful Stories from Anonymous Souls a whopping three times yesterday so I went for that first (also, it's hard to change podcasts while driving). The tax story is funnier the second time. I can't imagine...

  9. haha that lip color is awesome. Our audio is never going to be perfect either. Tara records in car driving home from work usually, I record with Hawkeye playing in the background. That's just life!

  10. Jesus. H. Christ. On the taxes. Lol in a van by the river. God bless Chris Farley! Can't wait until the lily of the valley come out. Perfect little flowers and a heavenly scent.
Goddess speed for an awesome recharge weekend. The weather will be divine. Happy Friday eve! Love. Your. Momma.

  11. oh i love that you left those books there! i hope someone finds them and enjoys them. my friend asked my for book recommendations the other day, she was like i know you post about them but they don't really seem like my jam, do you have anything else? haha and i said.. those 2 girls i link up with? check their links out, they will have books you like lol. yay for 55! it's such a fun link up!
i think i would have a heart attack if i thought i owed the government that much money. jesus!

  12. I've left books places in hopes that they find good homes, who doesn't want to stumble upon free homeless books?

  13. Loving that lipstick! And LOL at MFD and the taxes, that would have given me a heart attack too :-P

  14. I HATE the guess our tax game. You have my sympathies for your van living-tax induced panic attack.

  15. I love that you and Jana are friends - it makes me happy when blog buds of mind are buds in 'real life.' Also, I NEED TO START READING AGAIN. I'm trying to get inspired by you ladies, but any free time I have has been going into the blog and reading just hasn't been happening. Once summer hits and I can plant my ass on the beach, I'll pick it up again. The amount of things on my GoodReads "to read" shelf is obscene. Also, LOL to that taxes story.

  16. I love your book link-up! Even though I never participate in the actual posting/linking, I read almost all of them and have a mega list of book recommendations going- I love it!! Haven't heard of Rectify but that looks right up my alley.

  17. Rectify - is it a movie or a series? gotta check it out.
I like the 'gritty' sound of the podcast - makes me feel like I've got you on my cell phone listening in :) haha
    Enjoy that pedicure!

  18. YES to saying no to things to say yes to sanity! I think I just made that sentence not make sense but I can't agree more. This weekend we have our first weekend at home since February and I can't wait. It hasn't come a moment too soon. We'll be catching up on some gardening things too so sending good growing and anti squirrel vibes from this side of the Atlantic to yours.

And the taxes thing? No. Awful. I would have probably have been on the next flight to deepest darkest Peru before my husband even got back.

  19. I need to start reading again just so I can join the link up! I keep telling myself that once summer hits I will start devouring books again!

  20. I want that urban decay color so bad! The name is amazing and the colors just really nice. The squirrels are evil here also! Just rats and prettier costumes!

  21. Love the flowers, especially the tulips! When I lived in MN, it always made me so happy when they started blooming. I have a notorious black thumb and have killed every single plant I've ever owned, inside or outside, and without squirrels to blame either. The lipstick not only has the best name but the color is gorgeous too. Love that you say "no" to say "yes" to your sanity. I need to get better at this. This is something I'm working on but you don't lose almost 41 years of people-pleasing ways overnight.

  22. I actually considered cancelling plans this weekend to chill, but I'll make time for relaxing next weekend. I am near you, in Delaware, so I feel your pain with this weather. Although thank goodness it is looking good for the several days.

  23. I love y'all's book linkup so much, so I'm glad others have too. I swear I'll get my shit together one of these months to linkup again! I'm in need of a pedicure too, just booked an appointment for my mom and I on Friday: a great reward for working a whole week, ha.

  24. The taxes story. Still funny two days later.

I really do wonder what happened to the books. We'll have to go back and follow up. And I'm so glad you love the lipstick with the best name ever that I'm wearing today even though no one will see me except the dogs.

  25. $110,000?! I would have died too. With the side hustle from blogging, this is the first year we owed. Thank God, it was only $100, but still I am used to getting back so that was rough!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hahahaha the tax story is pretty funny. I would shit if we owed that much money and would have sold everything and moved down to the river as well. I super love your book link up and podcast!!!! Who doesn't want to talk about books all the time?!?!?! I hope someone stumbled upon those books and it made their day!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think that we would have almost died too if I thought that I owed that much in taxes! That's just scary! If somebody couldn't find a book that they'd want to read from the Show Us Your Books Linkup, there's something very wrong with them. I always add at least 20 to my TBR list!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yea, I would have fainted at the $100K tax bill. Heck, once we had a $10K tax bill and that was devastating enough. Yay for awesome linkup. I need to make time to look through the other 50 links though :).

  29. Oh no Mr. MFD! Way to freak your wife out and that's the worst when you're left on hold to let your thoughts run wild.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Rectify, I have not seen, but I'm laughing my ass off with Catastrophe. So funny! Have a great weekend. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Haha I play that same taxes game with my husband! I don't think either of us think it's funny though. I love that you left the books in the booth and I really hope that whoever found them enjoys them! Also, I don't blame you from being unable to refrain from eating cookies. My self-control goes right out the window when it comes to sweets. I'll just have to remember to eat something delicious while I listen to the podcast so I don't get jealous! haha

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hello, friend. Glad to see you're still at it. I wrote my first list, not really a post, in over a year today. I can't believe you left those books in the booth! I would have been uber excited to find them. A couple of years ago, some identity mix up happened, and the IRS said we owed them an extra $25,000 on some antiques that we DID NOT EVER OWN, MUCH LESS SELL. I bout had a stroke.

  33. Scott loved the show Rectify, but he didn't watch it with me and I didn't make it far on my own. Maybe I'll try again...

And yeah, when someone asks me what to read, I either direct them to Goodreads or, if I like them, my blog. Why waste the words...and try to remember the remarks I had for all the books.

Thanks for always supporting our lil linkup :)

  34. I've been wanting to try that new lipstick!! That linkup rocks, I seriously love it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. You know I'm a huge fan of the link-up! :-) I hope it continues to grow. I've found a lot of great bloggers via Show Us Your Books!

LOL at your tax story! I'm pretty sure my thought process would have been similar if I thought we somehow owed that much (especially if Eric wasn't answering my texts!). I'd probably already be pricing everything I owned by the time he got back to me. Haha.

This weekend is the first weekend in a while that I'm actually doing something (other than laundry/chores, reading, blogging, etc.). I'm a huge fan of staying in and enjoying mostly lazy weekends in yoga pants/sweatpants. (Which is why I rarely do weekend recaps. Haha.)

  36. My tulips are finally blooming, love them! I have nothing this weekend but a long list of things to do but nowhere to be and i love it. Hope you get to indulge a little bit. I binged on the Armchair podcast, loving it.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I loveeeee me some urban decay. I've never been disappointed with their product. And aw, the squirrels. Sorry they're eating your plants but I just love them! lol.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I applaud #8.
I'm behind two episodes (I think) for The Armchair Librarians. I plan to fix this before next Tuesday. I have off Sunday & Monday, so I plan to do it then.
I hope the books you left find good homes.
