In Our House

post idea from Shannon at Brass Honey
We take the back cushions off the couches when we lay on them.

There is never a time when the quad laundry sorter is empty.

We're more spiritual than religious, yet there is a Buddha in every room and one of us is a Catholic.

Two people spread clothes across four bedrooms.

We are on opposing sides in the thermostat wars.

If the door and windows can be open, they're open.

We subscribe to the treat yo'self philosophy.

The dining room table is a dumping ground.

There has never been and will never be any ketchup in the house that is not made by Heinz.

The sheets get changed at least once a week.

We don't have any booze, beer, or wine.

There's stuff hung on every wall and precious few of those walls are white.

Only one of us puts dishes in the dishwasher regularly, and that is not MFD.

We laugh a lot.

Most days a human cleans up a dog mess inside.

We never run out of coffee.

MFD's contributions...

The kitchen will be finished "soon."

The dogs lay with Steph and then me when Steph isn't present.

The front bow window installed by the previous owners might as well be made of cheesecloth.

When Steph wakes up, don't try to engage. Eyes down and act busy. She may just pass you by without further orders...  (This cracked me up. It's the truth)

And in your house?

  2. This post made me decide to re-open my blog and start writing.

    In our house:

He is the king. (But really, I'm in charge)
The toilet paper comes out from the bottom.

  4. I related to SO many of these. So many. Seriously? I think you are my new best internet friend, you know. The kind you feel like know them, but they are like...who the hell are you? Happy Friday!

  5. "Eyes down, act busy" LOL
That's how I act when Scott is doing home improvement projects and they're not going well.

    I keep windows open too.

  6. I love this! I want to do my own post like this next week! :)

  7. haha this is a great, fun post! Love it!! My dog is the same way with my husband as yours are with MFD. If I'm there, Cooper is with me, and if I'm not, he'll settle for my husband lol

  8. Our dining room table is the catch all too and it drives me insane.

Also in my house it feels like you live inside an oven during July and August but you suck it up without complaint because you live by the sea.

  9. Why no booze in your house?!

  10. "Only one of us puts dishes in the dishwasher regularly, and that is not MFD." Too funny. Ugh yea, I like mornings, but need some time to wake up first. Jason also knows this!

  11. LOL @ the last one. Blue says I'm like a zombie that reanimates when I wake up, and if I'm in her place and she's not in the bedroom she knows I'm up because I start wailing for coffee. I also have a Buddha statue and I'm Catholic-ish. He doesn't wear rosary beads though.

  12. This is too cute :) I'm glad to know that cleaning up a daily dog mess doesn't just happen in our house. Haha! In our house the larger dog has her own human-size bed (that she claimed herself). And in our house there's ALWAYS a stack of husband's paperwork that needs moved/filed/looked over.

  13. "eyes down - act busy".. that is hilarious. You have him trained so well :)
I am the same way with windows & doors open. Give me ALL THE FRESH AIR!!!!!
    I hate the word "religious"
I cleaned up dog pee before I left for work this morning so check on that one too.

  14. That MFD is smart... I've never considered taking off the back cushions. That's pretty genius.

  15. You have been killing it lately with awesome posts! I have definitely a believer in opened windows as soon as they can be opened!

  16. Great post! I might save this idea for later use as well. Our kitchen table is totally the dumping ground for all things... whoops!

  17. LOL @ the last comment by MFD! There seems to only be one person in our house that knows how to load the dishwasher on a regular basis as well. Have a ridiculous amount of pillows on our couch that came with it and we are constantly moving them around. I hate our couch actually and want a new one so bad!

  18. Love this! I take the pillows off my couch generally, but leave the cushions. I never run out of coffee either—I'll make a special trip just to make sure that doesn't happen. I only have one room, so I guess I could say there's a Buddha in every room around here too. And I was excited as I read the ketchup line until I got to the end...there is and never will be ketchup of ANY sort in this house! (Fun story: the morning after I turned 21, my little brother brought me a taylor ham, egg, and cheese...and forgot to tell the guy salt + pepper but NO KETCHUP. It was traumatizing on my already very unstable stomach.)

  19. love this post. you take back cusions off? is laundry EVER done??? ugh. there is always a project. ALWAYS. the last one. so accurate.

  20. haha the dishwasher person is not KC in my house either. and yeah.. if a day goes by without one of us cleaning up a cat mess, it's a weird day! pets. lol.

    ReplyDelete
  21. We're a Heinz house all the way too! In our house, the laundry is never caught up, the cat is always tripping someone and the windows are open at every opportunity!

  22. Lori quilts always around. Never run out of practically anything if I can help it. Wash 6-7 days a week. Pictures all over the place. Somebody's jacket on the bannister. Not mine! Dogs dogs everywhere. Fresh vacuums! There's no place like home. Love. Your. Momma.

  23. I love "eyes down, look busy." That is exactly how it was in my house growing up. On Saturdays, you had to look busy or else my mom found something for you to do. I used to read in my room and when I heard her come up the stairs, I would jump up and pretend I was cleaning my room. We still give her a hard time about it and not much has changed with her!

Have you seen the pictures of the anti-Trump campaign signs in Pittsburgh? One says something like "Trump likes Hunt's ketchup." Lololol. Heinz forever.

  24. Ahaha I love this post so much. Sounds like you guys mostly have things all figured out :)

  26. I'm with you on the windows being open as much as possible. I will just put on more clothes or add a blanket instead of closing them. I need a good hour before I'm human in the morning. People mistakenly believe that I wake up cheerful. Ummmm, no. I don't speak; I grunt and lumber around until I get enough caffeine in me to remember how to speak.

  27. Love that you never run out of coffee, and lol at the thermostat wars. The struggle is ridiculous here too ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  28. I have three bedroom and I fill the closets in all of them. I will never need that many clothes!! How, why?! I am all about the Heinz too. The last one by MFD is priceless!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. That is me in the morning too! Not a morning person. We also have buddha statues scattered throughout the house and one of us is catholic.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think that everybody has a dumping ground in their house, whether it's the dining room table or the kitchen island! It's just so hard to stay completely organized all the time!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I love the wording on "one of us is a Catholic", lol. Down with the couch cushions being removed, amplify that space! Every house has a dumping ground which is why I desp. want a mud room with cubbies at some point since they're made for that purpose. LOL to MFD's morning tips.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hahaha love this and your husband's comments on how to act when you first wake up ;)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Haha on the last one! You change your sheets weekly? How devoted! We're lucky if ours are changed every month!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yes yes yes, Heinz ketchup. Is there another kind? I like your Buddha's. They seem peaceful.

  35. MFD's last one - bahahahahaaaaa! - that is quite the same in our house. You know my father-in-law lives with us, right? One morning he mentioned that I never say "good morning" to him. I told him because I don't say "good morning" to anyone. Actually, I prefer not to speak at all for a good hour or two.
I'd have to add for my house: there is always two or more boxes of cereal on the dinner table (because of my father-in-law's lazy ass, and after about a year of scolding him and putting them away, I gave up.)

    ReplyDelete
  36. LOL so hard at that last one. You don't keep booze in your house? I never knew that.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Heinz all the way! I make my kids eat organic crap, and I still go for the Heinz. Haha! We are definitely treat yo selfers too. Jacob is the one we want to avoid in the morning. Good thing he gets up and leaves the house before the rest of us are awake six days a week. On the seventh day he gets to emerge from the bedroom when he's ready to face us. Haha!
