TWTW - the one before Spring that felt like winter

Friday night was the Covenant House Sleep Out to Support Homeless Youth. Thanks to Catie & Joe for putting a team together and inviting us and Jimmy to participate in order to raise awareness and funds. Absolutely eye opening and life changing. There will not be a year left in my life that I do not donate to Covenant House. These are the fringe kids everyone complains about being a drain on society, bringing themselves back from the edge with the help of this place and the knowledge that they are worth it and that they are resilient. More to come on this experience Wednesday. Covenant House is still just under $3000 shy of their goal for this event, click here to donate if you're able and willing.
When we got home, I laid down and went back to sleep. In a warm bed. That I will not take for granted ever again. Around noon I headed to Gamma & Pop's to hang out with some of the family for a little bit.
I hit a little Italian grocery near Gamma & Pop's and the nice old Italian man led me around by the hand and fed me pasta and sausage off the stove. Saturday afternoon I did some body and face masks, changed the sheets, made dinner, and finished season two of Bosch.
Weekly food prep: zucchini pie for breakfasts; power breakfast muffins to freeze; pickle mac and tuna salad for lunches; lemon for waters and kiwi and mini sweet peppers (not pictured) for snacks; krauty chicken and sweet potato fries and baked salmon with rice and steamed broccoli for dinners.
This weekend in dog town:
I also began putting the basement back together after pulling every blessed thing out of the utility closet. Well, let me amend that. MFD pulled it out, which is why it looks like helter skelter. LOL This is where I started boss bitching from on Sunday. Deliver me, pray for me, all of those things. Pics in a while when I have it moved around close to how I want it. I didn't get far because my productivity window for the weekend closed around 3 p.m. and the person who was supposed to come pick up the basement couches had to postpone until Wednesday. Fart noise.
To close out Sunday, there was snow and I finished a book. The End.

  3. Thinking of any kids or anyone sleeping out last night. God help, bless, and heal all of them ! Snow didn't hurt so much with high 60's and a 70 in the forecast , especially with this early Easter. The Spring equinox yesterday - get rid of negativity and a time for new beginnings! Happy Spring!
    Love. Your. Momma

  4. Spring cleaning is a frustrating endeavor as I listen to the SeƱor snowblowing outside. Yuck! But changing the sheets...love! There is nothing like climbing into a bed with freshly changed sheets. Have a great week, Steph! Kudos to you and MFD for your sleep out and bringing awareness to the problem and to this wonderful organization, also doing their best to help.

  6. There is a program here that helps our homeless teens, Kayden and I will be volunteering when she's old enough.

Snow on spring, boo. It rained here and washed the 5 million gallons of pollen away, I'll take it!

  7. I started on spring cleaning this weekend too. My basement looks similar to that right now until I can really start organizing and have a yard sale, but it takes time. It's killing my Type A personality though-haha

  8. they're set to get pretty substantial snowfall in Wisconsin this week too! I'm living in FL now, but I've endured many Wisconsin Springs with lots of snow :(
It's been steady in the 80's for the last two weeks in Florida, but the pollen has been IN-sane, which has been pretty brutal too!

  9. Cold snap down here too. So glad that Covenant House earned your loyalty. And yes, warm beds are totally a luxury - and shouldn't be. Love the little Italian man and his food. Almost as good as Pop. ;)

  11. The Covenant House is such a wonderful organization and they such great work. That is so great that you sleep outside to bring awareness. No one should be without a home. You always amazes me with home much you do in a weekend. I'm totally a slacker.

and don't even get me started on the weather. it's supposed to snow this week (up to 10cm) and we just switched out our winter tires #rage.

  13. I still have a few episodes left in Bosch. We finished up House of Cards this weekend instead. Also, I feel like I need to finally pull the trigger on some Posh products. I keep not doing it because I don't want to feed the monster but I've heard such good things about their stuff.

I will reserve my comments on how awesome it is that you did the camp out for Wednesday.

  19. Covenant House sounds like an amazing organization. Until I moved to LA, I had very limited experience dealing with homeless people. Now I see them ever day and it breaks my heart. It has also really opened my eyes. The food you made - looks so delicious and I'm starving right now! I have to check out your zucchini pie - it looks really delicious.

  21. I am going to have to see if there is a homeless teen program in our area. Your basement pile looks like the one I have in the garage to go through next weekend. I looked at it this weekend but the grass cutting took everything I had hahaha. Mae's sweater is awesome.

  23. I definitely don't think that I could ever look at my bed the same way after a sleep out like that! What a great cause to bring awareness to! That older man at the grocery store sounds like such a sweet heart, and I love that he fed you too!

  26. That damn snow delayed my flight even though there was barely any on the ground when we landed. You guys did an awesome thing by raising that money and increasing your awareness Friday night. It looks like you've inspired others which is even more awesome.
