TWTW - the one where shit got done

Last week was a bag of dicks. I sought solace in solitude, fleece lined leggings, Lori's left behind slides that are now mine, peppermint tea with milk and sugar, and blueberries I shared with los perros. It was a good time to open the winter Fab Fit Fun box I've ignored for a month. These two items are keepers.
To put it mildly, I have majorly slacked on purging and organizing and putting things away in general for a good seven months. It started with my summer fuck it phase, then got pushed to the backburner by shore house things, holidays, travel...you name it, it came before organizing. I mean, I pride myself on organizing, but this is how life is. Sometimes things that are important to you take a backburner for a while. Luckily it's a long life and Saturday was a long Saturday. If I'm planning to take on my whole house, I like to start from top to bottom. So most of my day Saturday was spent on the top floor of the house, purging and organizing shoes, clothes, travel items, beauty products, etc. I also vacuumed under the beds and on the closet floors and packed up some stuff that needs to be moved down to the shore house.
It was good to go through and touch every single thing I own upstairs. No, I did not talk to my items. But I did evaluate them, make sure they all had a place, and trashed (one bag) or donated (five bags) everything that was no longer useful to me, beautiful, or loved by me. Once I purge, I need that shit out of my house immediately in order to truly enjoy the effect, so I dropped the bags and my wedding dress at Goodwill, went to Giant for five things and came out with eleventy billion because I was starving, painted my nails (Sinful Colors Frenzy and another one I forget), and finished Broadchurch and watched some episodes of The Office. All without someone picking my trash because MFD was away for the night. LOL
Sunday while the dogs were snoozing I was doing all sorts of things: sorting mail, changing sheets on our bed and the spare bed, washing everything in the house, putting laundry away, vacuuming inside the ottoman, cleaning soap trays, changing shower curtain liners, answering emails, calling the pharmacy, yada yada yada. All the little adult shit that I haven't had time to do lately.
Weekly food prep: egg muffins with sausage, green onions, and mozzarella cheese for breakfasts; poop soup and oatmeal for the dogs; a spiral ham (not pictured); ham bone soup from the (you guessed it) ham I cooked for dinners and a few lunches; power breakfast muffins to freeze; breakfast burritos to freeze (not pictured); and iced tea with some blackberry honey from our Yellowstone trip. Snacks are celery sticks with PB and blueberries.
This weekend was just what the doctor ordered in regards to me feeling caught up on life again. I was by myself most of the weekend as MFD had a commitment Friday night, was out working Saturday and Sunday, and had an overnight guys' trip Saturday night. It was glorious and it was spent fully in lounge attire.

I spent the last part of Sunday laying around and reading. Speaking of...

  4. I agree with taking the donation bags to the donation place of choice immediately. Great to catch up and organize. Lol at the trash picker not being home. I am a trash picket when I am not the one purging.
Have as easy and productive week as possible ! Love. Your. Momma

  6. Oh man I so need to get myself to together and organize my house. It's out of control, I have just been too lazy to do it. But you are inspiring me to get my act together and to do it soon. I love lvoe that nail color. so pretty!

  7. Sounds like a perfect weekend to me. I have to get my donations out. Since my roommate already moved out, I just have everything sitting in her old room, so it doesn't bug me too much. I don't have a car so I have to call the Salvation Army truck to come get everything, but don't want to do it until I'm totally done, and I have stuff still in my parents' attic I can't get to until the 20th. I'm itching!

  8. I need to get my winter purge on, the problem is it won't stop being summery outside and distracting me from closets, cupboards, and under beds.

As small as my house is I could get it done in a weekend, I just need a non-busy cold rainy weekend to get it done.

  9. Love your subtle accent nail. I found that I too purge better when I get the stuff out of my house right away - no temptation to "save" anything since I overthought it and might need it. I need a full on, get shit done weekend like yours. Maybe now that football is finally over, I'll get one!

  10. My husband finally organized all his shit in our office. I have one small pile of things to toss and it feels amazing to finally have that done. Now I just have to talk the child into purging her playroom and I think we're all good on purging for awhile. It's really my favorite feeling to just have that shit done. This weekend will involve scrubbing the kitchen because although I clean it daily, it just doesn't feel clean enough to me. I NEED to have a clean kitchen.

I love a good, productive weekend every once in a while.

  11. Uhm, you kind of just slid in there the fact that you DONATED YOUR WEDDING DRESS?!? What the what? Why?

I'm like you . . . I like stuff tidy and sorted and organized but then life gets busy and it falls to the wayside. I need to spend a weekend, or week, doing exactly as you just did. Doesn't it just feel so awesome? Do you find yourself just walking by the organized rooms or opening doors/drawers just to gaze at the organization? Oh okay . . . that's just me. ;-) And give it up for pug life - they are just so stinking cute!

  12. yay all the shit! i really want a day or weekend where i can just purge and organise everything because i am feeling a bit overwhelmed and suffocated by crap lately. but KC gets in my way haha so I want him to be gone. and I wish I could get rid of my wedding dress. I have actually worn it once since for a photoshoot but i can't see that happening again. my MIL paid for it though, so it's not really mine to get rid of (well, it is, but whatever). It takes up an ENTIRE closet. love the nails, so pretty. i so need to take my bags to goodwill immediately, otherwise they sit in a room forever and i go through them again and again just to make sure. if i do it immediately, that obviously doesn't happen.

  13. I am so jealous of your shoe organization!
Those fingerless gloves!!!! I am drooling! Those are super cute!
Hope this week, the bag of dicks stays at Goodwill ;)

  14. Girl, my "fuck it" phase is in full gear right now. I've been telling myself that I need to clean my closet for over two months now. Have I touched it all? Nope. And ummm those power breakfast muffins? I need like 12 of those right now. They look delicious!!!

  15. You keep yourself extremely busy but it sounds like the house got a good declutter and deep clean which is always needed. I already purged my clothes and shoes for the year and working on getting the house cleaned. Love the purple nails!

  16. Major face palm incident...I never thought to put Goodwill donations in trash bags. I always use large paper bags with handles (from other stores) or boxes and I've run out so stuff has just been piling up. #gamechanger Love the purple on your nails!! Congrats on such a productive weekend!

  17. Way to kick the weekend's ass. I need one of those weekends so bad! Fingers crossed I get my butt in gear next weekend, finish purging, and clean the house!

  18. Nicely done! I'm with you- as soon as we fill up a load of bags/boxes for donation I have to get them out ASAP. We are now making weekly trips and I love it!

  19. Someone sure got some stuff done this weekend! Look at all that purging and organizing!!! Sleeping pugs are always cute! Glad you were able to take some time and get things done :)

  20. I love when you just have a weekend where you're able to get stuff done! I love that you have all of your shoes in see through boxes! I need to do that with all of my shoes because they're still in their original boxes and sometimes I don't know if the real shoes are in there!

  21. WOW! You're impressive!
But, I'm quite sure I read wedding dress three times, like I reread that sentence over and over and backtracked because I thought I missed something.
    Kudos to you!
I need to get some more organization and purging in my life, you've inspired me!
    XOXO

  22. I love co-opting left behind goods to be my own :) Sounds like you had an amazing weekend, I love those weekends where you just feel thoroughly caught up on life and ready to forge ahead. I need one of those. I also need some clear shoe boxes, I've just decided.

  23. Awesome productive weekend! I feel like I've been getting shit done around here since I can't stay still too long, it actually has helped me get through a lot of mental and physical shit!

  24. lololol @ stealing Lori's sunglasses!
I'm extremely impressed by your shoe storage!!!
You gave your wedding dress up?! BUT WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO WEAR AROUND THE HOUSE WHEN NO ONE ELSE IS HOME?!

  25. I'm jealous you got so much done. I got my house cleaned but had full intentions of purging and organizing all weekend...until I woke up with 101 degree fever on Saturday morning. Fun times. Efffffff...

  26. Man, productivity feels good. I feel actually lighter since I gave away bags of stuff a few weeks ago.
I think it's really impressive that you keep your shoes in clear boxes like that.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Good for you on getting things done - particularly those shoes!! I procrastinate a lot on things like that but it feels so good when it's done! Love the pug pictures. I've missed their faces. :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Love your new nail color. I spy your nope bag! :) I have been procrastinating lately too but hopefully with the long weekend I will get some things done this weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I love the nail color!
And I'm the same way. I spent a Saturday cleaning and purging and that crap had to get out of my place immediately. I didn't want to look at it anymore!

  30. Nice!! I've been purging things lately too in a huge way and I cant' wait to talk about it once it's done. Feels amazing. I can't believe you got rid of your wedding dress like that, you are cutthroat and I love it! I like those shoe boxes, that's a great idea. Funny how vacation is like the best time of our lives yet the weeks after are the most depressing.

  31. Your weekends always amaze me with how busy you get. Also, I really need that mug! ha!
