TWTW - the one in North Woods

Did you ever drive somewhere at night and it was so dark out it was like a void? After work on Friday Debbie and I headed up to Lori & Jack's. Lots of nonsense traffic, black as night, Mae would not stay in the back, we missed a turn and had to pull a u-ie near a haunted house, and a dog crapped a huge messy crap in the back seat. Standard Friday night.

Saturday included a long, lovely woods walks with the dogs minus Mae - Mae don't play in the cold. She stayed behind with Debbie and Jack to fangirl over the cats.
Saturday also included my favorite of Jack's breakfasts, and I love them all: bacon sugar butter toast. I cannot even describe how awesome it is. Lori, Debbie, and I hit the Dandy and a few local shops, I caught up on magazines and painted my nails, we relaxed and had a beer (I like big butts and I cannot lie), ate Lori's delicious lasagna, and watched HGTV. It was a wonderfully relaxing day.
Sunday morning we headed out for breakfast, then stopped by a scenic overlook where the Warrior Path is. An Indian path, the Warrior Path ran from New York to the Catawba country in the Carolinas. This part of the Warrior Path is next to the Susquehannah River along Route 6 in Wyalusing. It's still dead looking out there, but it felt like spring and we saw a turkey vulture. They don't come back until it's warm. Good sign.
Back at the house we took the dogs on a walk along the creek and Mae got to see both of her beloved cats up close. This is her and Dots/Todd. The dogs were totally exhausted on the way home so no shitting in the car. Thank the Lord.
I went to Target and ShopRite on Sunday afternoon, then to shake that fresh hell from my mind I drove home with the sunroof open blaring Quiet Riot and Wham. Very current, I know. I swore I wasn't going to do food prep, but I did make egg muffins with green onion and cheese for breakfasts; brown rice, poop soup, and baked sweet potatoes for the dogs; and grilled pork chops with veggies for dinner. Other dinners are leftovers and Jenn's baked tacos. Lunches are a little hodge podge-y: soup from the freezer, leftover spaghetti and Lori's lasagna, salad. Snacks are bananas, cucumbers, celery and peanut butter, and Cadbury Creme Eggs. Tis the season, mofos.

We always have an awesome time at Lori & Jack's, and the dogs sleep hard all night and even into the next day. It allows me to eat in peace and pick up around the house without tripping over dogs.

Leap year Leap Day. Monday. Let's hope it's lucky. Is that a thing? Lucky Leap Day? It should be.

  1. ah, that looks so very relaxing and fun. I love cabins and cabin weekends. Everything about them is great but I'd really have to pin it down to the coziness factor + good food + beautiful outdoors. Sorry about your dog's bowels in the car, further convincing me that pets are cute solely as a survival mechanism. ha. "I wasn't gonna food prep..." and then you make like 5 feast worthy things, ha. Fun read as always!

  5. I hate it when dogs decide to use the car as their little box. NOT OKAY. Glad it was only a one way gift. Yay for just getting away and enjoying better weather. Hope winter is truly over.

  9. As I was reading your post I wondered to myself how a girl who spent more than half her life in Catawaba County NC had never heard of the Warrior Path then I remembered I was probably to busy learning about "the war of northern aggression".

I'm glad you had a relaxing weekend, those are the best kind!

  10. I love it when the dogs are so tired that they sleep all day. You know they had a good time that way.
This post title sounds like it could be the title of a Little House book.

Awesome relaxing and nature stuff. I love Wham! Lucky leap day it is! Tomorrow starts your birthday month and an early Easter. Bring on the Cadbury crème eggs! Off to get Lola- awake from her half hour nap! Love,Your Momma

  13. It looks like a beautiful weekend from the photos! Though you all look a lot chillier than it was here. (Though we are supposed to get more snow in like two days after a weekend of 75 degree weather...why do I live here again??)

We totally listened to Wham! Throughout the weekend too....it was just that kind of weekend!

  14. Cadbury eggs always make a day or weekend better!
I so love when I wear out the dogs. It was so nice out here yesterday, I played frisbee with Harvey for over an hour with the intent of him being OUT for the night. Totally worked nicely :)

  15. Cadbury cream eggs are my weakness! Can't avoid those. Friday night sounds a little hectic but the fun on Saturday Im sure made up for it. Sounds like a really nice weekend trip in the woods.

  16. Bacon sugar butter toast sounds like something I would like more information about! A former roommate's mom used to make homemade cream eggs and they were amazing, I've never been able to fully enjoy the Cadbury kind after eating those things.

  17. KITTIES! cadbury creme eggs are my favourite thing every year. i get so sad when they aren't available, but it's probably for the best. i am not the biggest fan of bacon - real bacon is a bit much for me, too salty i think? i don't know, something about it doesn't sit right with me (in my gut, not my head) but i like turkey bacon.. anyway, all that to say... that bacon toast looks AMAZING.

  18. Bacon sugar butter toast?! Sounds like heaven!!! What a fun weekend minus the poop in the car. So not cool doggies!!! I really am having an internal fight over getting cadbury eggs or not getting them. Basically I am going to cave next time I see them I just know it. YOLO right???

  19. I love weekends in the country because I feel like I really get the chance to unplug and relax, plus it also helps when the dogs get super worn out too! The view from The Warrior Path is so pretty, and it's always awesome to see signs of Spring!

  20. Bacon sugar butter toast?! YES please! LOL at Mae not liking the cold, she's my new spirit animal! Looks like a great weekend with friends, cheers to a great week <3

  21. I think Lucky Leap Day should definitely be a thing. Maybe a bank holiday? I don't think we have enough of those yet.

I just so happen to have a supply of creme eggs in, so this evening is only going to go one way.

  24. Standard friday night- complete with dog crap in the backseat ;) Glad things looked up from there- you also just reminded me that we're doing breakfast for dinner tonight so now I'm kinda' stoked. I'm also super mature and every time we pass the beer aisles in Kroger I feel the need to chant "big butt doppelbock"

  25. Man, that weekend sounds awesome! Well, except for the poop in car . . . my nose actually reacted to reading that. Looks like beautiful weather . . . love that the dogs got to join in the fun! Your meal prep looks full on to me . . . old habits die hard! :-)

  26. That sounds like an amazingly relaxing weekend -- even if it did require some extraordinary clean-up in the car and you ended up doing some meal prep on Sunday. I always tell myself doing stuff like that is a gift to my future self. It helps me be less whiny about it in the moment, since it really is SO nice to have it done once I get into the work week.
