It was a lot of fun. Not so fun: hauling ass to PetSmart to slip in 10 minutes before closing. I always feel like a duck doing that. Two other people came in hot to the parking lot and ran into the store behind me. A bag of dicks. I also picked up some cleaning supplies and a few groceries at Target. I poured myself into bed by 11.
Saturday morning Lori and I headed down to the shore to clean up the efficiency. Not too much damage, but we had to move most stuff out, then move all furniture and sweep/vacuum/floor mate/Odoban or bleach the floors, baseboards, and bottoms of furniture. We rewarded ourselves with Manco & Manco and Shriver's candy. Plus showers and Lee's Hoagies after hitting the grocery store.
Sunday I got my food prep done and the dishwasher was running by 10 am. I made oatmeal, poop soup, and sweet potato slices for the dogs; egg muffins with spinach and cheese for breakfast; spaghetti squash with tomatoes, olive oil, black olives and chicken for dinner and one lunch; and cauliflower fried rice for the rest of the lunches. Do you know some jokester grocery stores are selling cauliflower for $6 a head? GFY.
I busted out and went to see my Lola. I was sick before our trip so it had been a while. My lovely niece is getting big and smiley! When I got home Michelle dropped by with my little girlfriend Amelia. It was a girl power Sunday.
I did about 675 loads of towels and other shore laundry. My house has shit all over it and needs purging, but instead of doing anything productive I laid down on the couch, ate potato chips, and zoned out while watching a shitload of old episodes of The Office. Sometimes you have to say fuck it.
When I did decide to be productive, the dressing I marinated my chicken thighs in set the grill on fire. I threw the chicken in the oven and got back on the couch. Sometimes productivity does not pay. Zoning out it is. These dogs are always down to zone out.
I don't think you need to even remotely explain you're desire for a vegetative state after being in another country. Coming back from that takes a long a** time! I'm glad to hear that there is minimal damage at your shore house! That's great news. And I could watch "The Office" all day, every day. Love that show.
ReplyDeleteThe weekend after vacation is always quite productive and also one that needs some down time. I'm glad you were able to get things taken care of and also relax.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear there wasn't much damage to your place with the storm! How far is it from your house...I always wonder! xo, biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteUgggh, I too have set a small fire to the grill from a marinade. Glad you decided to high tail it back to the couch! I hate going anywhere 30 minutes before they close. I always get a little anxious, but Jason is the Last-Minute King, even though it always works out in the end...
ReplyDeleteI keep thanking the universe for minimal
ReplyDeleteDamage in OCNJ and Lori for going with you. Amelia is a sweetie. I am awaiting Lola's arrival right now. I am a lucky duck. Awesome watching the office and eating chips. Chips are it! Goddess speed for an easy week. Glad you are back!
Love. Your. Momma.
Mmm... poop soup - so delicious!
ReplyDeletePizza is always a great reward. The BEST reward, really.
I'm glad the shore house was in good shape, water damage is the worst I think.
ReplyDeleteI love beach candy stores, there's something different about the candy carried in a beach candy store!
I think you were remarkably productive post-vacation! Also, some couch time is totally necessary to avoid the post holiday blues. Do you have any jet lag?
ReplyDeleteYou did more than I did this weekend and I was not jet lagged. Your meal prep mojo always amazes me. I am pretty sure I have some form of adult ADD because I can't get shit done fast anymore lol. Happy Monday!
ReplyDeletetoday is my zone out day. i moved all my meetings to tomorrow and today, i'll be chillaxing because i deserve it after the hellish few months i've had!
ReplyDeleteand in our stores, cauliflower were $8.99. GTFO.
Glad to hear the damage was minimal!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that the damage was minimal. I met with a parent who still has a house in NJ and he was freaking out the whole time. Though he did say, "if we can get through Sandy, a little snow isn't too going to hurt." VALID. I'm with you on the last 10 minute thing... I feel like the WORST on that.... made even worse by knowing that people can get in trouble for being a couple minutes over. But... sometimes you have to do it. Employers need to quit being asshats.
ReplyDeletePizza is always a good choice. Cauliflower is going for $7.99 around these parts...luckily I don't like cauliflower so it hasn't really been affecting my life. The $4 cucumbers however are ridiculous and something I refuse to buy.
ReplyDeleteFriday night bowling sounds fun but I agree, I wouldn't want to go out if I was jet-lagged. Sounds like you were still very productive and also got some relaxation in there. Amelia is so cute!
ReplyDeleteAw, your niece is beautiful! Sounds like you had a busy weekend, and I've definitely been one of those speeding through the store 5 mins before closing before, so don't feel bad.
ReplyDeleteYou totally have to say that on some days - especially on the weekends.
ReplyDeleteI just saw where green Giant is selling cauliflower in bags already chopped up for rice or pizza crusts - all the recipes out there. Its a LOT cheaper then a head of cauliflower.
Zoning out to the office is my favorite. You got a hell of a lot done for being your first weekend back, so give yourself some slack!
ReplyDeleteYou niece is beautiful! For being jetlagegd you did a lot more than my bum did on Friday night!! Also $6USD for cauliflower sounds outrageous...
ReplyDeleteYou got so much done this weekend, I would have been on the couch, just chilling! Glad to hear that the damage was minimal.
ReplyDeleteYour niece is SO cute!!! I don't blame you on not wanting to do anything on Friday--I wouldnt have wanted to either after just getting back from vacay. Good of you to step up tho! So glad that there wasn't much damage to the shore house!
ReplyDeleteWhat's up with cauliflower? our Kroger was having a "special" on it 2/$6 which I still felt like was more expensive than normal! Love your girl power Sunday- and I'm glad to see that you are human and sometimes say eff it lol ;)
ReplyDeleteI can't believe that you were that productive on the weekend after a big trip, especially considering that you were probably still battling jet lag! Way to actually get stuff done at the shore house, but still make time for yourself to relax at home!
ReplyDeleteweekends after vacations can be really hard. you have to clean up everything else. ugh. looks like you managed to have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteAwww glad you got your Lola snuggles in, but you are a trooper for going to that work event on Friday. And love that you get the same cage-free eggs that we do. Yes I will pay several dollars more for cage-free and hormone-free eggs :)
ReplyDeleteDogs and babies. Love. And props to you for always meal planning and prepping - that's no freaking joke. Thankfully the shore house just needed a little scrubbing and no major damage!
ReplyDeleteFunny; I bowled this weekend too! Bowling is sneaky fun - I always forget until I go and have a blast. PS - obsessedddd with your dogs. Too cute.
ReplyDeleteWeekends post travel definitely call for a vegetative state. Props to you for your productivity.
ReplyDeleteWow you jump right back in! Nothing says back to reality like bowling with colleagues! Glad there wasn't too much damage at your shore house! Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the no spend month! I'm just finishing a frugality challenge and up until this past weekend, I was doing great! Then the concert ticket spending spree happened, a trip to Target happened, and I needed some things. Which led to more things.
ReplyDeleteSometimes zero productivity is called for but even still, you managed to be productive and got shit done.
The days after a trip, especially weekends, are the worst - you never want to do anything but it seems like you have a laundry list to get through! Glad you were able to unwind, at least for a little while, with the Office!

You still did have a pretty busy weekend with all that jet lag! I am glad that you guys didnt have too much damage to your shore house!
ReplyDeleteI don't think I would have been able to haul myself to the shore jet lagged. Did you have any flooding? That part of NJ got hit pretty bad right? Even Long Island got more snow than they originally predicted! The days that you can just veg out on the couch are the best!
ReplyDeleteThat's a pretty productive weekend. I always can't wait to get back to a routine.
ReplyDeleteCleaning up damage sounds like the worst...glad you had help.
oh my gosh the chicken fire. hilarious. sometimes productivity does not pay lol. potato chips + tv sounds like my kind of time.
ReplyDeleteYou were so productive post-vacation. I'm truly impressed. I can't believe it's already February.
ReplyDeleteI always try to take at least a day after vacation to unwind (which sounds crazy to some people, but it's always much needed). I didn't have that luxury after the last trip since we had so much trouble getting home. After an international vacation, though, I ALWAYS need it. It takes me at least a couple of days to get my body back on schedule.
ReplyDeleteAdorable dog and niece pictures, as always! I love her little owl hat!
Oh, and I pretty much always say "fuck it" at least once each week. I love the feeling of getting shit done, but sometimes the couch and a book (or Netflix) is calling my name ... And I just can't resist.
You totally deserved to just relax after cleaning out the efficiency. Vacation always takes it out of you. Hope you are back to normal.
