Currently...February

R E A D I N G ... Just finished an advanced reader copy of Dodgers by Bill Beverly courtesy of Netgalley and loved it. I started Animal Dreams by Barbara Kingsolver yesterday. The next Show Us Your Books is Tuesday, March 8.

L O V I N G ... that we are so close to opening the shore house again. Just a few more weeks.

B U Y I N G ... Nothing. I'm halfway through Wallet watch. Well I did buy a few souvenirs in New Orleans but that was expected. One of those was a tie dye dress. I cannot quit tie dye and I won't quit it and if you pass by me when I am an old lady in a tie dye muumuu, just nod hello and carry on.

A N N O Y E D ... That some shit is blue and I can't fix it even though I went through the HTML.

A P P R E C I A T I N G ... That the series of unfortunate events of Monday is over - MFD's car did not want to start after sitting for several days in the frozen tundra / snow all day and really slippery sidewalks left me in an unintentional lunge position in front of coworkers on the sidewalk / no scraper to be found in MFD's car, had to remove snow and ice with a fucking scarf / dog poop in the basement. The End. To be continued Tuesday morning when I slipped on black ice trying to take the trash out, put my hand out to avoid falling into the central air unit, knocked over a huge bin of recycles, and landed on the wet ground and had to change clothes. Geege is so caring, he was crying and licking my face. Gus was slip sliding around concerned with Gus, and Mae was at the back door like let me in bitches be crazy.

W O N D E R I N G ... If any of you bloggers would be interested in joining me and Sarah from My Journey of Doing in a seasonal goal link up, the spring one would likely be on Friday, March 18...non-bloggers, you'd just share some of your seasonal goals via comment or tweet or post to FB that day. Thoughts? Any interest?

L I S T E N I N G ... to San Francisco Days San Francisco Nights by Chris Isaak. It was playing in the car in The Affair and Helen was all I love this song. So do I.

F E E L I N G ... gross. I need to eat lettuce and air for a while. Just kidding but I really have to slow my roll.

FA I L I N G ... to understand people's thinking on the workings of our government. The current President is in the last year of his term, not the last five minutes. He has about 336 days left. The longest the Supreme Court has been without nine Justices is 340 days. If this goes into the next President, that record will be beat. Everyone - President, Congress, all of you - do your fucking jobs and function as the government should function. Vet and nominate a Justice and act in the best interest of this country in receiving the nomination - do not vow to shoot down anyone who is nominated. That is fucking insane and you should be fired for it. And if you support that line of thinking, I question you too. Do you want inefficiency and for things to slowly grind to a halt? Are you okay with people sitting in an elected office acting like toddlers? Are you okay when they cause a government shut down over anything? I'm not. I don't give a good shit what side of the party line you're on. Grow up and work. All of this shit makes my eyelid twitch. PLUS...as the very awesome Rachel Maddow brought up, if this election goes the way of Gore/Bush and has to go to the court, what if the vote comes down to 4 - 4 ? Anyone who went to school knows there are three branches of government to provide a checks and balances system. I do not understand how staunchly proclaimed protectors of the Constitution or you lovers of it would advocate a party that refuses to entertain nominees. I'm standing with Harry Reid on this one.

K E E P I N G ... up with my 40/40 even though I failed Monday and Tuesday. I walked for many hours on Saturday and Sunday, so I banked some time. I meant to try a new zumba class at 8:30 on Tuesday night but I have to be real with myself - that time will always be too late for me.

W R I T I N G ... up little short blogs about past events, trying to capture what I felt in the moment. I'm not sure if they'll be published, but some might be.

P L A N N I N G ... to make my own shaving cream this weekend. I said this last month too. Now I'm really out and I'm doing it. I'll report back.

Fill me in...what's going on with you this month?

  1. I would totally link up for your seasonal goal link up! Ugh, Murphy's law Monday's are the worst.

  2. Making your own shaving cream?? I'm intrigued--please share when you do! And yes, I agree with you about our government. People want to stand for one thing, until it doesn't serve them, and then they're open to interpretation. So frustrating how these people just figure out ways to hold temper tantrums instead of doing their jobs and getting things done! Gahhhh!!!

  3. 830pm class? hell no; that's way too close to old lady bedtime. i do a 630pm muay thai class and that's stretching it for me. there's no one day i ask my trainer to move it to 530pm because that's a more reasonable time for this old hag!

  4. Hope the rest of your week has been better than your Monday! Sounds brutal!! I use African Black Soap for shaving but would be interested in hearing about your DIY!! That link up sounds fun too. I can't say that I understand US politics very well at all because ours are so different but there is definitely a lot going on with you guys (Americans) right now!

  5. I cant work out after work. I come up with way too many excuses so I know would be way too late!!! That is nearly bedtime for me hahaha. Monday sounds awful, so glad it is over!!! I haven't really been on a picnic this week either, ugh! Don't even get me started on government shit right now. People are so damn ignorant about things too. It should be illegal to discuss such matters on public forums because the idiots come out in masses!!!

  6. Definitely publish the short blogs. I love writing the details of the moment. I do it with Lola everyday. Great to look back on ! Lol-ing on the unintentional lunge and the Tuesday fall. Thank Goddess you were ok. Falls are funny. Adjusting the constitution is a given with these people. Hypocrisy to the max and selfish and greedy- for power and money. If we had no laying snow, no ice, no power outages , no dangerous roads -I may like winter better. Happy February is a short month. Carpe Diem. Love. Your. Momma

  7. Yayyy for opening up shore houses and warm weather, I'm so ready for beach time.

I'm so over the political machine at this point if the rest of us worked like they did we wouldn't actually be working!

  8. YES TO SEASONAL GOAL LINK UP PLEASE YES YES YES YES.

Yay books! i feel like i'm back in my reading groove so can't wait for the next link up.

lol @ tie dye. its been a long time since i have worn tie dye.

a lunge is better than an unintentional split at least, right?

ps. saw your comment on B's blog. I can help!

  9. I do not approve of that kind of Monday after vacation. I demand a do-over. Real question though (because I'm truly interested) - how do you know it's time to open the shore house? Or what's the criteria for it being closed? I'm fascinated by these things.... #LifelongTexanbutforCalifornia I'm obviously in for the link up. ;)

  10. I'm totally intrigued by the Seasonal Goal link up!
Oh man... your Monday - its like something out of a movie where everything goes wrong. My Monday was awful too - it must have been a universal suck it Monday.

  11. omg! tie-dye!! true story, for senior year homecoming in high school (fall 2008) I had a HUGE tie-dye party at my house for my entire grade! we made tie-dye class t-shirts for the pep rally and homecoming events. we thought we were so cool, and I still have my shirt. TIE-DYE 4-EVERRRRRRR!!!

  12. Ice, ice go away. That sounds like a huge post-vacation pain. Ugh, with the Supreme Court. Toddlers is a perfect description. The whole "if I don't get my way, you don't get yours" mentality needs to stop if anything is ever going to get done.

  13. LOL @ lettuce and air. But I know what you mean especially after traveling and well especially after NOLA because the food is amazing and you can't hold back on that experience. Ugh Monday and Tuesday sound rough...hope you didn't hurt yourself too badly.

  14. Seriously, though, everyone do your job. The Supreme Court can't be without a justice for almost a year. I assume they'll issue all of their opinions that aren't 4-4, but I read that several of the Texas cases pending in the court are prob 4-4, so they'll have to rehear them again when I new justice is (finally) appointed.

  15. Is there any other job in the world where you're simply allowed to REFUSE to work? Agree 100% with our Supreme Court rant!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Making your own shaving cream? Interesting!!!! I don't even know how one would do that.

And yes about the nomination. "Obama better not appoint", wtf. He's our President for a big chunk of time. People are so insane, I honestly have trouble thinking about it.

Bummer about your Monday. Why do they always seem to be the day that this stuff happens, it really always rings true. Almost done with the work week!!!

Lol about the blue. Sometimes I get the biggest spacing in between things even though my post/HTML don't reflect that. So annoying!

  17. Part of the fun of traveling is getting little souvenirs to remember your trip by! Way to keep up with your wallet watch so far! I always feel like I need to go into detox after a vacation because of all the good food that we eat that's really bad for you.

  18. I can't even handle the controversy over the SC nominee. Have any Republicans thought through the fact that it might be a Democrat who wins? It is just so illogical and hypocritical to argue that the Constitution says we can have guns but ignore the part about nominating SC justice.

I am trying to do the 40 minutes a day...I have been trying to start for a damn week. So far, it has gone nowhere but I need to get off my ass.

  19. Always yes to goal lists. Goal list posts are some of my favorites. I'm also trying to be less intense with mine personally, so setting seasonal or quarterly rather than the 8,000 monthly goals I set might be a good idea. I'm in!

Can't agree more about the "do your fucking jobs" point. It's disgusting how forgiving this society is of the congresspeople who flat-out REFUSE TO DO WHAT THEY'RE ELECTED TO DO. Your job is to represent your people and uphold your branch of the US government. Not stamp your feet and plug your ears until the guy you don't like is out of his chair. Do your fucking job or vacate your goddamn seat if you can't. I saw a great tweet the other day—can't remember who wrote it—but it recalled the congresspeople who said before inauguration day that they just flat-out wouldn't vote in favor of Obama's side on anything. No matter what. Period. And then people complained about his inefficiency of his presidency. Please. These grown adult crybabies make me sick. Do your jobs or get out of the way of the people who can and will. Thanks for linking that Harry Reid article, was good to read.

  20. Glad the terrible mondays are over! It's terrible to have a slew of unfortunate things. Hope Feb is awesome.

  21. I'd been thinking about starting a monthly goals link-up, but most of me is too lazy to keep up with that. So YES- I'd join in if you do the seasonal goals :) I need some lettuce and air too... I am hungry ALL the freakin' time right now and I haven't exactly been choosing the healthiest of options the past couple weeks. Whoops.

    ReplyDelete
  22. haha the whole failing one. AGREED. people are going crazy. also sorry about your rough Monday.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Dayum you had a bad day! Glad its over. Spring goals? Hell yes! Election year is proving stupid huh? I am sickened by the lack of salt in this group of all those wishing to have the shitiest job on the planet!!!

  24. I read part of this post while pursuing the internet this afternoon in an attempt to stay awake during one of the many boring sessions that are being offered at the conference I'm attending this week. It took all I could not to burst out laughing at the image of a tie dye muumuu! Hilarious! Embrace the tie dye, girl! Own it, work it!

Your comments under "FAILING" are spot on. The level of idiocy in this country just simply amazes me.

  25. I've broken the wallet watch so many times already it's not even funny, but going to try to stay strong for the remainder of the month. That is a whole lot to go wrong in 24 hours! But also made me laugh because of your pugs- I could totally picture that. I admit ignorance re: the Supreme Court, but agree with you completely- just do your damn job and stop the tantrums! Also, I'd totally be in for seasonal goals!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I always do a seasonal goal cleaning list. Not as fun, but sadly very necessary! I would definitely join!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I too am a lover of tie dye! Will rock it forever!

Definitely down for seasonal goal linkups. They keep me on track!

  28. 8:30 on a Tuesday is an insane time to start a class.
Have you developed some sort of chart or calendar for keeping track of your 40/40? Crossing off a box each day helps me, because I can always double up if I miss a day.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I just can't with this SCOTUS issue. It's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard to say that a President can't do his damn job when he still has 11 months. Also, I love tie dye.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I could probably use a little goal setting for the seasons...
Good luck on the shaving cream this weekend.
Some people need to sit down and read bookS.
    XOXO

  31. I'd participate in a goals linkup! Maybe it'll help get my ass in gear and finally get things done around here. And maybe I'll add your lettuce and air diet to it! Ha! Ugh, the Scotus thing is killing me as well as republican friends who support it, saying dems would do the same thing. I seriously hope not, but these days it wouldn't surprise me.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Ugh, your Monday and Tuesday sound like the kind of days when I just want to say, "Fuck it! I'm done." Too bad we're adults and can't just spend a couple of days away from the outside world/life in general in an effort to regroup.

I think I'd be interested in a seasonal goals link-up. I always do monthly goals, but I could use that as a way to tackle some of my bigger goals that may take a little longer to achieve. There were a couple of things I wanted to add to my February goals, but thought they were too lofty for a single month (especially the shortest month of the year!). I'm now incredibly thankful that I didn't add them to my list because I've already managed to fail a couple of my goals.

Good luck sticking with your 40/40 and Wallet Watch! I agree that travel stuff/souvenirs can't be counted (I mean, you're obviously going to buy at least a couple of things while you're away from home), and also that an 8:30 p.m. gym class on a weeknight is much too late. (And this is coming from a person who often stays up well after midnight during the week even though work starts at 7:00 a.m.)

The latest classes I'll go to are at 6:30 p.m. I've considered a couple that were at 7:30 p.m., but I don't like to eat before I work out (it makes my stomach cramp like a bitch), and, even though we eat dinner really late some nights, I don't think I could justify starting meal prep at 9:00 p.m. (Or later, depending on how long it took to get home from the gym and shower.) Eric could start dinner if he didn't go to the gym with me, but we go together a lot.

  33. "I don't give a good shit what side of the party line you're on. Grow up and work." YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! Makes my blood boil.

    ReplyDelete
  34. The whole thing makes me sick hopefully they grow up and nominate someone. The zumba class is way too late and how would you fall asleep I'd be too amped up. Glad that Monday is long gone and so is most of the snow and ice.

  35. I would be really interested in the link up idea! It sounds like a great idea!
