TWTW - the one before Christmas

Dorks unite! Friday night we saw The Force Awakens with Mark and Sarah and we loved it. Just enough cheese, humor, and drama to make it really line up with the original three movies. I have zero cares for the second trilogy released. MFD saw it again on Saturday night. It was the first time I went to the movies where there were recliners and I have to say it was awesome. I don't think I've been to the movies since we saw Gatsby. Is that possible?
We stopped off at Target after, because the only time I will go to the store right now is in the dead of night. Star Wars shit was everywhere. The marketing on this re-emergence is phenomenal. And yes, of course we got that cereal. Since I told you last week what a crime scene wrapper I was, I thought I'd show you...wrapped for me by me. ho ho no, mofos. I am the worst wrapper in all the land.
I spent most of Saturday in the kitchen. Doesn't the freaking refrigerator always appear at its most grody when you don't have the time or inclination to clean it out? I had to pause and do that in the midst of food making.
Lola Jean was the most popular person at Cici & Pop's Christmas party, of course. I ate so much there I nearly popped, all the food was delicious and I wish I took a pic of the dessert spread because it was fabulous. We drove around our neighborhood looking at Christmas lights on the way home.
Saturday night I slept for over 10 hours and it was fucking amazing. Sunday morning started off slow, and I had to do some work work throughout the day, but I got on to house pickup/sheets changing/towel washing/box breaking down stuff soon enough. I also lolled around on the couch and read. It was worth it, I woke up feeling refreshed today.

Weekly food prep: egg muffins with sausage, cheese, and red peppers for breakfasts; jalapeno popper quinoa bites and cucumbers for lunch; 408 holiday sweets at work for snacks; poop soup and scrambled eggs for the dogs; spaghetti squash with red sauce (sausage in there) for dinner along with some veggie rice from the freezer. I also made a pear and cranberry gingersnap crumble from Smitten Kitchen for the party Saturday. It was good! And peanut butter blossom cookies Sunday. I don't think I baked cookies at Christmas last year which makes sense because I don't enjoy baking.
This weekend at the shore, new counters/sink/faucet went in on Friday, thanks to MFD being able to be down there. Top two left photos are the original kitchen, bottom left is after we painted the cabinets and put new hardware on, all the right photos are with new appliances/painted cabinets/new counters.
I have to say, I do love it. MFD was right about switching out the appliances. And getting rid of that one piece of brown trim is already on the spring to do list. Don't worry.

And today...well, despite the unseasonably warm temps we've been having on the east coast, it's the first day of winter. I'm hoping for minimal snow and ice like most other people who have to leave the house for work I'm sure.

How did you fare this weekend?

  1. I'm still snickering over the ho ho no and the wrapping. You are so my favorite. I can't believe the marketing for Star Wars. EVERYONE is in on this. I've never seen Yoda be such a consumer. He's endorsing everything now. Sell out. ;)

  2. I love it when people can't wrap and still do it. Just like singing it's not in the finished product to me it's the thought that counts and I'd rather a bad job than some professional service. I also love it when they have the fundraisers at stores for kids and the kids wrap it!! Loving the updated kitchen, looks great! Yep, work and snow don't mix, blah.

  3. I have finally found another terrible wrapper! Everyone is so Pinterest perfect and mine looks like a 5 year old did it (And that may be too much credit.) I always opt for gift bags because it doesn't look as terrible.

  5. I absolutely loved Star Wars too! I thought that it was definitely in line with the first three movies, and kind of made up for the second three that were just terrible! I think Disney getting the rights to the movies might have been the best thing! The shore house is looking absolutely beautiful! Y'all have done so much with it!

  6. wow! the kitchen looks amazing. and your wrapping is fabulously awful, just like mine haha.

the marketing for star wars is insane! it's everywhere. we saw it yesterday, KC is a pretty big fan. I enjoyed it (though I was a bit sad at a certain part) and was surprised at how funny it was.

  12. I made peanut butter blossom cookies this weekend too. I like the easy stuff so I can still claimed I "baked" Christmas cookies. The new kitchen looks great in the shore house!

  15. Loving the kitchen re-do! Countertops, to me, make a kitchen awesome or not.
And yes to the stores in the dead of night. That's the only time to go this week. I saw that JCP was opening at 7am on Christmas Eve. What could one possibly need that badly from JCP on Christmas Eve?

  16. love the before and after!

we're going to the VIP theaters to watch The Force Awakens because kids and screaming and stupid parents who don't control their kids. These VIP theaters is 19+ and they serve beer and food!

  17. We are headed to see Star Wars this afternoon and I'm so excited. We haven't watched a single trailer, so we know nothing. That's the way to do it :) The kitchen at the shore looks incredible.

  18. The counters look amazing at the shore house! And I may need that Chewbacca hat. I have yet to be at a theater with reclining chairs but I anxiously await the day the AMC in Hamilton replaces their chairs.

  19. Love how you have your coffee mugs hanging on the wall- so cute!

  20. I really love the new counter tops at your shore house! I'm sure I've said it before but it's amazing what you guys have done there in such a short time. My husband was so looking forward to seeing Star Wars this weekend but he ended up getting sick. He spread his germs to the rest of the house so the last part of the weekend was not very fun.

  21. I am so impressed with the work at the beach house. Again, it's more than we've done in 2+ years of living in our house.

My fridge is disgusting. DISGUSTING. Waiting until after Christmas to clean it out because where there are leftovers, there are spills.

  22. I love that shot of the countertop/sink with the coffee cups hanging. It looks straight out of a magazine! I'm also a big fan of the wall colour, bright and sunny without being blinding = perfection!

  23. The fridge thing totally bothers me too, so inconvenient. I love that we both made spaghetti squash this weekend, great minds. The shore house is looking great.

  24. I can't wait to see Star Wars! Hopefully soon!

I am a decent wrapper but my husband is better. I have no problem just tossing things in bags after I get tired!

I just cleaned out my fridge today. It was so grody looking and I know I only noticed because I was trying to fit extra stuff in there and didn't have room.

As per usual your meal prep looks amazing!

  25. I slept for about 10 hours on Saturday night as well, and it felt amazing! I almost never go to the movies anymore either, but if more theaters had those recliners I think that will change!

  26. Love the counters you guys got at the shore house!! I am going to have to pin that quinoa bite recipe, how were they? Dont get me started on the cleaning of the fridge. Ugh. I so need to do that.

  27. Can't wait to go back to the shore house. You can never go wrong with new appliances.
I am glad all the cut out cookies are finished. I love the bags for wrapping. Hallmark has a gift bag assortment that I love at Sam's every year. We give money many times, so no wrapping there! Another awesome warm week. No ice or snow to worry about during travel on Christmas Eve or Day! Hooray!
A merry and bright Christmas week to all!
    Love, Your Momma

  28. The marketing is RIDICULOUS... but if it is all that for when Beauty & the Beast comes out in 2017, I'll be one happy girl :)
Sleep for 10 hours? I'm so jealous....
    The kitchen looks AMAZING!!!

  29. What a transformation on the shore house- so much better than the before! The new counters look great!

YAY for Star Wars! So glad you enjoyed it! I haven't been to the movies in a long time either, but some movies are just better on a huge screen with theater-quality sound. Were there crazy lines and people dressed up by you?

    I need Sarah's hat.
