Currently...November

D Y I N G  O V E R ... Ingrid Thoft, author of the new series I'm into, tweeting me. Check out the Fina Ludlow books my friends! I immediately sent a text to Jana as I knew she would geek out with me.

F O R G E T T I N G ... Every freaking thing. Last Monday it was my car keys on the hood of my car. This Monday it was my train pass, which I left at work. That's why it pays to be very nice to your conductors. I rode home and back to work the next morning without my pass. Today? I forgot my phone at home.

A N N O Y E D ... That the setup process for my new iPhone6s was a total clusterfuck that took forever. FWP yo. A funny of it all was that the guy I talked to at Apple Support sounded exactly like Nick Burns except he was nice. I was like hey, sorry, don't take this wrong, but do you know Nick Burns from SNL? He was like yes, I know. I know.

A M A Z E D ...  that Thanksgiving is a week from today. Say what now?

W O N D E R I N G ... When everyone started drawing a line in the sand / when the general tone became one of condescension / when we stopped being able to disagree respectfully / when we were more concerned about being right than having an open dialogue / when we became an expert on who is and who isn't a terrorist / when we became unable to distinguish between Muslims or Syrians or whoever else in the Middle East that are running from terrorists versus the actual members of the terrorist organizations.
Every religion has had a loon pop up five to 50 times over the course of history, claiming their work is God's work and the people they're trying to destroy are heathens. It does not mean that everyone who looks like a Muslim is a terrorist. Are some of them? Absolutely. Just like some people that look like us are terrorists. One of our most well known domestic terrorists looks a lot like about 50 people I know. I'm not going to stop associating with those people or say I don't care about them and if they die and try to push them out because they look like a terrorist. I'm not saying don't be afraid or don't take action...but I am saying try not to react from a place of fear.

R E F U S I N G ... to lose my humanity and give in to xenophobia. That is not the American way and if we allow terrorists to change the fabric of our nation, then what's left to defend? We are more than land and people - we are an ideal. Americans are not cowards or overly cautious - we are fierce and bold and we step in to help those who can't help themselves but above all else we protect what is ours. I don't care if you hate the President. Good for you and I hope you thank God for the freedom you have to openly hate your President. But I also hope you don't forget what this country is about and how it was born and built and why it has succeeded - on the backs of immigrants that are a generation or three above you. Some of nationalities that were at various times considered dangerous, unseemly, and overall unwelcome (Irish need not apply, how can a Catholic be president the country will be ruined, etc etc). How different things would be today...some of us might find ourselves banging on the golden door now begging to be let in.

D E V O U R I N G ... The newest Tawni O'Dell novel, Angels Burning. I really loved Backroads by her so when I saw this I jumped on it. I'm glad I did. This is one I just want to toss life aside for and finish. And I did, on the train this morning.

C O O K I N G ... For the freezer. I made breakfast burritos on Sunday. Monday night was power breakfast muffins

T O G G L I N G  ... back and forth between shore house things and general life things. Something's bound to slip through the cracks. We're reaching the end of the dining room table looking like this though, packed with stuff that needs to go down to the shore house. We can't have it delivered there, so it all comes to our house to be transported. We also have linens that needed to be washed and stuff we're taking from our own house, etc. etc.

O B S E S S E D   W I T H ... The Random Crap bag above that holds a ton of stuff and these socks, both from ModCloth. I have other pug socks from ModCloth too. I had to have these seasonal babies.

F E E L I N G ... like I've finally got the hang of the time change. I said to myself, Self...it's going to be dark most of the time for many months. Get over it. And I have. My productivity is up at night again and I don't feel like I want to sleep all the time.

P H O T O G R A P H I N G ... my dogs. Duh.

L A U G H I N G   A T ... this. I love your mom jokes.

I don't know why text is randomly blue, I've changed it like five times and it keeps coming back. No desire to comb through code to find out why so...multi-colored thoughts!

Fill me in...what's going on with you this month?

  1. It's so hard to be at work and then at 4:00 PM look outside and it's already dark, but like you said once you get home still being productive is the best! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  2. Those pug socks are super cute! That series also sounds awesome & so cool that you heard from the author - I'm going to add it to Goodreads!!

  3. I'm glad that you were able to get nice conductors that let you ride without your pass. Win!
I'm with you on drawing lines in the sand, and thinking that one radical group equates to an entire religion. It's nonsensical!
Love the trampoline one--always makes me laugh! :)

  4. those pug socks!! how cute.

totally agree about the rage when the public slaps the "terrorist" label on all muslims/people of colour/different race/religion etc etc. get your head out of your ass people; there are crazies out there but that doesn't make us all crazy.

  5. I have been wondering the saaaaaaaaaaaaaame thing(s). You hit the nail on the head on so many points. I feel like I could go on and on about this topic. It's confusing/terrifying/frustrating/heartbreaking.
I'm finally starting to get used to the time change, too. I don't think it's ever taken me this long. I love the lighting difference though... now it's light when I leave AND when I come home. Can't beat that! :)

  6. I am forgetting EVERYTHING too, lately! It so so super crazy and ridiculous!

I find that people LOVE to tell other people what to think and how to live and use the bad to make their point. So frustrating!

  7. I usually have a really good memory, but lately I need to write things down as soon as they pop up otherwise I don't remember until three days late.r

  8. Omg.... dying. i love "your mom" jokes too... stealing that for IG. I need like 10 of those random crap bags. I saw a pug t-shirt at Walmart in the little girls section and I immediately thought of you. I tried to convince Ava to get it and she was like "No Mom". Apparently it wasn't cool enough lol

  9. I knew you were going to nail it with your border talk today. Well done. This whole "let's close the borders and the problems will go away" talk is bananas. How about every school shooter who has been a suburban white kid from the US? How are we going to solve that?

Anyway, on to lighter things. I love the socks and may have to purchase the bag for a Christmas gift. Checking that out now...

  10. My running hero on Instagram leaves me messages every once in a while and visits my page and likes a bunch of pics and every time I lose my mind! Its such a cool feeling to have someone you admire acknowledge you.

Also I forgot my kid was not in the car with me and almost pulled into daycare. I wonder when I would have realized that he wasnt in the car with me if I had pulled in? But I am blaming pregnancy brain.. the struggle is real!

  11. Amen on the stereotype situation that is crazy. There but for the grace of God and the universe go we! Lucky we were born in the USA ! Lucky we never nerve public assistance, etc. lights and Angels to all!
    Love. Your. Momma.

  12. Those socks are the shit!!! So is that your mom joke, obviously. I have been wondering all of those things as well. Sometimes, I wish we could turn back about 10 years or so. Things seemed less ridiculous then. Or maybe that is just my imagination?

  13. What was up with the iPhone 6s debacle? Our power/internet/cable was out for a few days because of a storm and I welcomed the break from social media because it makes me hate people. I love getting tweets from celebs! The guy who played Toofer on 30 Rock started following me this morning. What?! Random, but I'll take it!

  14. Those doggie pics are adorable! And I want to say THANK YOU to everyone generalizing muslims and terrorists. I may have to steal that pic of the KKK idiots also not being a representation of a religion. It breaks my heart how ignorant people can be in such a horrible time :(

  15. But really, HOW are we just a week out from Thanksgiving?! As always, can't get enough of your pug socks.

    ReplyDelete
  16. My grandma called me over the weekend to let me know Thanksgiving plans and I was thinking she was really ahead of the game. Nope, Thanksgiving is in exactly a week somehow, ha! The random crap bag is fantastic, as are those socks.

  17. haha... trampoline!! That's awesome... & yes, it took me a few seconds to get it. Yikes.
I hate when i cant remember things in a random series - makes me feel like I'm loosing my mind!!!

  18. I need to own Bichon socks. I am also jealous of your Random Crap bag (HAHAHAHAHAHAHA to the way that sounds).

The xenophobia. I'm over it, and it's so rampant right now. The sheer blind ignorance makes me crazy and the other day, while waiting to get the child from school, one of the teachers tried to start that type of conversation with me. Nope. Not having it. Not to mention my concern that someone who feels that way is teaching in a public school.

  19. Every time I look at a Calendar I'm so amazed how close to the end of the year we are. How did this happen?! I love when celebrities tweet you. It's so exciting.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I always geek out when an author tweets me back. I'll have to look at the series. Extremists are just that, extremist. They don't speak for the whole of their group. Love the pug socks!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Love this and especially agree about all your points on what's going on in the world right now. Like this: "W O N D E R I N G ... When everyone started drawing a line in the sand / when the general tone became one of condescension / when we stopped being able to disagree respectfully / when we were more concerned about being right than having an open dialogue / when we became an expert on who is and who isn't a terrorist / when we became unable to distinguish between Muslims or Syrians or whoever else in the Middle East that are running from terrorists versus the actual members of the terrorist organizations."

I wish I could print this out and distribute it to everyone I know. The negativity, vitriol and overall NONSENSE I'm seeing on social media right now is gross.

On a happier note, I love those pug socks. I have a pair with pugs that says BAH HUM PUG & I love them <3

  22. Clapping. Well said!!!!! Facebook this week has been extremely horrible to be on and I'm so proud of myself for not posting any rebuttal statuses of my own, lol. Because it has taken some self-control!!!

Random Crap bag is so perfect. I love your little meatball pugs all in a row and making breakfast burritos sounds like a wonderful idea.

I bet it's hard to go between shore house and regular life. I'd be so excited about the new digs as well. Just ask your boss for like a month off to go work on the house while not using PTO and still getting paid and really dig-in to finishing it ;) . That's what I always think about when I'm really excited about something and just want to devote all my attention to it until it's done! :) So far no bosses have agreed, how rude!

  23. The refugee picture you have is one that I pulled off facebook to share with my sister in law. We've had some awesome fact sharing back and forth recently. I can't even scroll through most posts because they just horrify me. I'm sticking with the golden rule - it's always worked for me. Respect, love, kindness.

Also, the dark afternoons suck, but I'm getting used to it too. It helps me go to sleep earlier because 8 PM feels like 10 PM.

  24. Loving your socks AND MFD passed out with the dogs. Moments like those make my heart happy. I caught Jeff the other night whispering into the dogs ears and slipping them a small piece of cheese. I got caught and he had the biggest smile on his face.

Do you guys get ticketed or can you for forgetting your pass/forgetting to swipe? They do random checks here and can fine you somewhere around the $110-150 range. It's steep!

    ReplyDelete
  25. That's nice that the train conductor let you ride back and forth to work without a pass. Those socks are the cutest!

  26. First of all the flat out ignorance and hatred I see from some fellow Americans is disgusting, this is not what I grew up believing America is about. Sometimes I feel like we've forgotten every single part of our history and we should all be required to take a history refresher class once we hit 30.

I'm over time change this year too, usually I whine and complain about it long into December but this year I hardly even notice.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Hear, hear (or is it here, here?) Steph. As always, well said and I wholeheartedly agree. I'm not going to let blind hatred rob me of my humanity and compassion for people who are different from me. I always make the comparison about clergymen who've been found guilty of child molestation and sexual assault, but the Klan argument drives the point home even better. I have a lot of gratitude for the politicians and talking heads who are arguing that to close borders to refugees would be against our responsibility and entirely un-American, considering religious persecution is what brought our founding fathers here anyway. And listen, I know the FBI and CIA and NSA don't always get it all right, but they know and do a hell of a lot better than armchair legislators with barbarically uninformed notions about how to protect our country and innocent people around the world.

    Oh and hey, great socks.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Oh my, I love the "We're not taking refugees" picture! And sometimes Septa conductors can be the most awesome. I remember one time in college there was such a large group heading downtown that they told us to just stay in one car and we didn't have to buy tickets. Score.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Seriously, where did this year go? I can't believe that thanksgiving is next week, although that does mean that I get to listen to Christmas music soon! And those pug socks are too cute! I would be wearing them all season long!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh my God, YES. This is exactly what I meant when I emailed you about the posts on Facebook that I found completely disgusting! I just can't wrap my mind around the fact that so many people think it's okay to lump entire religions, ethnic groups, etc. into one category because of the actions of a few. There are good and bad people of all religions and ethnicities, yet somehow some people seem to forget that because it's just "easier" (I guess?) to live in fear and ignorance. (Not to mention the fact that many people also seem to forget that their ancestors were likely immigrants coming to America in search of freedom and a better life.)

But ... On to happier things that don't make my blood boil. I can only take so much of that!

I love the socks and the Random Crap bag. When I first saw the bag I thought that you had added the wording using a photo editor. Then I read on and realized that no, it actually DOES say that. Haha.

And I love that an author you like tweeted you! I think I need to start following some of my favorite authors, musicians, etc. on social media (and maybe sign up for a Twitter account).

  31. How do you like the new phone? I'm eligible for an upgrade. I have a 5C right now.

Eh, I'm trying to ignore the political stuff online. It's all over FB and all of a sudden people who never said a word (typed a word?) about anything, have a link posted every hour and are the authority on the subject.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I totally respect your opinion but it's so hard NOT to act out of fear right now. It's a very scary situation we are in

    ReplyDelete
  33. I am now picturing the pugs with antlers... and I LIKE IT. Particularly because I can also picture the look of contempt that Mae will hold for you. As always, I love your tolerance and love for humanity... NICE POINT ON Christians vs. Muslims especially. My dad would have liked you. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Could not agree more with you political thoughts. I want so much to post it on Facebook, but I'm resisting.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Love that trampoline joke! Also, too funny that I saw that Random Crap bag and thought "I LOVE that" and then scrolled down to your obsessed with statement.

    ReplyDelete
  36. OMG it took me a while to figure out the mom joke. I wish I could say it's Monday or something I am apparently just slow on the jokes as usual. I wish they had beagle socks like that sooo cute!

    ReplyDelete
  37. The Random Crap bag is hilarious! And the dogs socks are so cute!!! Totally agree with ya "wondering" and "refusing" parts. For a country that says it's so open-minded, it sure is close-minded on many things. Humans. Can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I love when you lay some smack down truthing down on your blog. Down. It just felt like I needed to say down again. But as always, your words speak perfectly on behalf of the rest of us rational, compassionate humans.

I'm about to switch contracts to finally get on Justin's plan and will probably be upgrading and I am dreaaaaading it. This is how I know I am getting old...I'm not excited about a new phone!

Can you dress G&G up like the pugs on your socks? Mae can be Santa!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Need those pug socks! And yes to everything about the refugees, immigration. etc. It's a little crazy how divided the country has become, but you're right - above all, people should be thankful for the freedom that they're allowed to say whatever (dumb) thing they want.

    ReplyDelete
  40. oh my gosh i love basically everything at modcloth. those socks are adorable.
love everything you said about terrorism and racism. it's like that quote about the drop in the ocean, one drop does not make the whole ocean bad.
