F O R G E T T I N G ... Every freaking thing. Last Monday it was my car keys on the hood of my car. This Monday it was my train pass, which I left at work. That's why it pays to be very nice to your conductors. I rode home and back to work the next morning without my pass. Today? I forgot my phone at home.
A N N O Y E D ... That the setup process for my new iPhone6s was a total clusterfuck that took forever. FWP yo. A funny of it all was that the guy I talked to at Apple Support sounded exactly like Nick Burns except he was nice. I was like hey, sorry, don't take this wrong, but do you know Nick Burns from SNL? He was like yes, I know. I know.
A M A Z E D ... that Thanksgiving is a week from today. Say what now?
W O N D E R I N G ... When everyone started drawing a line in the sand / when the general tone became one of condescension / when we stopped being able to disagree respectfully / when we were more concerned about being right than having an open dialogue / when we became an expert on who is and who isn't a terrorist / when we became unable to distinguish between Muslims or Syrians or whoever else in the Middle East that are running from terrorists versus the actual members of the terrorist organizations.
R E F U S I N G ... to lose my humanity and give in to xenophobia. That is not the American way and if we allow terrorists to change the fabric of our nation, then what's left to defend? We are more than land and people - we are an ideal. Americans are not cowards or overly cautious - we are fierce and bold and we step in to help those who can't help themselves but above all else we protect what is ours. I don't care if you hate the President. Good for you and I hope you thank God for the freedom you have to openly hate your President. But I also hope you don't forget what this country is about and how it was born and built and why it has succeeded - on the backs of immigrants that are a generation or three above you. Some of nationalities that were at various times considered dangerous, unseemly, and overall unwelcome (Irish need not apply, how can a Catholic be president the country will be ruined, etc etc). How different things would be today...some of us might find ourselves banging on the golden door now begging to be let in.
D E V O U R I N G ... The newest Tawni O'Dell novel, Angels Burning. I really loved Backroads by her so when I saw this I jumped on it. I'm glad I did. This is one I just want to toss life aside for and finish. And I did, on the train this morning.
C O O K I N G ... For the freezer. I made breakfast burritos on Sunday. Monday night was power breakfast muffins.
F E E L I N G ... like I've finally got the hang of the time change. I said to myself, Self...it's going to be dark most of the time for many months. Get over it. And I have. My productivity is up at night again and I don't feel like I want to sleep all the time.

I have been wondering the saaaaaaaaaaaaaame thing(s). You hit the nail on the head on so many points. I feel like I could go on and on about this topic. It's confusing/terrifying/frustrating/heartbreaking.
ReplyDeleteI'm finally starting to get used to the time change, too. I don't think it's ever taken me this long. I love the lighting difference though... now it's light when I leave AND when I come home. Can't beat that! :)

My running hero on Instagram leaves me messages every once in a while and visits my page and likes a bunch of pics and every time I lose my mind! Its such a cool feeling to have someone you admire acknowledge you.

I love getting tweets from celebs! The guy who played Toofer on 30 Rock started following me this morning. What?! Random, but I'll take it!

The sheer blind ignorance makes me crazy and the other day, while waiting to get the child from school, one of the teachers tried to start that type of conversation with me. Nope. Not having it. Not to mention my concern that someone who feels that way is teaching in a public school.

I bet it's hard to go between shore house and regular life. I'd be so excited about the new digs as well. Just ask your boss for like a month off to go work on the house while not using PTO and still getting paid and really dig-in to finishing it ;) . That's what I always think about when I'm really excited about something and just want to devote all my attention to it until it's done! :) So far no bosses have agreed, how rude!
The refugee picture you have is one that I pulled off facebook to share with my sister in law. We've had some awesome fact sharing back and forth recently. I can't even scroll through most posts because they just horrify me. I'm sticking with the golden rule - it's always worked for me. Respect, love, kindness.

Loving your socks AND MFD passed out with the dogs. Moments like those make my heart happy. I caught Jeff the other night whispering into the dogs ears and slipping them a small piece of cheese. I got caught and he had the biggest smile on his face.
ReplyDeleteDo you guys get ticketed or can you for forgetting your pass/forgetting to swipe? They do random checks here and can fine you somewhere around the $110-150 range. It's steep!

Sometimes I feel like we've forgotten every single part of our history and we should all be required to take a history refresher class once we hit 30.

Hear, hear (or is it here, here?) Steph. As always, well said and I wholeheartedly agree. I'm not going to let blind hatred rob me of my humanity and compassion for people who are different from me. I always make the comparison about clergymen who've been found guilty of child molestation and sexual assault, but the Klan argument drives the point home even better. I have a lot of gratitude for the politicians and talking heads who are arguing that to close borders to refugees would be against our responsibility and entirely un-American, considering religious persecution is what brought our founding fathers here anyway. And listen, I know the FBI and CIA and NSA don't always get it all right, but they know and do a hell of a lot better than armchair legislators with barbarically uninformed notions about how to protect our country and innocent people around the world.

I just can't wrap my mind around the fact that so many people think it's okay to lump entire religions, ethnic groups, etc. into one category because of the actions of a few. There are good and bad people of all religions and ethnicities, yet somehow some people seem to forget that because it's just "easier" (I guess?) to live in fear and ignorance. (Not to mention the fact that many people also seem to forget that their ancestors were likely immigrants coming to America in search of freedom and a better life.)
