TWTW - the one with the baby stuff

Did you guys hear the angels singing on Friday morning to herald the arrival of my niece Lola Jean? She's pretty and snuggly and precious and all around too perfect for social media. MFD and I rushed off to see her Friday night after work.
Since Lola's Friday arrival was likely, I moved my grocery delivery from Friday night to 6 a.m. Saturday morning. Why is Peapod always late except when I schedule a 6 a.m. delivery? Since I was up I went to see my niece again for some one on one time, picked up the dogs' Halloween costumes at Target, and came home to do some food prep - a double batch of power breakfast muffins and chicken bacon rice soup for Saturday dinner and this week's lunches. I also made a cherry pie. Hashtag not a baker.
I started a new book and we watched Cowspiracy on Netflix. At first I thought it was another one of MFD's bizarre television programs but it turned out to be really interesting and thought provoking.
I did not want to get up Sunday morning, but alas there was adulting to be done. I made a triple batch of turkey burgers with spinach and goat cheese and hard boiled eggs. This week's breakfasts are multi-grain english muffins with PB and a hard boiled egg for breakfasts; soup and carrots for lunch; apples for snacks; turkey tenderloin with steamed asparagus and mashed sweet potatoes and salads for dinners.
Michelle's baby shower was in the afternoon, it was a lovely day with fun ladies and good food and a little bib painting. Debbie's bib makes me laugh as it was supposed to be poop happens but spacing didn't happen and it became poop happy complete with emoji. I can't wait to meet Michelle & Bob's little girl!
After that I took some of the power breakfast muffins and turkey burgers over to Stephen & Aubrey's to kiss on my niece for a few minutes.
And of course, these three...they would not go outside in Friday's monsoons. Mae was a grouch all weekend because she was cold, Gus was pissed because I wouldn't let him eat the candy for Michelle's shower, and Geege was his best boy self as always.

Saturday I shared another day of our road trip, Little Bighorn and the Beartooth Highway. Click here if you missed that.

Tomorrow I'm going to attempt to chronicle Yellowstone. Today I'm wishing the fabulous Aunt Carrie a very happy birthday.

Meanwhile back at the ranch more than half of what I wanted to get done this weekend remains not done. I could use another weekend day. How about you?

Tell me something good about your weekend!

  1. What did you think of Cowspiracy? Another friend of mine saw it and became a vegan. I have seen many in that genre, but have waited on this one. I laughed out loud with #notabaker. Good effort though! Have a great day!

    1. I am a baker and the closest I come to a pie is one that makes it's own crust or crustless- like Bisquick's Easy Bake Apple Pie.
Plus pie crusts are really calorie-laden!!

  3. Lovely and LOL- poop is happy in many cases- better out than in! What a happy and wonderful 3 days. Stephen told Sean it is "magical" having the baby- which is music to my ears! It's also magic how they will be able to be sleep deprived and still keep going. Aubrey did an awesome job and Stephen is an awesome father and husband. God and Goddess speed to all. She's a sweetie, that's for sure!!! And on the cows- every time I look into the eyes of an animal that we do eat, I feel bad. I could never eat any animal I knew- like if I lived on a farm. Time for a change!!! Happy and safe and sound Monday to all! Love, Your Momma

  7. Ohhh it's so nice that your niece is so close! I bet Aunt Steph will be a very willing babysitter at some point (I waited til mine were out of diapers - we all have our things). Love the change to poop happy - it totally works. And I was all ready for show us your books tomorrow but now see I'm a week off so yay for time to actually read more and have more to write about. Hmmm, something happy this weekend - we skipped out on eating BBQ to go antiquing and I found a small cabinet to replace a wall shelf that broke a few months ago. I'm unreasonably happy about this development.

  8. Oh, this reminds me! I'm going to try out your breakfast sandwich and peanut butter energy bite recipes tonight. I didn't manage to squeeze food prep in yesterday, but it is happening this week!!! (Unlike last week. Last week was a mess.) Now to search through your blog until I find them again (bookmarking, what's that?).

  9. Oh gosh... that documentary - I wouldn't be able to handle it - I'm already a vegetarian & the issue of meat eating just literally makes me sick...

I love the bib painting idea. How creative!

Did you smell the baby :) I always say I inhale youth when I hold a newborn :)

  17. The hugest of MAZEL TOVs on your niece!!!

The rain. Good god, the rain. I am thrilled it finally stopped because now maybe my grass can dry and the dogs can go in the backyard without acting like we're sending them to a torture chamber.

I was a huge waste of space this weekend. Blame it on the rain (sing it like Milli Vanilli. Seriously).

  18. Aww congrats on the baby news! Newborns are my favorite! Your pie is too funny. Seriously though it hardly matters what home made baked goods look like!!

  19. I'm pretty sure I could always use another weekend day. Yay for the newest addition to the family! Also, if I ever been to a baby shower where I could paint a bib, they would have been much more enjoyable. Love the "Doyles Rule" one!

  23. Aw congratulations on your new niece! I love her name too! That poop happy bib is hysterical. We had my daughter's birthday party this weekend and it wiped me out. It was just our immediate family and my two best friends but it's always so much work throwing a party. I thought I would save money by cooking some of the food, which I did, but it was freaking exhausting!! I'm glad I have a whole year till the next party!

  24. Lola Jean is a fantabulous name! Nieces are pretty fantabulous too :)

  30. I have no good weekend stories that don't involved rain or flood water.

I love babies especially other people's babies, snuggle them and give them back!

  31. Congrats Aunt Steph!!!!! She is beautiful :) Cowspiracy sounds interesting, I will have to check it out. What are the doggies going to be for Halloween? Sounds like Geege deserves an extra treat.

  34. Congratulations again on your niece!

And so many things about this post are amazing:

    - The pie (I've never attempted to make my own pie crust, but I imagine it would look much worse. I love that you shared the picture even though it wasn't "Pinterest perfect!")

    - The "Poop Happy" bib LOL

    - The Queen Bee hoodie (So cute!)

  35. I've never heard of peapod! I always wonder if I should look into grocery delivery.

Cow documentaries make me sad. I'm assuming it's regarding our consumption of them. I don't eat that much red meat but it still tugs my heart strings.

And lastly CONGRATULATIONS Auntie!!! So, so, so exciting!!!
