TWTW - the one where I accidentally did nothing

Friday I coughed all over the office, LYSOL'd it up before leaving, and took to the couch where I was given zero personal space.
Saturday I was up before 7 because MFD left for hiking before then. I got busy in the kitchen with food prep. I made a double batch of veggie beef barley soup for lunches this week, to take to Stephen & Aubrey, and to freeze; six pounds of pulled pork - some for the week and some to freeze; two veggie rice platters to freeze; egg muffins for breakfast this week; Kristin's pumpkin chocolate chip cookies; and mac and cheese from scratch. We have some busy weekends coming up so I wanted to get some freezer cooking in.
I did leave my house for 15 minutes to get my $5 flowers for the week from Produce Junction and some Sweet Baby Ray's. In those 15 minutes, I encountered at least 15 assholes, so I went home immediately. At one point I was like wait, am I the asshole? But I wasn't. I was wearing borderline pajamas though. Blame it on the cold medicine.
Otherwise I sat on my ass, painted my nails (OPI Significant Other Color), read magazines and a sluggish book, and tried to rest. I'm not that good at forced rest. I could take a lesson from my dogs. MFD was out all day hiking Hawk Mountain then at the Temple game with friends. I enjoyed the silence...except when he came home with a six person tent from Cabela's. We don't camp.
Sunday I had to jumpstart my slow, cold-addled ass to meet my knottie girls AEB and Alicia for breakfast at The Hattery in Doylestown. I loved the decor and the menu and of course the time with my ladies. I had the deviled eggs and the Daffy Cristo, which is Canadian bacon, sliced duck breast, and gruyere on cinnamon egg battered brioche over blackberry puree.
I attempted HomeGoods on the way home but frankly couldn't stand up anymore, and thought I fell in a hole in the street but nope...my shoe just flat out broke in half. With that, I decided to retreat from life for the rest of Sunday, watching Revenge of the Nerds, Birdman, and Johnny Dangerously.

Weekends when you're besieged by a cold just aren't terribly interesting, are they?

  1. I am so jealous of all the meal prep you did - dreading going grocery shopping today because I was too tired yesterday lol! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  2. I wish that I could meal prep like you! I am lucky if I manage to even pack a lunch before I leave for work -- it's bad. Sounds like you still had a good weekend even with your shoe breaking and having a cold! That food all looks SO delicious.

  3. Sorry you were under the weather, but I laughed at the tent...of course he came home with a 6 person tent. Why not? Good to have around, in case you ever decide to camp. Feel better!

  4. I hope you're feeling better! Also, the Daffy Cristo sounds amazing

  5. Booooooo on the cold. I hope the tent conversation ends up on Shit MFD Says soon. LOL Love those flowers. Produce Junction is where it's at. So much better than the same old flowers... and so cheap!!

  6. Looks like the universe was really telling you to take it easy! :) Hope you feel better soon!

Also, I think M is MFD's long-lost brother. My fool husband also came home with a 6 person tent this weekend. And while we do camp...we already have two tents. UGH.

  7. That was some serious food prep for being sick. Hope you start to feel better soon. I know how frustrating that can be.

  8. How'd the cookies turn out? That soup sounds really good. I also find it true that difficult people are everywhere when you're sick. Hope you're better today!

  9. Laughing at MFD's tent purchase. Can't believe he didn't find a groupon for one. Fifteen assholes is about 14 more than I can handle while sick. Hope you feel better soon!

  10. Best weekend recounting ever! Your lap looks just like mine, pet covered. The fact that you still cooked (so much!) in your mucus addled state is remarkable. Broken shoe/fell in a hole.... hahahahahahahahaha!

    But mostly - THAT BREAKFAST!!!!!

  12. I hope you're feeling better!

I had girl time on Sunday too, much needed and well worth the freezing cold temps at the park.

  13. I did not enjoy Birdman, but that French toast looks fabulous. Feel better soon, Snotty!

  14. Oh yum, pumpkin chocolate cookies! I 'm clicking over to that recipe next. I want to finally make something with pumpkin. It's obligatory! On Sunday I did a 5K that I signed up for a while ago. It was so cold that I almost didn't go but I didn't want to flake out on my friend. I just wanted to stay on my warm couch and finish Fangirl (which I did last night).

  15. For a gal who claims she accidentally did nothing, you sure did a lot of things! I'm in love with all the new metallic/glittery gold house things from Home Goods/TJ Maxx, etc....Did you purchase that wall art? My fuzzies looked just like your fuzzies, doing nothing and invading all my personal space in the process. I'm stoked to see you next week and will hopefully be a part of next week's TWTW!!! <3

  16. Hope you are feeling better. I love going to TJ Maxx and Homegoods. I went to both this weekend and both were so packed that I just left. I can't shop when a store is that crowded. You did a great job with all the food prep despite being sick. That is really impressive. When I'm sick, I like to do nothing. haha

  17. Hope you are feeling better, lady! Glad you were able to get some rest, but man were you a whiz in the kitchen. All of the food looks amazing, great job getting everything done :)!

I need that Daffy Cristo, oh my goodness do I need it. Duck anything is my favorite.

  18. What a great sister you are! Soup for the new parents is much appreciated, I am sure. I am taking banana bread. I may make chicken noodle soup, too- I could bring that to you! LOL on the movies that you watched. JMJ on the tent that sleeps six. I need to get some of those $5 produce junction beauties. Glad you hooked up with the Knotties.
Glad you rested and those furry kids just love to comfort and be near their Mom!
Continued healing lights and all good and positive things for this week!
    Love, Your Momma

  19. ah, I feel you!!!! I was sick last week too and took to the couch and snuggled my dog all day. I was kissing him so much wihle I was sick I had to stop and google if I could get him sick, eeks. I'm disgusting. lol. your weekend looks perfectly slow-paced and wonderful, great for the cold weather.

  20. Feel better lady! At least you got a ton of meal prep done, that always feels like you accomplished something right? Every now and then a weekend to do nothing and rest is the best medicine you can find.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Ugh, I know the feeling. I was in a similar, though much less productive, sicky state about 2 weeks ago. I feel a "shit mfd said" convo coming from his tent purchase haha. Hope you feel better soon!

  22. The tent is making me LOL.

When I'm sick and don't want to leave the house but feel the need to do something, I prefer to cook but the husband yells at me to get away from food because he freaks out with me breathing on it. So I take to the couch and listen to him bitch and also watch him make a huge mess as he is prone to do. Then I return to whatever book I was reading and tune his shit out.

I do love that you made food for your brother and sister-in-law. That's probably helping them more than anything.

  23. Super jealous of your relaxing weekend, and all that food prep is seriously on point! *Hugs* hope you feel better soon <3

  24. I keep reading more posts today about colds... tis the season I guess - YIKES!

  25. Sometimes life forces you to take a rest, nothing wrong with that!! You were a cooking fiend on Saturday, weren't you?! I love how Mae took advantage of belly rubs on the couch. Priorities in her life. Your brunch sounds like heaven!!! For whatever reason, I only have deviled eggs on holidays and that is a damn shame. Love that quote you found at HomeGoods! Hope you feel better, friend!

  26. I bet your children were thrilled to pile on Mommy for some couch time. Isn't it quite the life? Lounging or sleeping all day, every day.

Hope you're feeling better or feel better soon, hun

  27. It sucks to be sick! At least you got out of the house. And your meal prep always amazes me. Such dedication.

  28. oh my goodness, i have broken a shoe while walking before, it is such a weird disorienting feeling. hope you are feeling better soon, gross! and with pets, what is personal space?! i can't remember if it was that soup or another veggie soup (for the soul?) recipe on your blog that i made SO much of last year, it was amazing. i don't think i made that barley one, i will have to try it. and mac and cheese yummmm. i am so addicted to that stuff, after finally discovering it. yum.

  29. Hope you feeling nice and rested up. Weekends like this are much needed especially since you've been on the go nonstop. Took a chuckle at MFD showing up with a tent. What did he say was the reason for the purchase? Breakfast with the girls sounds like a good time catching up. I also want your mac and cheese recipe. I've never made it from scratch..

  30. I hope you're feeling better today! Those flowers are gorgeous & deviled eggs are a weakness for me. I love them so much...especially since discovering bacon jalapeno ones.

  31. You are one productive bee-yatch for being sick. I got zero accomplished in the world of productivity. Wait. I take that back. I watched two movies from my fall film challenge that I'm behind the pack. American Sniper (good), Foxcatcher (not good). Can't wait to hear what MFD said about that 6 person tent in the next Shit that MFD Says.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Soup sounds SO good right now!!! I love it year round but there's just something about eating a hot bowl on a cold day in comfy clothes! :)
LOLOLOL... what is the reasoning behind the tent???

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hey sometimes you just have to have weekends like this! But I'm impressed with how much you did get done for being sick. Your nothing is my good day on average!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I can't believe you did all of that while being sick and your shoe?! Kick you when you're down, life. LOL'd when you questioned whether you were the asshole...I've thought that a time or two but really we're just surrounded by them. Hope you're feeling better and kicking the cold in the booty!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Still so productive with your food prep! Ugh I'm so jealous.

Love that nail polish color. I think I need it.

You for sure were not the asshole as people suck in general lately.

    Feel better soon, colds suck!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I feel like you had a very productive weekend despite feeling sick. When I'm sick (and, who are we kidding, even sometimes when I'm not), I'm not nearly that productive!

Your food prep reminds me that I need to make some pumpkin chocolate chip cookies soon. I made some last year, and they were damn good.

LOL at the 6 person tent! Maybe he was inspired to enjoy the great outdoors after your recent travels?

I can't believe your shoe just broke in half! That's definitely just the kind of thing to make a person say, "Fuck it. I'm not doing anything else for at least the rest of the day."

Hope you're feeling better! (You may have addressed this already, but, as you can see, I'm just now catching up on my blog reading.)
