Things I'm not doing

Decorating for Halloween, or even fall...aside from a flag out front and candles inside, things are status quo here. I just don't feel like it this year and that's okay.

Switching to hot coffee 100% of the time - I love iced and continue to drink it all year. I will drink hot more now than I did in the summer, which was never unless I was at a restaurant.

Drinking pumpkin spice lattes. Too sweet. I usually don't put sugar in my regular coffee.

Watching scary movies or The Great Pumpkin. Charlie Brown is a weinerwhistle who grates on my nerves.

Buying any more scarves. I love them but I rarely wear them.

Snap chatting. I don't have the time or inclination for another social media thing and honestly? It seems like a teenager thing. Says the person who laughs at poop jokes and the word beaver and is generally age-inappropriate.

Seeing any do nothing weekends on my calendar.

Remembering to tack my daily gratitude on at the end of posts. But I am remembering to list them for myself, and that's the important thing.

Feeling like I have a handle on life in general - the house and yard have gotten away from me and I don't feel like bringing them back into the fold.

Getting outside enough at lunch. Last week's library walk was my first foray away from the four blocks around my office in a month.

Fearing the dentist any less. An appointment still sends shivers up my spine. I had one last week and I have one next week. Deliver me.

What are you not doing?

  1. We have had stellar weather this week and I haven't been outside at all to enjoy it...makes me sad! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  2. Our weather has been so nice and the only time I'm outside to enjoy it is going in and out of the buildings at work (a school) to pick up kids. Then Im desperate to be back out there!
I almost spit out my coffee at weiner-whistle hahaha

You should link this up with Jessi and I today!

  3. Oh good, I was beginning to think I was the only one not on the pumpkin spice everything train and decorating for fall/Halloween. I'm barely keeping my head afloat with every day junk, ain't nobody got time for that.
I'm in the same boat as you in terms of Snapchat and Periscope. How do people seriously keep up?!
I haven't had any time to write anything substantial for my blog and I think it's because I'm putting too much pressure on my myself to crank on shit. I need to go back to my roots and stop giving a crap about if people are reading and go back to why I originally started this: as an outlet to get things off my chest and to chronicle this little slice of heaven I call my life.

Have a great day my friend. xo

  4. I'm not going 100% hot coffee either. I am still loving the iced pumpkin mocha. I'm not enjoying being outside enough. Winter will be here soon enough. I want to bottle up this weather and save it for January.

  5. I used to be anti-PSL but that I tried a (barely sweet) PSL from a local coffee shop in town and I am hooked. I've also seen a couple of recipes for PSL made in a crock-pot with REAL pumpkin. I think I may try one once the weather gets a little colder.

And yes, I have no desire to Snapchat or Periscope (I think that is what it's called - I just read about it the other day). Facebook and Instagram are enough social media for this girl.

Just discovered your blog - love!

  6. I am with you on the PSL, not a fan. I am switching to hot coffee though the majority of the time. I have a do nothing weekend this weekend but of course I already have it mostly full of chores and helping my Dad. I will be reading a lot though and taking naps, all about the balance.

  7. I drink ice coffee all year round too! People think I'm nuts for it. I just have never much liked hot stuff. Plus when you drink cold press based beverages they're less acidic and more caffeinated than even espresso.

  8. Iced coffee for life! Lol...I did get my first PSL latte last week. I forget every year that I'm actually not a fan (too sweet). I do like Pumpkin coffee at home with creamer, though.

  9. Oh this is fun! I am not doing Halloween decorations, either (but not because I made a conscious choice, just because October is half over already). I am not being terribly disciplined about exercise or nutrition. And I am not eating this morning because I'm fasting for bloodwork and it sucks!!!

  10. Outside of Snapchat, I'm on the same page as you. Besides Christmas, I just can't get into seasonal decorating. I'll add some flowers that match the holiday/season, but I'm not really into "decorating".

  11. It's funny, I pretty much never switch TO iced coffee in the summer. I'm a hot cuppa gal all year round. At least for my morning cup. If it's an afternoon/weekend social caffeine stop, then I'll go with iced on a hot day but I love my hot coffee. With you on PSLs though; they're too sweet. I get one a year, and I get it with soy milk, and that helps out the flavor a bit.

  12. I drink iced coffee all year long too. I mostly drink the hot stuff because its cold here but I love iced coffee more. I also have no time for Snapchat (or Periscope) and maybe this makes me sound like an old lady but I'm good on the social media. Let's just use what we have and stop making new apps!

    ReplyDelete
  13. I too drink Iced Coffee year round. Even on those bitter cold snowy days, I still get my Iced Coffee. People look at me like I'm crazy but I don't care.

  14. Snapchat is fun. I feel like you would actually like it if you tried it. It's so much faster too if you want to send the same picture to a ton of people at once.
I haaaate the dentist. Just thinking about it makes my ass pucker.

  15. I'm definitely not a dentist fan, either, nor a PSL fan. Recently, I've actually been getting Starbucks coffees, drinking some of it on my way to work, then adding in black coffee because they've become so sweet!

  16. This is so good! I'm with you on fall decor. I just...can't. I transform my house for Christmas anyway, so why do both in such a short amount of time? Also, orange doesn't really go with my decor. :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm the opposite - I basically wear scarves every day. Doesnt help I knit & have a pile of ones I've made...

I've been slowly making the transition to hot coffee too - its hitting freezing this weekend - it will be a total HOT coffee weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I like iced coffee most of the year too. And a big no on pumpkin spice - I don't like sugary coffee drinks. I like it black or with a little soy milk!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Not decorating for fall. I have dishtowels. That's as decorative as I get.

I don't wear scarves or drink PSL so I'll keep with my tradition of not doing that. I'm also not going to give up flip flops until it's so cold, I'll get frostbite if I wear them. I love fall but I hate shoes. They're basically foot jail.

  20. Being on vacation for 10 days puts you behind. And you are out of your house almost 12 hours a day- 5 days a week!! I started decorating for Halloween again when Riley was born and continue to do so for holidays for the kids and now we have Lola Jean-so the decorating will continue for quite some time. I like pumpkin bread, but no pumpkin in my coffee. And the dentist is really our only health issue- lucky us. Dental insurance at least gives you predetermination of your services and not a giant, unknown bill like health insurance.
Oh and what I am going to continue not doing- caring that my hair mane and my clothes are not the latest style or that people think I am silly wearing glitter.
We have so much to be grateful for, I am constantly saying thank you! Carpe diem. A beautiful Autumn day!

    Love, Your Momma

  21. I put my daily gratitude in my planner each day. I'm always there anyways (which is more than I can say about my blog recently). I never decorate for any holidays (except Christmas) because my apartment is small and i don't have room to store any seasonal decorations. Plus Christmas gets attention. And Snapchat is addicting and I love it, but it is stupid and ridiculous. Makes sense, right?

    Happy Hump Day!

  22. I much prefer caramel over pumpkin this time of year. I'm not a big coffee drinker in general, but as the temperatures cool down I have it a little more often. I have snapchat but essentially only use it to quickly send stuff to my closest 2-3 friends for the majority of the time. Definitely not lumping into another 'blog' thing I have to do. Also, I have to ignore your Charlie Brown comment- I love him ;)

    ReplyDelete
  23. The Halloween and Fall thing, too. I'm just not home enough this month to enjoy it this year. I did make the book paper things for my party on Oct 1st so I'll leave those up but that's it. Don't like PSL, so not doing that.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Poop jokes will always be funny - but I hear ya on not needing another form of social media. I can barely keep up with Twitter and Instagram so Snap only happens when I remember :-P

    ReplyDelete
  25. "Charlie Brown is a weinerwhistle who grates on my nerves" but but but!!!!! Oh well, it made me laugh anyways. I seem to let some of the house work fall off my radar as well. And the trimming of the bushes out front. And the cleaning out of my closet. And basically doing anything other than Netflixing and reading. So there is that. I love iced coffee all year too.

    1. PS Did you laugh at trimming of the bushes? Because I did. Totally age appropriate.

  26. vacuuming. tending the garden. eating right, or even less wrong. exercising. decorating indoors for halloween and fall. (outdoors is done. good enough) taking pictures. shaving my legs... not sure how long it's been, maybe May? cooking. duh. enjoying spare time.

  27. This a fun post! I would like to make a post like this as well. I LOLed at what you said about Charlie Brown!! Also reminded me that I need to watch the great pumpkin!!!!

  28. I'm not doing Weight Watchers for the upcoming session, even though I AM trying to get diet and exercise back on track. I just need a spell without meetings.

  29. There's a house in my neighborhood that looks like fall EXPLODED on their front porch/yard. It's just too much with the fake leaves and scarecrows and pumpkins. This is Charleston, we don't get fall. We get regular people "summer" when everyone else is all YAY PSL! Then after "regular summer" we get something like fall/spring during what normal people call winter. Our "summer" is actually Ultra Summer where I'd actually just prefer to be scorched by the sun to end the misery sooner. /endsoapbox

I, too, have never used Snapchat. I'd rather just send text messages with photos.

  30. I could write a book on this post. Sadly, I am just doing the bare minimum right now, NOT anything above and beyond. Just Mothering, working and living. I snap chat a little but it just seems like more pressure and really I don't need to see videos of all of your daily shenanigans. Why do people do that on snap chat? Video all the live long day.... ugh

    ReplyDelete
  31. I can't seem to bring myself to decorate for fall this year either. The fall wreath went up on the door and that's all the motivation I had.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I am not doing all of these things either! Okay I lied, I love snapchat, it's so addictive and fun and teenageloseryish. Also, I have lots of do nothing weekends. hahaha. But no shits about decorating for any season, not my jam.

    ReplyDelete
  33. lol @ poop jokes and beaver. I will never feel good about going to the Dentist. It's torture.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Going to every single thing i'm invited to. I'm the girl who cant say no to any social event (because FOMO?) and as I get older, I can't do that anymore. If I'm exhausted? No, sorry, don't want to get drinks. If I'm sick? I can't make your birthday party. Don't feel like it? Well, you get the idea. I think there are BIG events that you RSVP to and therefore need to make a commitment, but I can sit things out once in a while when I need a break.

    1. Oh, I'm also not going pumpkin or apple picking. It's like a basic biatch fall staple here in the NorthEast but it's something that people typically do with their SOs or kids and since I have neither, well.. no. WTF do I need a pumpkin for?

      Delete
  35. I pulled out the decorations I have for fall, but was thinking I wanted some more...I don't see anything I like in any of the stores. It's annoying, but I suppose I've reached my own status quo for now. And then I thought about crafting a decoration and realized that's a ridiculous idea.

    ReplyDelete
  36. No Pumpkin Spice Lattes for me either. I am a sugar addict but those are still too sweet for me! I have decorations up but it is at about only 10% of what I normally have up. I'm just kind of busy/not feeling it. I am with you on Charlie Brown. He makes me want to rage with his pathetic-ness.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Dude. You know I love your colorful vocabulary, but wienerwhistle may be your best word yet! I was laughing so hard, then my laptop seized up, and I was pissed that I couldn't comment immediately! I'm not decorating for Fall either, because, you know, Spring. I had snapchat. I erased the app. I saw bloggers talking about snapchat. I activated my account again. I erased it after about a half hour. I'm gonna skip the world of snapchat and be okay with that.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I can barely even decorate in general, let alone season-specifically. So that is definitely not happening around here. I don't have any do-nothing weekends in my calendar until December (basically until Christmas) and that is stressing me OUT. What is it with this time of year?!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I feel you on all of these things. I'm not dressing up for Halloween nor celebrating it at all. I am sad that we will miss handing out candy in our neighborhood again though. I feel like that's something I could get into.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I love this post topic! And I'm not decorating either. But I usually don't - hate storing decor :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. YES! Yes, yes, yes to pretty much all of this (but I'm not giving up my PSL's hehe). My sister keeps harassing me to join snapchat, but I just can't do it. I feel like I'm already overwhelmed and behind with keeping up with my current social media outlets. I really don't need another forum to make me feel behind lol

    ReplyDelete
  42. All of this is a big ol ditto. I woke up at like 3:30 last night (this morning?) & then my brain just started going for a solid hour on all the things I used to do when I lived alone & in Houston & how I haven't done any of those things this year. I don't need to restart doing all of them...but at least some might make my life feel a little more normal & less hectic again.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I am right there with you on almost all of these. I can also drink iced coffee year round (though I enjoy it hot too), and PSLs really aren't my thing.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Snapchat is definitely for children but I like pretending to be a child sometimes too, I also find sarcasm comes across via text better when I can include a facial expression.

I'm not walking the dog, I should be it's beautiful but the mud puddles make it less fun.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I feel you on so many of these. I have snapchat but ive maybe used it once (possibly because I havent taken the time to learn it well). I also have periscope and that may never get used. haha. I just dont have the zeal.

Things I am not doing? - blogging consistently. I want to but sleep and life has consumed me. Soon. lol

    ReplyDelete
  46. The only pumpkin thing I'm a fan of are pumpkin pies, and I can't eat that until Thanksgiving :). I also don't decorate (much) except for the decorations I made with my kids. Thank you for saying no to snapchat. I don't get it.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I'm not drinking PSL either. If I go to Starbucks, I'm a soy misto girl, but really I prefer the coffee I make at home. And like it black.
