Friday we drug our tired asses around Jackson Hole to close out our fifth anniversary vacation. We did a little shopping, ate lunch at a Mexican restaurant (
Merry Piglets) owned by a woman from Philly, and had our last huckleberry ice cream of the trip at
Moo's Gourmet Ice Cream. After this vacation, I am obsessed with huckleberry. Jackson is a picturesque little town - as you can see below, even their utility stuff is pretty.We also encountered Ben Franklin outside of a gallery. Our anniversary dinner was a convenience store feast in a hotel room that my stomach is still recovering from - too tired to go out. First world problems.
A very nice send off from Jackson Hole at the crack of dawn Saturday and awesome skies on the way to Denver.
We got home at 5 and immediately visited Wawa and DD before settling in on the couches with the dogs and the Pope on TV.
Sunday morning I dropped the Pope posse at the train station then did back to reality things like grocery shopping and $5.50 flower procuring. Produce Junction, ladies. Get some.
I did a little food prep: scrambled eggs with spinach/green onion/cheese for breakfasts; and quinoa with yellow Campari tomatoes, mushrooms, spinach, and green onion for lunches. Dinners are baked Parmesan garlic wings with roasted baby bliss potatoes and steamed cauliflower and grilled chicken with steamed broccoli and rice. I just didn't have it in me to do them Sunday. I missed cooking and home cooked food.
I went to a surprise 60th wedding anniversary lunch for my grandparents at Lamberti's Cucina in Feasterville. You can't go wrong with clams in white sauce.
I meant to do more when I got home but I am not feeling well so I took a two hour nap and watched the Pope. Later I picked my Pope posse back up and Debbie, MFD and I ate pizza and naughty things at 9:30. MFD was over the moon to be in the presence of the Pope, his Mass pass and medals are below.
I am not a religious person but I absolutely love Pope Francis. He doesn't only speak about love and kindness, he embodies them. I cried four times on Saturday watching him walk the walk. I hope we all catch his kindness and spread it like wildfire. If you have the opportunity to help someone, just do it instead of convincing yourself of why you shouldn't. I'm proud of my city for hosting this wonderful event. Well done, Philly.
Easing back in today as my company is working from home while Philly cleans up from the Pope's visit. I'll be sharing some posts about our trip in the upcoming weeks, broken down by national park, amid other normal posts.
I love to travel, but I'm happy to be home. Just waiting anxiously on the arrival of my niece or nephew now! Come on baby!
So glad you had a great time. I am sure the pups are glad to have you back. I forgot what it was like to meal prep but it makes the week so much easier. Jealous you are working from home, hope you feel better.

ReplyDeleteI'm sure the new niece or nephew will come soon now that you are home. We definitely did the convenience store feast our last night in Ireland... too many adventures. As for the pope, I'm with you. He gets it right. I have all kinds of thoughts about popes, but this one gets my vote for good works. On to the next special guest in Philly?

We were there in spirit. I do like the ritual of the mass but many times did not agree with the homilies.

Glad you had a wonderful vacation, such great pictures. I too love Pope Francis. That was so fab that MFD go to go the Mass. I too watched him all weekend long. I cried when he stopped his car to go bless the little boy in the wheelchair. He is just a wonderful wonderful person. The world needs more people like him and we totally need more kindness.

ReplyDeleteI watched a bit of the Pope's service yesterday (napped during most of the homily because #cheermomproblems) but after seeing the rest and watching his speech to the UN and all, I have to say he's a pretty awesome dude. Which I'm pretty sure is the exact description the Pope is going for. And Philly, you impressed me with your handling of the whole thing. Well done.

ReplyDeleteI also am not a very religious person, but I love the Pope! It's been amazing seeing him inspire some many people on his jaunt through the US. I'm very jealous of your work at home day. And also impressed by all the meal prep you did after just getting home! If it were me I'd have done absolutely nothing but relax once I made it back.

I hated having to work last week when all this Pope business was going down, I agree with what you said about appreciating that he not only speaks of love and kindness....but shows it. I bet those dogs missed you guys terribly when you were gone on your trip! I always like to take a day off after I get back to chill out before easing back in to work. What is huckleberry ice cream? ReplyDeleteI have to say, Pope Francis is a game changer for me in terms of how I look at those who lead organized religion. He is an example that everyone could learn from in many aspects.
I have never had huckleberry, and I pretty much like all berries, so I need to seek out some huckleberry sometime.
ReplyDeleteAlthough there are valid reasons to criticize the Catholic Church, I still find the power of the Church fascinating and respect their faithful. (I'm not Catholic) I attended Midnight Mass at the Vatican December 2007 and a Good Friday service at the Vatican too. (That previous 10 year relationship I talked about previously, he was Catholic)
I alwaysalways miss cooking when I'm traveling or moving. Eating out is fun, but can take a toll on you.

I'm not Catholic at all but I do love the Pope as well. Just everything I hear about him just makes me love him even more. He's real and walks what he talks and that's so important.

How cool that he visited your city. Seattle was turned upside down last week by the Chinese president. I wish we got the Pope instead. Haha!

ReplyDeleteI'm not religious, but I have so much respect for Pope Francis. I think you are so right, he walks the walk. He gives me hope for organized religion and is a breath of fresh air. I could go for some good clams in white sauce. Looking forward to hearing about your trip.
