TWTW - the first one at home in a month

Friday night I felt like being a lazy B, so that's what I did because I do what I want. Groceries were delivered, nails were painted (Essie Castaway), books were read, and my face was trampled on by Gus when MFD got home so I closed out the week with a fat lip. This dog is lucky he's cute because he nearly sent me to a bad and broken place with a bone on the stairs last week.
Saturday I was out of bed by 6:30 (thanks dogs and husband) and determined not to let laziness rule the day. I purged and reorganized the kitchen, utility room, and basement shelves and cleared the bar out so my brother can come get it when his man cave is finished. This is what my house looks like when it's in flux: drawers and cabinets are open, shit is everywhere and I'm like Go Go Gadget Arms doing a million things at once.
I dropped six boxes off at Goodwill then went to Target for a leisurely stroll. The reason I have nail polish problems is on the right - I was all oh I like that color I'll buy it. So like the color I just painted my nails the night before. I put it back.
MFD and I headed to Franklin Mills to return things when he got finished work and that was a shit show. Rude people everywhere. I picked up a few t-shirts and my 598th cardigan from LOFT outlet.
Weekly food prep: Grilled chicken, sweet potatoes, steamed broccoli, turkey tacos, and Amy's pizza spaghetti pie using spaghetti squash for dinners; egg muffins with spinach, green onions, and extra sharp cheese for breakfasts; orange peppers and bananas for snacks; and spinach salads for lunches.
Sunday morning I was running errands to Produce Junction and Dollar Stores before I had coffee...not a good idea. At all. That's plural Dollar Stores because apparently the Dollar Stores in the southeasten PA area have their helium on lockdown and finding a store that does them is like trying to find a rare diamond in the creek in your backyard. Oh and new fear: driving in the car with balloons. That shit is nerve wracking.
Once back at home I mainlined coffee, had some eggs, and got to work on taco cups. More on those on Wednesday.
Sunday afternoon was Aubrey's baby shower. You guys, I cannot adequately describe my excitement for this baby to get here. I truly can't wait to meet my niece (my vote in the Baby Pool) or nephew! It was nice to catch up with framily and I hung out at Stephen & Aubrey's for a few hours after. I was remiss in taking photos of people but at the end I did get the expectant parents; Aubrey, her sister and me; and Aub with the three grandmoms.
I wore these dogs out this weekend with the organizing and hausfrauing so I think they were happy to be alone for much of the day Sunday.

  1. Good job on all the organizing, the midway point is always the hardest with stuff everywhere. The balloon thing always make me nervous too. Aubrey looks amazing, you'll be an awesome Auntie.

  2. So exciting to be expecting a new little one in the family and that looks like a fun baby shower. Yes, helium balloons in the car scare the bejeesus out of me. Love seeing the pics in the middle of a purge, hope it was a success! Have a fabulous Monday!

  3. congrats on your SIL's pregnancy and upcoming little one. being an aunt is the best - you can spoil them rotten and give them back to the parents LOL

  4. Your sister-in-law looks amazing, I love her dress! I need a good cleaning/purging day around my house. There's so much crap I could get rid off. My husband and I sit on our butts at night talking about all the stuff we would like to do to our downstairs yet we never get going with it. Looking forward to show us your books tomorrow!

  7. Your sister-in-law looks awesome! I hope you get a niece. I have 3 nephews and one on the way...plus Jack, and my two first cousins both have boys. So in September, there will be EIGHT boys and no girls in our immediate family. That's a lot of wieners.

Balloons are the fucking worst. Getting them to the car without tangling them all up, shoving them in the car, driving with them. Ugh.

  8. Great that you all got to hang out after the shower! Everything was lovely. Glad we could support the veterans by renting the VFW hall. Very reasonable and close to all of us!!
Can't wait to meet Lola Jean Maria or SM3!

  11. Driving with balloons is absolutely terrifying- plus I almost always pop one somehow. Annoying. Nice work on the mega-donation. I seriously never get tired of that feeling :) Congrats on your SIL, she looks great!

  12. Driving with balloons is terrifying!!!! I think it's illegal in Oregon to have them up, lol. I always tether them down but it's stressful when they wiggle free.
    I love your back splash!

And congrats on the pending little one! I just hung out with my nephew last night and it was so, so, so cute and fun. They bring such light to family events.

  13. Driving with balloons is the absolute worst because of only can you not see, they attack at the most in opportune moments. And let's not forget the moment of sheer terror when you open the door and just know they are all going to fly away so your frenetic, panicked driving would have been for nothing.

So excited for your new niece or nephew and Aubrey looks great! Hope she's feeling okay, this close to the end!

  14. Oh Gus! One day when Gracie was maybe 2 or 3, we were playing tug with one of her toys. I made the mistake of laying down and when I pulled she let go then pounced my face to get it back. She got my lip with her claw and I STILL have a scar there to this day and she is 10!! I hate driving with balloons. It looks like you made up for your lazy evening on Friday with all the work and purging on Saturday and shower on Sunday. Nieces and nephews are the best!

  17. ooh those taco cups! my mother in law makes something similar, with beef and salsa. i made them for our last party but with black beans and salsa. i don't know if it's because i didn't use beef, but the salsa made them all soggy on mine. womp womp.
anyway. i was playing with one of my cats and she accidentally scratched the crap out of my face. not cute at all. i was supposed to be meeting a celebrity for a photo op the next day so i was not impressed. i looked like edward scissorhands got at me. good thing the celebrity cancelled.
haha my house looks the same as yours when i clean and purge. KC gets mad because all the doors / cabinets / drawers are open and he goes and closes them and I'm like, stop, you're ruining my flow.

  18. I need to clean out my closet BADLY. Was just thinking about that earlier. I cleaned out a couple of drawers the other day and it felt great... I don't neeeed 10 holy tshirts with stains.
I hate driving with balloons, too! You can't see shit! lol

  19. A few years ago we threw my friend a surprise party, and the helium tank her parents bought at Party City was a joke, so we took the balloons to the Dollar Store...and they were out of helium! So we called four other locales...all OUT. I feel your pain...what is that about?!

  20. Yay for a relaxing weekend at home, but boooo to Gus hurting you for the 2nd time in a week! They're definitely lucky they're cute! And I too have a nail polish problem, but it's a great problem to have ;-)

  21. I have mad love for sweet potatoes, and yours look damn good. What an adorable dress of Aubrey. I love that pregnat woman nowadays seem to embrace the pregnancy and show off the bump!

  22. I am the same way when I clean/organize, my place looks like a tornado ran through it. It's not uncommon for me to not be able to open doors and drawers, all in the name of "tidying up." It's the storm before the calm :)

  23. GUS is such a snugglepus. I do love the last picture... Pug be like "gtf away. I'm snuggling Mother!" Seriously - you may have been lazy on Friday night, but you did SO MUCH the rest of the weekend!!!

  24. I have no idea how you can get so much done on a weekend. All I feel like doing is sleeping in and reading a book.
