Currently - August

U S I N G ... Perricone MD Photo Plasma - a moisturizer with broad spectrum SPF 30. It's oil/parabens/sulfates/phthalates free and has anti-aging benefits. I find with my SPF-laden moisturizers, I need to change them up every once in a while. My skin has changed a lot as I've entered my late 30s. This is one of the more expensive ones I've used, but I like it. This is not what I use when I'm spending a day at the beach. This is my daily moisturizer even when I know I'll be inside most of the day.

W A T C H I N G ... Difficult People on Hulu. These people are awful. I love them.
via
R E A D I N G ... a lot of magazines. I had two non-starter books in a row - In the Unlikely Event and The Humanity Project. I'm not sure if my brain needs a break from reading or if I didn't like those books, so I'm just coasting the past week and a half. I never try to force myself back into reading when I hit a dry spell. It'll come back. It always does.

C O O K I N G ... I'm grilling things like I was never a grill scaredy cat. MFD was trying to police me cleaning up the grill, etc., and I was like sorry, step off, the grill is now my domain.
W O R K I N G   O N ... the crap spaces where clutter collects in my house. Like the basket on the entry table, the teal rolling cart, the copper pot on the dining room table, my travel size toiletries. Everything must be touched this week.

F E E L I N G ... sleepy. So are the dogs. I've been trying to go to bed a little earlier than I normally do this week and actually be asleep by 11.
N E E D I N G ... to harness a packing list for our wild west trip which is less than 30 days away. I have to see if we need to buy anything or if what we have will do. I'm trying to not go crazy since we'll be outside most of the time and need no nice clothes so prepare in advance to see photos of us in the same clothes throughout. LOL

E N J O Y I N G ...  taking full advantage of our close proximity to the shore this summer. It isn't uncommon for MFD to work until 12 or 1 on Sunday afternoon then head down there to fish for a few hours and be home by 8. We've jumped in the car quite a few times together and separately and driven to our home base southern shores and up to Asbury Park and Belmar a time or two, too. Finding whole weekends to spare is hard. Finding a half a day is not. Hashtag YOLO.
L A U G H I N G   A T ... this. Some days, this is my dogs.

Fill me in...what's going on with you this month?

  1. That meme is funny. I get it, reading bad books in a row makes you not want to read. I usually pick up a book I am sure to love just to get out of the slump.

  2. Please wear the same clothes over & over again in pictures during your Wild West trip. If they're comfortable, do it. I've been super tired/sleepy a lot too. So much so that I have a follow-up doctor's appointment after some crazy blood work test that had me drinking glucose and taking my blood three times in two hours. Can we please hope that I'm not pre-diabetes? Thanks.

  3. I love that you can sneak away for half days at the beach! I bought a large glass jar and put all my mini sundries in it... then put it in the guest bath. It cuts down on dust and makes it easy to find things when I need it. Best idea I've found yet.

  5. Amen on sunblock all the time, inside and outside, year round. Always glad you are reading your magazines since you share them with me! Love your shore trips and seeing all the pictures. Can't wait to tour the Wild West via your pictures. I am thoroughly enjoying the last full month of summer!
Happy Friday eve! Love, your Momma

  6. I swear I'm going to bed at 9pm tonight. Maybe earlier.

I would love to be close to the beach. It's all landlocked here.

  7. I like to be in bed by 11 at the latest, myself. Sometimes this works, sometimes it's 12. I need to look into this Hulu show!

  8. half days at the beach are better than no days!
i try and be in bed by 10pm at the latest, because it normally takes me at least half an hour to fall asleep.
i go through the dry spells with reading as well, and i normally just try and leave it.. like you said, it will come back!
gonna check out that moisturiser, i need a new one with SPF.

  9. Learning to grill and not be afraid is a total cooking game changer. Minimal cleaning, no dishes, healthy, and delicious. Where can you go wrong?

I love the dog meme. Yesterday fucking Sam went outside, laid in the sun for 15 minutes in the yard, and then on his way in peed on the lanai furniture. WHY?????

  11. Your potatoes look ridiculously appealing right now. So does Billy Eichner basically play Billy Eichner on this show? I like him in small, bite-sized doses but even on Parks and Rec, he was a bit much for me.

  12. I've never heard of difficult people but that show sounds right up my alley!

  13. Reading: a very boring book. Why don't I let it go? OCD.
Using: essential oils, on me and on Grace. Reporting back later with results.
Eating: cheerios. Yes, cheerios. Oh, and artichoke bread.
    Cooking: WHAAAT? I don't cook.
Watching: same ole same ole... Law & Order, Big Bang Theory, Everybody Loves Raymond - all reruns of course.

  14. I wish we could have a grill so bad! Have you tried grilling corn on the cob? Supposed to be amazing! (You can still cut it off, lol)
Wild West trip necessity: assless chaps. Make it happen.

  15. I've heard really good things about Perricone. I'm with you- I need spf but sometimes they don't seem to work. need to try that out. Those potatoes look delicious. how fun that you're so close to the shore. I'm jealous!

  16. This anti-aging moisturizer is intriguing, I've decided I hate my whole face product stash and I need something new.

I think I'll get back to reading this weekend, first day of school is in the books! Yay!

  17. Yes, conquer that grill. I made my firs attempts this summer too. Of course, the first was pizza, but the second was a pork tenderloin and I am telling you I felt like the queen bitch when it was done. The dog picture....completely my little min pin. Think he craps in the house more than my hubbie.

  18. Half a day to get to a nice warm beach? You'd hear no arguments from me. How long does it take you to drive there? I could probably be at a beach in maybe 2 hours but it would be a cold and windy one... Possibly near a nuclear power station. Not quite such an attractive prospect! I'm all about the same-clothes-rotations on holiday. Go for it!

  19. I much prefer half days at the beach. Even if I go early, I usually leave by early afternoon- too much sun makes me sleepy. Difficult People is the one created by Amy Poehler, right? I need to get on that. My clutter space is my dining room table; everything lands there when I get home. It's terrible.

  20. You entry basket clean-up plan reminds me of the Peruvian ep of An Idiot Abroad, in which Carl is outraged because the Incan medicine man who's supposed to clear him to hike the Inca Trail makes this gris-gris bag of crap as a talisman, and Carl thinks it's filled with all the junk from peoples' junk bowels from all over Peru.

  21. I'm jealous that you live so close to the beach. I will kill for an afternoon on the coast right now. What's going on with me is a distinct lack of organization. When I work, I work. When I'm off I have never been so off in my life. As in completely unproductive. But I'm ok with that!

  22. Man I wish I lived close to the beach! I'd steal away there every chance I get. Then again it would be hard to go to work instead if the beach was the other option.

  23. I started using a Perricone moisturizer about a month ago (I can't remember specifically which one) and I agree, it's a bit more expensive but completely worth the cost.

  24. Girl... I need some sleep myself. I think I can take a nap sometime in November... maybe

  25. All that grilled food looks DELISH! I'm definitely on a dry spell w/ reading but that's okay- it happens! Also, I'm loving the blue/orange on your sidebar stuff- looks good!

  26. Hahahahahaha the dog poop! That is so Mac!! And umm In the Unlikely Event is something I think I have no desire to read and I am sad about that but what can you do! All your grilled food looks delicious!!! I have heard great things abut Perricone before, I will have to check it out.

  27. Sleep snuggles with the dogs are the best! And I've been looking into that moisturizer, thanks for the review :)

  28. Gah! Tonight I'm cleaning like a mofo. I have to. Piles and clutter are driving me bananas and Jeff's like, "is that all you think about?" No, no it's not but it doesn't help when he makes piles of shit everywhere and then I go on a mission chucking everything.

  29. I finally just got my Roku set up and with it have two months free of Hulu and Difficult People is on my list of need to watch.

  30. I'm a total grill scaredy cat. Good for you for conquering it! And day trips to the shore are SO good, especially impromptu ones. I love having it so close that I don't need to plan a whole weekend away just to be down there breathing in the salty air!

  31. I'm loving Difficult People!! It reminds me a little of Seinfeld. The dogs are so cute! Shannon and I are planning a beach day this Friday. I live 20 minutes from it and have totally not taken advantage of it this summer :(

  32. Summer has gone like the wind. It's almost time for my son's school to start in two weeks. For my sister out near West Virginia, it already has. Kids a bit more South will start this coming week. Bah! And so it begins, another year, another grade. I'm studying up these past few weeks so I've been quiet haha :) Taking advantage of the time off I have since my son is with his father to do some research and reading on a different area I'm going to jump into. :) Time to hit World Market~ Have a great weekend Stephanie! -Iva
