Choose Your Own Adventure Goal Setting Challenge - It's a Wrap with the May Results

Life According to Steph
May's Choose Your Own Adventure challenge had the monthly theme of READ. My goals were:

1) Get current on magazines. Pass even though I cheated. I ended up just passing a bunch on to my mom without reading them, then I spent the rest of the time reading all the May mags and getting current. That took me until 5/31.
2) Read an Agatha Christie Miss Marple novel. I'm giving myself a pass because I attempted it and hated it. I won't force myself to read a book I don't like because it's on an arbitrary list I've created.
3) Read five books total including the above. Success! I finished seven books in May, started and stopped two more, and then really started and stuck with a tenth book the last day of the month that I have since finished.

We've been at this since September, and it's been a nice ride. I've enjoyed seeing how everyone interpreted the monthly themes. I know personally I've built upon some of the goals I've had and they're now regular things for me, which is always nice too, when a goal leads to a lifestyle change.

Before I wrap up, I need to wish my brother Stephen a happy birthday today! Here's a little throw back for you for Thursday.

Thank you all so much for participating over the past nine months.

  1. I can't believe I'm the first one here today! Whoop whoop! You did great too. I'm sad that the goal setting is done, but glad I got to participate the last few months. Happy Birthday to Steven!

  4. I passed on a few mags too and just recycled them. I tried a Miss Marple book and I just couldn't finish it either, not a fan! Happy Birthday to Stephen.

  5. Not a big Christie fan either. Have you read PD James or Ruth Renndel? Both good English Mystery writers.

  6. I used to love Agatha Christie! I totally failed on reading this month- between moving nonsense, it took me the ENTIRE month to read a 300 page book. Though, that could be because it wasn't too great. -Dorrie @ Bear Den Plantation

I just got a few new magazines in the mail, and am hoping I'll have time to dig into them this weekend :)

  8. What do you do with your magazines when you're done with them? I just don't buy them anymore because I always end up throwing them away.
It was a slow month for books here. I also quit one I just couldn't finish.

  9. Life is too short to read bad books or books you don't connect with.

I didn't set any reading goals this month except to proceed as usual. I do have some magazines staring at me but I'll get to them at some point. I should just move them into the bathroom. That'll make sure they get read.

  10. I'd say good job on reading but you always do a good job :). I've really enjoyed this linkup since I'm not usually a goal-setter. I started exercising and laughing more (bldg better relationships) because of it. Thanks!

  12. I refuse to read a book I do not like, life is too short for that shit!!! Look at you in your throw back picture, love it! Happy Birthday to the bro!

  13. I agree with you too, I won't finish reading a book I don't like. I try not to jump the gun too much though, since it could just be a dry period in the book or a slow-starter... especially if it's something I've wanted to read for a while, I'll give it a fair chance. But life's too short and there are too many good books out there to read something bad.

  14. aw, happy birthday to your baby bro!! Such a cute photo.

And you are such a solid reader! I wish I could go through books that fast. Every time I ask my husband what he's reading it's a new book and I've been on the same one for awhile ...

  18. I also stop a book if I'm not feeling it. If I keep putting off reading a book I started, there's a reason- I don't like it! HA :) Happy bday to your brother, that picture is awesome!

  20. I think I have read a Miss Marple aaaaages ago and it was alright, nothing amazing. I preferred Poirot. My sister passed a pile of magazines on to me a while ago, and I only just got around to reading some. I realised how old they were when all the articles were about Christmas!! I felt about them how you felt about the Miss Marple, so they're all now in the recycling. Boom.

  23. What magazine do you subscribe to?

  24. I've been wanting to join in on this. May went by super fast, but not as fast as April, but fast enough that I totally forgot to post a Currently post.

  25. What magazines do you get? I think I was up to 7 or 8 subscriptions a couple years ago but I canceled all but one because I had such a hard time keeping up on them. I do miss them sometimes though when I want a good mindless escape.
