Friday Five: Things from the week

TGIF mofos. Do you like my descriptive title? Things from the week? Good. Good. Relax, enjoy.

Meanwhile, I post my current hausfrauing schedule on Wednesday. We were out Wednesday night so I meant to pick up some slack Thursday night but I couldn't get off the couch. The universe basically bitch slapped me off of my schedule. Sometimes you have to take your lumps.

1. I'll start with the most serious, because this is Friday and we like to get serious shit out of the way early. I was ready to throw a Molotov cocktail through the doors of McCann Erickson with my girl Joan this week on Mad Men. BURN IT DOWN! I have a pretty good humor about most things, even things that are not politically correct. But I don't really find anything to laugh about in inequality anymore, there is absolutely zero reason why it still exists except that we as a people allow it to exist. I'm a bitter old feminist about it and I don't mind letting you know it. In the same vein, check out this proclamation from President Jimmy Carter on why he's losing his religion for equality. Thanks Janet for sharing it on the facespace! It's a good read.
2. Since we gave Comcast das boot, I've been missing the clock on the cable box the most. This is the replacement from FancyThisBaby on Etsy.
3. I missed Rex Manning Day on Wednesday. A few months ago Jana and I were all let's do something for Rex Manning Day, then we were like oh we'll talk about it later because it's not for a long time. And we missed it. Christina did not miss it though. Check this post out.
4. If you're a mummer and you get married, you get a serenade. This is the men of the Joseph A. Ferko String Band (and one from Avalon String Band) serenading Freddy & Alex the other night. Excuse the poor video. Good video taking is not in my wheelhouse. Happy wedding day to Freddy & Alex!

5. And and and - This coming Tuesday, April 14, for real. It's book talk day. I have not screwed the date up this time.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend that's a good mix of social, productive, and relaxing.

  1. I could never get overly Rex Manning excited because I typecast Maxwell Caulfield. He will always be Michael Carrington to me (Grease 2). I will have you know that I did not google or imdb any of those names. Sad, but true in some people's eyes. In mine, I am a dedicated and proud Grease 2 lover.

I'm so ready to show my books. I'm been a reading fool this month (for me). Oh, and I started Saving Francesca this morning. I remember you saying you enjoyed it.

    1. Did I type "I'm been" instead of "I've been"? Yes. I meant to do that. (Not really).

  2. When we got rid of our comcast we didn't have a clock either LOL...we ended up getting a digital frame with pictures and a clock!! Empire Records is one of my favorite movies!! Hope you have a great weekend! xo, Biana - BlovedBoston

  3. Agree with Erin- Michael Carrington from Grease 2 every time I see "Rex Manning". I abhor any inequality, but JMJ
it keeps going on. I adore Jimmy Carter. I remember when he was elected and thought "what??". He is a true humanitarian. Habitat for Humanity and now this. Just a sparkling gem in the political world. I really love digital clocks now. I just do. We can see our birthdays. Triple digits is a time for sending intense lights and love into the world, etc.
Happy and Joyful weekend to all! Love, Your MOMMA

  6. Ditto to Nicole up there...
Also, if you're a woman and not offended my gender inequality, your card has been revoked.

  8. Next year we will not forget.

That whole scene from Sunday's episode made my blood boil. But I found a new respect for Peggy and the elevator scene afterwards was fantastic. I think I still hate Roger's mustache more.

  10. I was livid over that scene with Joan and Peggy. It's crazy that inequality is even a thing in this day and age, but the way it was so blatant then. Fuck that. I was yelling at Peggy, she was irritating the hell out of me in that scene.

Love the serenades, makes me wish I was marrying a Mummer! Lol

Have a lovely weekend my sweet friend! <3

  12. I think I'm pretty much the same, I can laugh about most things, but inequality, among other things, just shouldn't exist anymore the jimmy carter thing was definitely a good read, thanks for sharing. love your new clock. have a good weekend!

  13. I am so excited about the book link up next week! I read some really good ones. Also apparently I am the only person in the entire world that did not see Empire records and have no idea what Rex Manning Day means or what it is about! My husband says that we need to fix this immediately and it's pretty sad when he's more up-to-date on cult favorite movies than me. Where was I how did I miss this?!

  14. We've been debating getting rid of Comcast too! Because with Netflix, what's the point? Haha. Love your clock choices! :D I might have to join that book link-up too!!

  15. That clock is really cute, I always love state-shaped things.

I love that JC read- thank you for posting it. Unfortunately, you have a whole population of women who have been undermined into thinking that being a feminist is a bad thing and they are proudly not that. I think it's one of the most utterly uneducated statements any woman can make and I earnestly question their motives for not standing up for their rights of choice and liberty in their own lives. Makes no sense at all.

  16. I can't wait till the book link up, looking forward to seeing what everyone is reading!!

I got rid of my huge expensive cable bill a year ago, best decision ever. I seriously just exist off of Netflix, the antenna that picks up quit a few stations and my Blue Ray player has YouTube on it. I don't miss it or the $200 bill monthly!!

  17. Ahhh Mad Men, I'm behind because Netflix only has up through season 6 to stream and I binge watched it all. Can't wait to catch up on season 7 :-D

    Happy Friday!

  19. I love that clock!!!!! And it's my home state too :)

I have like 50 pages left of my book so hopefully I can finish it off this weekend to have something to link up with! There was a huge plot twist and I cant wait to see how it plays out. Have a great weekend!

  22. I love the clock.

I've honestly been extremely turned off of Joan ever since she turned her back on Don last season.

  23. I love the clock! Way better than a comcast clock anyway.

  25. Aww, thanks for the shout out! Hope you had a great Rex Manning day! Next year, at least make cupcakes. ;) I really love that clock! I didn't (and still don't) know much about Jimmy Carter, but I read his book "A Call To Action" last year and he's a good egg. I'm gonna go check out that article.
