TWTW - it's March, bitches.

Another scintillating Friday night, friends: Sam's, gym, Target, pizza. I listened to the Call Your Girlfriend podcast at the gym, which I heard about through Lauren. It made time go quickly, which is good at the gym. For me, at least.
I said I was getting it, and I got it - a Bodum 8-cup French Press - Chambord from Target. It was on sale for $32, plus an additional 10% off with Cartwheel, and another 5% off with my Redcard. Boom. The coffee comes out smooth and just really lovely, rich, and deep. You need to use a coarser ground coffee, so you have to get it done at the store or grind it yourself. I love grinding beans and the scent associated with that. Using the french press couldn't be easier. I'm pleased with my new weekend ritual.
Dogs were walked, couches were washed, errands were run, pedicures were gotten. To expand: the dog walk was frigid (ear covering by the fabulous Kathy B), everyone and their blessed mother was out running errands (even the lady in front of me was all WTF!), and the last time I had a pedicure was the beginning of December. Sweet Jesus, I've missed them. Even better? Thursday night while cleaning out my bedside table, I found a year old gift certificate so it was free. Free is for me.
I apologize for the lack of a before photo. I reorganized the medicine cabinet using acrylic organizers. MFD even said, "This works so much better." He usually doesn't give a shit about organization...as you can see by the second pic. Guess which side is his?
I also moved my makeup brushes, so that when not in use they sit on top of my beloved Mujis. The squat jars with white beads are where the brushes used to be. Overall a cleaner appearance on the dresser top since I ditched those two and the big jar of lip stuff Thursday when I purged my makeup and made sure it all fit in the Mujis.
Show you a place where I like disorder, you say? No problem. I like disorder in my mug cabinet. I like rooting through and pulling out different mugs to use. I cleared the way to make room for even more this weekend, transferring my boxed pasta to solid storage that was empty.
Saturday night dinner - ham, asparagus, mashed sweet potatoes. Weekly food prep: sausage/green onion/jalapeno pepper cheese egg muffins, energy bites (recipe coming as soon as I get my shit together), chicken tortilla soup, jalapeno cauliflower muffins, orange kielbasa (recipe coming tomorrow).
Sunday after the food was all prepped I laid out my clothes, admired this week's $4 flowers, and hit the gym for my 12th day of 40 minutes or more of exercise in a row. That has happened never in my life. I'm proud of myself. And happy I got it in before the weather turned to crap.
What kind of host would I be if I let you leave without taking a tour of This Weekend in Dog Town? My friend Karen sent me this very thoughtful and totally unexpected gift, very appropriate in this house. It's warm and comfortable and I loved kicking around in it on Saturday. Thank you Karen!
And these pictures suck, but I must show you how Mae is literally in my face constantly.
Well, that was an overly verbose TWTW. Apologies. Sunday night can be summed up with the following: House of Cards. And Food Network. Our friend Bill is on a show that started last night, All-Star Academy . He's on Chef Michael Symon's team. If you're watching, root for Bill!

  3. Do you loooove your french press? It looks like the exact one (from Target) I bought for Steve last year. Enjoy sweets! Your Saturday and Sunday Mugshots always make me smile. Gym 12 days in a row... that is what I like to call a success! Proud of you for stickin to it! You know how makeup organization warms my heart, I'm getting ready to purge a few items myself. 7. I had two birthday parties to go to on Saturday which was utterly exhausting. Two parties is just too much for this old fart! On Sunday I actually got to do some organizing too while I was cursing the snow. I bought the cutest bins at HomeGoods and finally got to use them!

You accomplished a lot this weekend!

  12. My regular mugs are all the same, in perfect order, used as they line up. My fun mugs are for company, who rarely request the size cup I drink.

  13. Yay for free pedicure. I got my first one last Thur since the fall. It was long overdue!!! 😃

  14. Hell yeah for a free pedicure! I need one so badly there's not even a word for it.

Every time you mention your weekend cooking, I get so jealous and can't wait for free weekends again. I need to start stockpiling freezer meals, I think.

  15. So much cleaning and organizing!!! I love seeing pasta in clear containers, it is so pretty :) All of your food looks freaking delicious! I can't wait to see your recipe for energy bites. There are a zillion floating around on Pinterest and instead of rooting through them all...I will impatiently wait for yours!

  16. yay for free pedicures - i cant remember the last time i got a pedicure.. my wedding? that lady in the picture is hilarious! 12 days of exercise is AWESOME and heck yes you should be proud of yourself, that is awesome. i am really loving the laying of the clothes out, so smart. i really need to get on that. love your organisation of the makeup and whatnot, so much better than my under the counter stuff - my cats would play with my brushes, so they have to stay hidden! i love that Mae is all up in your face, so adorable! my cats do that, but their butts are in my face. less adorable.

  17. Awesome and productive weekend I'd say! I always feel so great after a pedi, and a free one?! makes it even better!

  18. I'm cleaning this weekend I swear!!! And I am seriously looking into the French press as well. Its just me here drinking coffee and I already have a grinder so I think it would be perfect. Love that sweatshirt. And all your food prep always makes me hungry. I am trying to carve out an hour later for an episode of HOC... fo sho

  19. Yayyy for organizing, now that I've purged I need to get some organizers for some stuff. Under my bathroom sinks are the worst, they need shelves or something.

Also hell yeah for birthday months!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I've been eyeing some of those hard clear containers for pantry organization...why are they so expensive!?!?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Those organizers look perfect for my medicine cabinet, which always feels like a mess. I'll have to measure and look into it.

I was only half successful with my Feb. goals.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Glad you like CYG! They got a little stale for me after a while. but I mostly love them. I was so looking forward to House of Cards but didn't get around to watching it til yesterday. I forgot so much about last season but so far, so good (but really, poor Stamper...). I love the french press and now it's hard to go back. I got an OXO one at HomeGoods during Christmas because it has a silcone layer that goes on the bottom and has a handle that reaches the top so you can easily lift out the grounds. I hate cleaning the thing, so anything that simplifies is lovely!

  23. Yummy, french press! Going to enter your birthday giveaway now :).

  28. That mug cabinet doesnt even look disorganized to me! I listen to call your girlfriend sometimes as well though not religiously. Those cheese egg muffins look so yummy. I tried my own concoction some time back and loved it!

  29. TWTW- aka pugs and mugs! Fo' free is fo' me! Kudos on the GC find! Also, I absolutely adore your pug shirt and "disorganized" mug cabinet. Just makes me want more mugs in my life.

    ReplyDelete
  30. That sweater is awesome! I don't drink coffee, but I loved grinding the beans at work every morning. I should do it in my house just for the scent! I haven't had a pedicure since December either. I need to get on it!

  31. I had that exact same white basket in college for my bathroom crap & it looked VERY similar to how he has his stuff. I need someone to organize my damn life...

    ReplyDelete
  32. I love your organization! I always want things to be organized. Unfortunately, it never stays that way. :(

    ReplyDelete
  33. Your pug Mae is like my ginger cat Astro; he's always up in my business :)

  34. i need that pug life shirt! i'm always impressed by your organization and food prep. i need to get in on that! and rosie is the same way with jarrod as mae is with you. must be a crazy girl pug thing?

    ReplyDelete
  35. You weekend like a champ! I love seeing all the errands you run, it's beyond legit. I handle all my food prep religiously but I don't do half of the other stuff you do. I should definitely try to lay all my clothes out on Sunday, that's a good idea.

LOVE Mae in your face, how cute. And yay for pedicures! Spring is coming!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I've never heard of that podcast I'll have to check it out! And Mae is adorable when she's in your face, Squish does it to Dave all the time, it drives him nuts.

  37. So much organization!! I found out about the podcast from Lauren too and while I don't always agree with their strong views on some topics, I love listening.
