TWTW - the first one of spring

Well, Friday sucked the wang. I was at the emergency vet with Gus on Thursday night and only got two hours of sleep so I was snarky to begin with. When I got off the train, heavy snow waited to be cleaned off the car. I was wearing boots but my wool coat was soaked and I was full of raaage. Way to suck, first day of spring. I was in bed by 7 p.m. and everyone was safer for it.
Saturday morning I did my weekly food prep - savory oatmeal for breakfast; hard boiled eggs, apples, and snow peas for snacks; a whole roasted chicken; butternut squash mac and cheese-ish (recipe coming tomorrow); and I began the long process of making bone broth for the dogs using the bones from the whole chicken. Lunches are soup from the freezer and butternut squash mac and cheese-ish.
Forces conspired against me on Friday so I missed my first 40 minutes of exercise in 31 days. Rage! So Saturday I went to the gym and made that up, then splurged on $7 worth of flowers in honor of spring. I usually make a game of seeing what I can get for $3, LOL. I also got my refillable coffee mug so I get 99 cent iced coffee until June. Boom. Thanks DD Perks!
Saturday night we went to MFD's work bowling thing to benefit a local homeless organization. Realtors + homeless charity = good fit.
Then we headed over to listen to Frank play at Dolan's in Burlington, NJ, for a few hours, and in honor of my birthday he sang one of my favorites - Soon Forget by Pearl Jam. I loved it. Thanks Fronk!
Sunday morning I was up and out of the house by 7:20 to get my 40 in for the day.
I met up with my lovely friends AEB and Alicia for breakfast at the Vintage Grille in Doylestown and had eggs benedict over a crab cake along with excellent conversation as always.
I laid around on my ass with the dogs for a while before unloading the dishwasher, cleaning up the kitchen, laying out my clothes for the week, and changing sheets. I planned on being more productive but sometimes you just have to say fuck it, you know? The dogs love when I say fuck it and lay around.
Sunday night we were off to Tacconelli's in Maple Shade, NJ, to have dinner with Michelle & Bob and Amanda & Frank. Holy shit, that was awesome pizza. That white pizza with roasted red peppers? Whoa nelly. I wanted to lick the pan it was served on. Of course dinner was punctuated with lots of laughs. I love my framily. I also had cannoli cake which you can see on Instagram.
And in more birthday news, I got superb smelling lotion from Alicia - local yogis, check out The Prancing Peacock Yoga Studio with gorgeous locations in Langhorne and Yardley - they also offer spa treatments and have a really cool shop. This lotion is from there and I can't get enough of it. I got an awesome sign and blinged out new bookmark and a bottle of wine from Amanda & Frank too. Birthday celebrations continue!
Other weekend things:
-I went out with chipped nails two days in a row and my life did not come crashing down around me.

  1. That rage face is well crafted, I'm scared! Ha! Hopefully Geege is on the mend. I don't do well on no sleep and I am used to not getting a lot, so I would have raged too. Mae is looking adorable as ever. I can't remember the last time I went bowling but for a good cause I'd strap on those weird shoes! Haha!

  2. Sorry your weekend got off to a bad start. That face! Yikes! ;-) Look out!
Hoping the pup is feeling better.
Sounds like the rest of the weekend wasn't too bad. Great food prep!
Love the spring flowers. I usher in spring with a pedi and new sandals in April. Spring is coming, despite the single digit temps here this morning.
    Have a great week!

  3. other than bag-sucking friday, i'm glad your rest of the weekend went well. and YES you do need to say fuck it sometimes; i did just that this weekend too. was supposed to take kayla swimming at 9am on saturday but on friday afternoon, i was lying on the couch and thought: why must i rush around on saturday morning?? so i called and rescheduled her lesson for the sake of relaxing LOL

today's weather is messed - it's MINUS 20. then it warms back up on friday. seriously, spring -- what is your fucking problem?!

  4. I hope Gus is ok, I'm sure Friday was a nightmare! Sometimes going to bed early solves everything ;-)

Sending spring weather and warmth your way, getting snow on the first day of spring is just a cruel joke!

  5. glad the rest of the weekend made up for a sucky friday!!! hope all is well now :)

  6. I was really hoping you skipped the Saturday workout and ate all the donuts. Because that is what I would have done if I had walked out to all that snow on Friday. Get it together, NE. Those pups are the best influence. I vote they stay.

  7. hahaha about the nails. i have given up painting my nails because they always chip, and while i don't care other people seem to notice. anyway. sorry friday was so sucky, but go you for staying strong on saturday and sunday! i totally had a bit of a work hard then say fuck it weekend and it was glorious. hope Gus is ok! the mac and cheese-ish sounds very intriguing.

  8. We also went bowling this weekend. The forces were not with me and I bowled probably my worse string of games ever. I woke up to snow on my car 5 out of 7 days last week. So over it!

Also your dogs are spoiled. Homemade food and everything! :)

  9. I'd say you had an incredibly productive weekend! I'm jealous of your meal prep. what's this savory oatmeal you talk about? Sounds deeeelish!! What fun at bowling!! I'm glad you bought yourself those flowers- I LOVE doing that!

  10. Even though the weekend started off rough, I'm glad you had a wonderful time!! You were super productive and all that meal prep sounds amazing!! I haven't been bowling in forever...now I want to go!! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  11. That pizza and the cannoli cake looked amazing.

Sorry about all your snow...for once, we are not the ones getting hammered with snow. In fact, all of ours is gone, thank god, and we finally took down the Christmas decorations so we aren't those neighbors anymore.

I need 99 cent iced coffee. Too bad I have to get on the highway to get to our DD. Thank fuck they are everywhere in Florida and the cookie dough iced coffee is back.

  12. What a weekend! I hate that it was snowing so hard for you on the first day of spring, though. It was "chilly" (For NC) on our first day of spring but went right up to 80 the next day so it's hard to complain.

  13. I try to spend $5 or less on flowers for my vase.

You can never have to many bookmarks, mine seem to constantly disappear.

Something good...I paid about $60 in gas for all my travels this weekend and parked with a half of a tank left. Yes to cheap gas!

  14. That snow HAS to be our last one. I do not care if I ever see snow again. The only good kind is little flurries that melt away and only occur in December. Gussie seems to be doing better, thank Goddess. A fun filled weekend for you and Mike Doyle. I feel like I got a great amount of good sleep this weekend. Have a happy week, everyone.
    Love, Your Momma

  15. You poor thing- Friday sucked!! :( I hope Gus is okay!! And I'm glad you just called it a night and went to bed at 7pm, sometimes that's just the only option. I freakin' love your food prep ideas/inspiration- please never stop that! :)

  16. Glad Gus is ok, sorry you had such a rough Friday!

  17. I am impressed you can find $3 flowers! The cheapest I can ever find is $5, but I think it is a great deal considering what some people spend!

  18. I hope Gus is alright! I love cheap flowers. I always try to have some in the house. That pizza looks so good. I want it in my mouth.

  19. Your meals for the week sound delish! I had to go to a party Sunday afternoon that didn't start until 3. I'm so freaking tired today and just not in the mood to do anything productive. I have a post that I started writing and I was just staring at the screen so I gave up. Bleh. Hope you have a great start to the week!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yuck! That is NOT the way one wants to ring in the first day of spring!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Oh no! What happened to Gus? I hope he is OK!
We are supposed to have snow here today. I'm completely blaming myself because I put my winter boots and coat away on Saturday

    ReplyDelete
  22. Is Gus OK????

And i love that picture of you are disgruntled after being soaked in the snowy yuck yuck. Friday was awful right?

Bowling is so much fun - I am not GREAT at it, but I always have fun!

Second post with amazing pizza pictures!!!!

And good for you getting your 40min in, and missing 1 day in 31 days, you are ROCKING it!

  23. That was one scary resting bitch face! But, truth be told, that is how I looked most of the day as well. How is Gus doing, been thinking about him!

  24. Cannolis are the best desert ever.

Glad Gus is feeling better. I did not enjoy my weekend which makes me mad but at least I read a lot on Sunday. That helps.

  25. I hope Mr. Gus is okay! Sounds like you had a packed weekend!

  26. Another super fun and productive weekend (minus the start of it, sorry :( - I loved this wording "I was in bed by 7 p.m. and everyone was safer for it.").

I hate when life happens when I'm in a good workout mode and I miss a workout when I'm on a streak, bummer!! Good job on Sunday though for getting it in again!!

My Mom is from Doylestown :) Brunch looks and sounds good. Though I had brunch sat, sunday and a client brunch this AM so honestly- I am so overstuffed.

  27. I hope Gus is okay....poor guy...and I still can't believe you guys got MORE snow!! What in heck? If I were you, I would laid with the pups alllllll weekend long. Hope today is warmer....

  28. I hope Gus is ok!!! That is never fun. Ugh more snow, I hope Spring comes very soon for you guys! It sounds like your weekend turned around, so yay for fun weekends! Wishing you warmer weather!

  29. If I don't get enough sleep I get the same exact way. All rage and crappiness. I am sorry it is snowing again. I will try really hard not to complain about the 80 degree weather in March here. We really need the rain!! I hope Gus is okay??

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh, I need one of those mugs, but for Diet Cokes. Or Sweet Tea.

    ReplyDelete
  31. sorry your weekend started off bad, boo! You can totally take breaks on your workouts! but that is frustrating and I would have been pissed too. Hope Gus is doing okay!

    now i'm hungry.

  32. Sorry your Friday got started off wrong! I hope Gus is ok! The ER vet is always a scary visit for what is going on with the dog...and for the bill. ick! I love fresh flowers and I need to get some for my house ASAP! They just make everything better. I cant wait to see your butternut squash mac n cheese! That sounds delicious! And healthier than the regular kind. Tell me about these DD perks? Clearly I am missing out. I am going to go dream about pizza now ok?! Have a great week!

  33. My friend had cannoli cake at her wedding reception 7 years ago, I can still taste how wonderful it was! Sadly no one down here makes anything close to it.

    ReplyDelete
  34. seriously.. how much did that first day of spring suck!? We still have snow covering our yard

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm glad I'm not the only one who flies into a rage over snow.

Man I want one of the Dunkin cups!

    ReplyDelete
  36. That pizza looks delicious! I'm so o ER this cold weather. Springlike temps can make an appearance at anytime!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Excited for this mac n' cheese recipe. Also - I'm curious what you do for your savory oatmeal? I haven't been able to master it yet, I feel like mine is missing something. I'm very jealous of your $.99 coffee refills and pretty flowers!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Your face in that first pic... priceless and I can relate. I usually find it's better to turn in early on days when I feel like that too. My kids actually suggest it from time to time lol. Oh girl, I need some really good pizza in my life. That sounds amazing!!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Although the weekend started off shitty, the rest sounds like you had a great time. Always yummy food preps (can't wait to read the recipe tomorrow) and then time with friends is always great! The dessert on IG looked amazing. Sometimes you just gotta indulge!

    ReplyDelete
  40. WOW! Even with your laying around with the dogs time, you packed that weekend full of all sorts of good stuff!

Don't think I'm creepy for saying this, but I just think it's true and compliments are nice...You've got a really pretty smile.

Also, the last line of the blog cracked me up...because one of my nails broke yesterday, and it cracked into my real nail, and it hurts, so I won't be able to get it fixed for a few days, and I'm kinda panicking about that. (Yes, run on sentences rule!)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hope Gus is ok!! I felt that same way when I walked outside to go to work this morning! It was ridiculousness. Spring needs to show it's face now!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Sorry you had a crappy Friday (hope pup is okay) but the rest of your weekend looked great! I can't wait for this recipe tomorrow!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I totally wish we had a DD around here, I would not mind .99 iced coffee until June!

    ReplyDelete
  44. The first day of spring was a joke. I don't think any of us actually believed it was going to snow, so all kinds of disappointment in my office. Cannoli cake sounds amazing! I hope Gus is ok!!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Mmmmm cannoli cake!! What's wrong with Gus? And I know you preach amazon pantry for a lot of your grocery shopping, but when do you find time to get the dairy/meat/other shopping?!?

    ReplyDelete
  46. That was a shitty start to the weekend but so glad it ended off great. Pizza with the fam sounds like a good time!! I hope Gus is ok!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Bahahaha... that first picture of you is awesome! :D
We got a DUSTING of snow the other night but luckily nothing crazy for a few weeks now. I can't believe people are still getting hit so hard. RUDE!
Pete once bought a $75 Starbucks mug that was supposed to give him free coffee for a year or something stupid like that... AND HE NEVER USED IT! lol
