March Recommendations

Skimmers, recommendations are in bold. Anything that's colored text is a clickable link. This month all the recommendations are from me because it's my birthday month and I do what I want. Boom.

1. DD Perks Program: Frequent Dunkin Donuts guests, you need this. You get points when you pay with a gift card associated with your account - I keep it on the app on my phone. When you reach 200 points, you get a free medium beverage. It's not hard to get there. You also get offers and coupons.

2. Iris pet food container: Now that my dogs eat two different types of food, I wanted something that would be one unit but keep them separate. This is perfect. I fit a 24 pound bag of food in the bottom and about 10 pounds in the top. This will serve you even if you don't have two different foods - you can store treats in the top too.

3.  Bodum Chambord 8 cup French Press. People were always all oh my god, french press coffee is divine. I wondered how it could be so incredibly different. It just is. Smoother, richer, deeper. I love it.

4.  Weight Loss Cardio Kick with Violet Zaki. If I'm going to stick with exercise, I need variety. When I work out at home, I have to switch it up a lot. This is good, quick (warm up/workout/cool down in 31 min), and most importantly of all Violet is not annoying. It's $10 right now on Amazon.

5. Never say you're bored. It implies that you aren't smart enough or resourceful enough to entertain yourself.

What are you recommending this month?

  1. Things I never say: I'm bored and I'm busy. They both annoy me. (Well, sometimes I say I'm busy because of course I am, but I try not to be that annoying person who just goes on and on about how busy they are all the time).

  2. I always have the hardest time thinking of gifts for my parents, but they would love the french press!! xo, Biana - BlovedBoston

  3. I use the Perks app too, and I love my Starbucks app...same idea. Love the French press...thank you!

  4. that weight loss cardio kick video is tempting...but the problem is I never stick to working out. I should probably start with sticking to working out in general before I go and buy stuff.

  5. I need to join the DD perks program, I'm a DD addict! I also have that dog food container, it is great! I use the top for treats and the bottom for the food.

  6. i'm with you on the bored thing. kids get bored due to their limited resources (although i hate it when kayla says that because i look at ALL THE TOYS SHE HAS so i can't see how boredom is possible) but if you're a grown-ass adult? you are not doing life right if you can legit say you're bored.

  7. I need those pet containers. And yeah...the whole "bored" thing shouldn't exist in our vocabulary at this point in life.

  8. I recently started the DD perks after seeing you talk about it!!!

  9. I am never, ever bored. My mantra today is I am disciplined. In other words, don't graze all day and night, take care of myself, mind, body, soul. Eating and drinking and doing whatever I think I want is not caring for myself. I need to try a cup of coffee from your French press. I enjoy grinding my beans daily and brewing in a coffee maker. I am interested to know the difference. That exercise video sounds just right! Good recs. Happy birthday month.

  10. The worst was when I told my mom I was bored as a kid. Holy shit. If you were bored, she found things for you to do, usually some ridiculous cleaning project (the absolute worst was taking her collection of ceramic elephants off of the shelves and dusting them and the shelf). I find myself doing the same. If John tells me he is bored, I can always find something for him to do. Poor Jack someday.

  11. I love that photo from Niagra Falls!! Every time I "work out" at home, I end up sitting on the couch and watching. Usually while eating Oreos. I don't care for French press coffee, a bit too strong for me, but Steve has that so e one! Also, both you and Brie recited a DD Perk for a free cup that gets you 99 cent iced coffees. I didn't receive this email, I've been bugging out! I was brutally rebuffed! What the hell Dunkin, I am a loyal customer! I used my perks app twice yesterday!!

  12. That dog container thing is an awesome find. Does the top container just set on the other one? And your number 5...completely going to use that with the teenager daughter.

  13. That pet food container - I may just get that. Between the Cats and Alaska - I need something to consolidate ALL THE FOOD.

French Press - I so need one of those!!! Not like I really need to extra caffeine!!!

  14. I love my pet food container. It makes me so happy that I can wheel it in and out of it's little spot and I don't have to look at an ugly pet food bag!

  15. I was just thinking at Dunkin Donuts the other day why don't they have a rewards program or something. HA! I very much enjoy #5 ... I used to think that more often than I should and found a quote similar to that and have tried to not have that mentality since!

  16. Andddd ordering that dog food container immediately.

  17. that dog food container looks like heaven. we have so much dog food crap everywhere. seriously. and yes to never being bored.

  18. I do love a good french press coffee! I recommend the Battery Doctor app to manage my battery use, Waze to always calculate my fastest route home, and the local library.

  19. ha, I love Maggie Smith. I know those are scripted lines but I can still see her just making that up.

I don't have a need for that dog containor but I will say that if I had dogs that had two separate types of food, that would be invaluable! Great design.

And I am hoping once we move I will have space in my family room to do home workouts again! Nice option when i don't want to leave the d*mn house.

  20. hmmmm might need to check out that pet food container, i feel like i need to organise the mess that is the cat food. that would have been handy when we had kitten and cat food. anywho. my husband just got his espresso machine and he loves it, maybe i'll get him the french press thingy for his birthday. i can't remember the last time i said i was bored, i treasure my free time now lol

  21. K was just telling me we need a container for Lola's food so I'll check out your rec. Love that photo of you at Niagra falls btw!!

  22. I get people (men particularly who would like me to entertain them) telling me they are bored all the time. Grown ass adults... I don't get it, GTFO. I always have nine hundred million things to do.

    DD Perks!! I need this!

    ReplyDelete
  23. This pet food container....need it now. Gus and Bandit eat two types of food and we are storing them in big trash cans right now...this one is so much cuter!! Ha! Thanks for the rec!

  24. I haven't tried the french press yet, I do love coffee and my Keurig tends to do the job but it would be a nice backup. I just got a new workout DVD but I love switching it up, an instructor who is not annoying is so important!

  25. Preach on the "bored" comment. Someone said it to me the other day and I responded that I couldn't remember the last time in my life I felt bored- lol! I don't have dogs, but that container looks perfect- freakin' love Amazon Prime :)

  26. I kind of go with Betty Draper's philosophy: Only boring people are bored. Like I can ALWAYS find something to do. It's a desire thing. If a kid at school tells me they're bored, they get a giant packet of worksheets to do.

I do like the French Press.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I have the DD app too but keep forgetting to reload the card- gah! And completely agree with #5... I don't know how anyone can be "bored" when there is so much out there to keep us entertained 24/7!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I need that DD app! I love that place.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I love the Dowager. She is possibly my favorite character on Downton. Besides Sybil and Matthew and Rose and pretty much every character who leaves the show.

I'm with you on the variety of workouts. I can't do the same one over and over again. Probably why I didn't like any of the Jillian Michael's DVDs.

  30. Ohhh that pet food container is a great idea. I really need to try to get Gracie on a senior diet. I am just not sure how I am going to get her to eat HER food and Mac to eat HIS...they always want what the other has!!! We talked about DD perks yesterday and I so need to get my butt in there!!! I am intrigued by the french press. What kind of coffee do you use with it?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I need that DD perks program in my life! And also loving the Maggie Smith meme my favorite Dowager/Professor McGonnagel!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm using the Starbucks app which is just costing me more money because I'm obsessed with getting to Gold level. My recommendation is lame but I found these scent sachets (or whatever they're called) with the built in hanger hook and I put them in almost every closet. It's a linen scent that's not too strong so my closets smell fresh. It's the little things!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Ohhhhh that's what a French Press is. Here we call it a cafetiere. I always wondered when people talked about their French Presses... What a thicko! In my defence, I don't drink coffee so I have no reason to know what it would be called in the US!

Also absolutely with you about never saying you're bored. There's always something fun to do, and if there isn't, well I can give you about 40 jobs that need doing for starters. Still bored?!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I love the never say you're bored. There's always SOMETHING you can do whether fun or not. There are things to be done!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I want to check out that DVD. My foot is still acting up though. :( I also hate when people say they're bored.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I love #5 and man I really want that French press. Coffee is my criptonite I tell ya!

    ReplyDelete
  37. French Press YES! I always love that. You'll have to try making your old cold press for summer too!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'm not a coffee drinker so I don't get the French press thing... but Pete looooves his! He also has this one called "AeroPress" that's his absolute FAVORITE "machine" to make coffee with. They have them on Amazon.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Bored has never been in my vocabulary. I thought I might be 'bored' today on my run because my ipod was dead, but nope. Never felt bored once. I use a percolator for coffee, but I do hear amazing things about French Press.
PS. I forgot to say on the last post that my top pics for trips that are close to you would be Baltimore, DC, Nantucket (Triple Eight Distillery/Vineyard is awesome), and even Williamsburg, VA. If you go to Williamsburg, look up 'A Chef's Kitchen'. You have to make reservations months in advance, but it's one of the coolest experiences I've ever had. I love that whole area of the East Coast!
