When you meet up with friends new or old for lunch, conversation is usually free flowing from one thing to the next. Sit down with me and Jenn from Hello Rigby and chat for a while. Do you have something to add, or something you agree or disagree with? Chime in in the comments! p.s. - if the text is colored, it's clickable!
Jenn: Culottes. I'm really not sure who these work on, but it's definitely not me.
Steph: Male celebrities in hammer pants. It's ridiculous. Or men wearing their pants hanging off of their ass in general.
Via pinterest & teen.com |
Jenn: Madewell. Their skinny skinny and legging styles are my favorite.
Steph: I hate jeans. I know this is universally considered the wrong opinion to have.
I always tell people to buy...
Jenn: Closet staples. A comfortable pair of black pumps, a classic little black dress, and a fitted black blazer. Apparently I like black.
Steph: I basically wear cardigans and pants. Not a fashionista here. I think Jenn has this one down.
Jenn: Some variation of this outfit. Mostly the slip ons... I wear those with almost everything.
Steph: Oh, those are cute. For me, it's basically a cardigan. I am the cardigan queen. If the day ends in y, I'm probably wearing a cardigan.
We're here for lunch, right? My go to lunch order is...
Jenn: A sandwich of some kind. My favorites are a few blocks from my office, a tuna melt and something called the Pavo Diablo (Turkey, Avocado, Spinach, Poblano Peppers, Havarti, and Chipotle Aioli).
Steph: I am a huge fan of the BLT or turkey club. When I don't want to pick something up, I like a good salad as long as it has no fruit in it.
I take my coffee...
Jenn: Black.
Steph: With just a little bit of cream.
Wait, before I forget - three books I recommend...
Jenn: 1. The Girl You Left Behind by Jojo Moyes, 2. Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell, and 3. Necessary Lies by Diane Chamberlain
Steph: 1. The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver, 2. Shotgun Lovesongs by Nickolas Butler, and 3. Beach Music by Pat Conroy
What I like most about reading is...
Jenn: Being able to escape into a different world. I listen to a lot of audiobooks while doing mundane chores around the house and while driving, so it makes these activities a little more fun. :)
Steph: My response to this question can best be expressed in a montage.

Jenn: Margit from Julep!
Steph: Aphrodite's Pink Nightie by OPI.

Jenn: Oh that's tough! I'm always trying new ones. I've always been a fan of Covergirl's Lash Blast line as a budget-friendly but still great option. I also like Clinique's High Impact line.
Steph: I know, I feel like I have tried every mascara out there. Honestly my favorite is under $10 - L'Oreal Million Lashes. I like Clinique too.
When my lips are chapped I use...
Jenn: Malin & Goetz Mojito Lip Balm in the day and Julep Lip Luxe Lip Treatment at night. I have dry lips almost always.
Steph: Rosebud Salve lip balm or Fresh Sugar lip stuff.
On my next vacation, I'm going to...
Jenn: Paris in June! I'm so excited.
Steph: I can't wait to read about that, we're heading there next year for a few days so I'm anxious to see where you stay, etc. Up next for us is a week at the beach with my parents, Stephen & Aubrey in Emerald Isle, North Carolina. I've never been there. I love going places I've never been.
One of the best trips I've ever taken was to...
Jenn: Disneyland! I loved it because...we went with 26 other members of my boyfriend's family, and we all stayed in one house. It was insane but also a ton of fun. I mean, how can you not have fun at Disneyland?
Steph: My Disneyworld trips always rank high too because seriously, Disney. Chicago always sticks out in my mind because I loved the city and the food and I feel like we got a lot in on that trip.
Thanks to Jenn for joining me for a virtual ladies lunch. Please visit Jenn on her blog Hello Rigby, and follow along with her on Twitter and Instagram too.
What about you? Please weigh in on some of these scintillating topics in the comments. Or the fact that it's already the last Friday in March. Birthday month, stay longer.
OMG, what a FUN and awesome collaboration! I really enjoyed reading this one! Good job!
ReplyDeleteYou asked me to join y'all for lunch, right?
ReplyDeleteA fashion trend I wish would die...
Me: You know those black braid-like, plastic-like choker necklaces that kinda look like band tribal tattoos? Yea...I've seen several young girls wearing them (like enough that I started asking myself what store/brand brought this back).
If I could only wear one brand of jeans forever, it would be...
Me: That all dependes on if I'm Fat Erin, Thin Erin, or somewhere in between. I love jeans, but I am not loyal to any one brand.
I always tell people to buy...
Me: I sell jewellery. I tell people that if a woman has a pair of diamond earrings, a pair of pearl earrings, and a pair of hoops...she really can be set for any occasion. That is if she has pierced ears.
My daily uniform clothes-wise is...
Me: Dress with flats, sandals or wedges during spring/summer or boots during autumn/winter
Steph: A cardigan. I am the cardigan queen. If the day ends in y, I'm probably wearing a cardigan. I kept this here because it was too hilarious to delete.
We're here for lunch, right? My go to lunch order is...
Me: Salad or sandwich
I take my coffee...
Me: I hate coffee.
Wait, before I forget - three books I recommend...
Me: Depends on who is reading...The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows, 102 Minutes by Jim Dwyer and Kevin Flynn
What I like most about reading is...
Me: Escaping, learning, imagining
Oh, this nail polish color I'm wearing? It's...
Me: OPI Green on the Runway
My favorite mascara is...
Me: I regularly have 6-8 different mascaras in rotation...but I'm really liking Rimmel's Scandal Eyes Rockin' Curves for the affordable option
When my lips are chapped I use...
Me: Vaseline
On my next vacation, I'm going to...
Me: Home to Texas in May
One of the best trips I've ever taken was to...
Me: Summer of 2005 - My cousin and I went to see one of my best girlfriends who was living in Paris at the time. We also went to Bern and Interlaken, Switzerland and Barcelona, Spain that trip. It solidified my cousin to be the sister that I never had, and the three of us created a spectacular girls' trip full of memories including dancing in discos, eating tapas & drinking wine, and bungy jumping!
I love this :)
ReplyDeleteI totally need to go to Disney. It's the one thing you BOTH agreed on :)
Love the answers. I am not that much of a fan of jeans either. Much prefer a maxi dress or something comfy. Love the Alan Bennett quote, so perfectly true. The Julep nail color is fabulous! My trip to North Carolina is one of my favorites, I love the south and spending time with a good friend is always nice.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, how freaking cool! We need to do this tomorrow! Except, it won't be virtual, it'll real life!! So excited to see you tomorrow, it's been awhile!! <3 <3
ReplyDeleteSteve and I were just talking about how much fun we had in Chicago
Great post. I abhor maxi dresses. I agree on your mascara choices. I have gotten Clinique in their giveaways.
ReplyDeleteI love the spandex in jeans. Coffee, always brewed at home with sweet n low and skim milk. I have been reading the internet and social media more than I read books. I am getting lost in The Blacklist & Empire. I love NJ beach vacations, but so expensive & our pool makes the summer seem like we are always on vacation. Plus, boarding our dogs is expensive and we like to be with them. I am a homebody. Lunch is filet maxim at Carluccis. Arugula, filet, cheese and an awesome sauce on foccacia(sp) bread. Loved this post. Happy weekend. Love, your Momma
i haven't worn jeans since october last year when i bought my 4 pairs of jeggings. then work fuck off time happened and i haven't worn jeggings since jan 30 because i've been i sweats this whole time LOL.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you clarified that those are not your real nails... I was going to be like "how on earth do you get your nails to look like that?!" :)
ReplyDeleteI only like skinny jeans with lots of stretch so basically jeggings. My bestie just told me that bell bottoms were coming bag and I can't even. I use rose bud salve religiously too. Men... pull you effing pants up yes please. I need some slip ons... super cute!
ReplyDeleteI love Jenn's book recommendations.
ReplyDeleteMy uniform is yoga pants and a hoodie because I quite enjoy dressing like a homeless junkie.
YES to Disney! Can't wait to go back next month.
Barbara Kingsolver is one of my favorite authors.
ReplyDeleteLove the Alan Bennett quote about reading.
A BLT is also one of my favorite go to lunches as well.
I think it's decided that I need a BLT for lunch today!! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteJenn's sandwich - the Pavo Diablo - DAMNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN can you ship that to me? Sounds SO good. Might actually just MAKE IT!
ReplyDeleteThis was a fun post - and Culottes - I mean - What? the What? the WHAT?
Very cool post! I'm so jealous of the travel plans. This post also made me think of my go-to lunch and it's always been a tuna melt. I also love that Julep nail color! So pretty!
ReplyDeleteI love this. I especially like how you color-coded the names (is that weird?).
ReplyDeleteOh jeans. How I hate thee...I have one pair of Jcrew stretchy skinny jeans I will wear maybe once every other week. I believe I have 3 more pairs in my closet but they haven't been worn in months. I was thinking yesterday I should get a new pair...
Oh, and I saw pixie pants at oldnavy.com and I know you mentioned liking them...are they true to size?
I have a love-hate relationship with jeans too. I kind of just want to wear dresses and cardigans all the time.
ReplyDeleteI think if I had my own pool and a big backyard, we'd probably never go on vacation. HAHAHA!
I love turkey sandwiches, but I also am not a huge fan of fruit in my salad, except dried cranberries...I can do those!
ReplyDeleteI didn't even know they were called culottes but yes, die. also hammer pants NO. on anyone. I'm glad y'all both recommened some books on my to read list right now and chose drugstore brand mascara!
ReplyDeleteBeach Music and Poisonwood Bible are two of my favorite books. I think this means I have to read your third recommendation!
ReplyDeleteI don't love culottes either except I will say the model wears them quite perfectly, it's like the first example I've seen of them done well.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes after spending so much on expensive mascara in my life, I exclusively use L'Oréal now. So worth it. (Isn't that their slogan?)
Cute lunch date!!!! I love this idea! My favorite mascara is Maybelline Waterproof Define-A-Lash. The bristles are stiff and spaced apart so my lashes aren't a clumpy mess. What a packed trip to Chicago!!!! I must read your post in detail if I ever visit again. Donut ice cream sandwich?!?! Yes.
ReplyDeleteI need to try your mascara recommendation, I haven't tried that one from L'Oreal before! Also, that's awesome you guys are heading to Paris too! Unfortunately our accommodations probably won't work for you - we're staying at a large flat with multiple bedrooms we found on AirBNB because we're going with Dave's co-workers - they'll be attending a 2 day conference while we're there! I still would check out AirBNB though... so much cheaper than hotels!
ReplyDeleteLove this concept of the ladies lunch! We should have done something like this when we did the interview. I wear a lot of cardigans to work as well but not that it's getting warm, I need to do short sleeve or sleeveless.
ReplyDeleteLoving this series and yay for Disney, Chicago, and hating on the Biebs!
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday <3
what a fun fun post!! yay Disney!! They are definitely some of my fave vacations as well. i don't think hating jeans is the wrong opinion - i hate most cardigans, i know most people love them, but they just don't sit right on me and i never feel comfy. i know that seems impossible, but if they are the shorter, cute kind, they just never sit right and i want to scream what am i doing wrong?! i love the bigger chunkier ones aka blankets with arms.i have just spent far too long talking about cardigans.
ReplyDeletethat alan bennett quote about reading? YES. i LOVE when that happens. that is reading in a nutshell. speaking of, haven't read any of the books you recommended, what! need to change that quick smart.
ps Jenn I am going to Paris in June too, WHAT!
have a good weekend!
I love this! Some of my answers... I don't hate jeans, but I currently can't wear them because of scarring issues. If I'm drinking coffee at home I use flavored creamer but if I have it out I just put some cream and maybe a smidge of cinnamon (no sugar). I don't remember the names of what's on my nails but they're a mint green color right now. And I feel like mascara is the bane of my existence sometimes.
ReplyDeletecullottes = awful. hammerpants too. My nails = au natural by God. No mascara, ever. Dry lips = Blistex Complete Moisture. Favorite vacation place so far = Sedona. Favorite books... too hard, but I LOVED Poisonwood Bible, an all time fave. Next vacation = ?????
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun virtual lunch!!! I agree that cullottes and hammerpants are always a no! My favorite mascara right now is Tarte, my favorite lip stuff is Rosy Lips from Vaseline. My favorite vacation spot is currently Gulf Shores but only because I haven't been to Disney World yet. I need to go!!! And Jenn's book recommendations are all on my to read list! Have a great weekend, I am going to go dream about a turkey club!
ReplyDeletelol, sounds like you guys had a nice lunch date!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea!
ReplyDeleteI'll chime in on a few things that stood out to me:
I also wear a lot of cardigans, but I cannot comprehend hating jeans! I pretty much live in them (it helps that I can wear them every day to work).
Everything in that photo montage about reading was perfect, especially the quote on the left.
My favorite mascara is bareMinerals Lash Domination. It's not the cheapest mascara out there, but at around $18 it's not the most expensive either. This mascara actually makes me look like I have long, thick eyelashes (something I don't naturally have). It's one of the only mascaras I've ever tried that I can honestly say I love.
Paris is amazing! My husband and I went for the first time in November, and I only wish we'd spent more time there. We're still trying to figure out what we want to do for our next vacation. We'll probably try to do something in November again to celebrate our wedding anniversary, but we've been torn about it for a while. While we'd both love to do something big, we're also aggressively saving for a couple of things (new car for him and a downpayment on a house) so it doesn't seem like the best idea to blow a bunch of money on a vacation. I know we'll go somewhere, but it could potentially just be a road trip/weekend getaway kind of thing.
Oh, and 3 of my book recommendations (this is tough because I've read so many I love, but these are the ones that immediately came to mind): 1. The Way the Crow Flies by Ann-Marie MacDonald 2. Geek Love by Katherine Dunn 3. Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood
Wow, this comment is so much longer than I initially thought it would be. Anyway, this was a fun read and a great way to get readers involved!
I like my coffee black too! Yay her for going to Paris in June. I was supposed to go to Europe this year but instead Im going to Virginia, NYC and Peru and will save for another Australia trip!
ReplyDeleteI hate jeans too. I'm finding a multitude of reasons why we should be friends. The least of which being no one understands my hatred of jeans.
ReplyDeleteDude. You don't like jeans?!
ReplyDeleteI want to try Rose balm but I hate when I have to stick my fingers in shit like that! Can't use it during the day then.
We were just reminiscing about our trip to Chicago the other day! Disney will always be my fave.
ReplyDeleteI have a love/hate relationship with jeans too. When I find the perfect ones with the right amount of stretch, the fit, length, and a waist that doesn't come up to my boobs, then I love them. It's just soooo hard to find that.
Such a fun post! I agree that both of those trends need to die! I also love Disney and cardigans and Rosebud Salve.
ReplyDeleteI love all your reading collage quotes. And I'm definitely a cardigan queen too. Thank goodness for them because I'm always cold AND they make a questionable t-shirt just a tad more professional sometimes.
