Saturday I ventured out into the frigid tundra to hit Pier One (I got my favorite ginger peach candles on clearance) and Target before my February spending freeze began. I also stopped to visit Gamma and Pop.
Saturday night we went to Lucy's surprise 60th at Cafe Michelangelo. Really good food and good times with Dad & Carol's framily as always.
Organizing: The top left is the before and the top right is the after of the big middle compartment of my dresser. I also organized my loose photos using organizers from The Container Store and my trusty label maker.
Weekly food prep: savory oatmeal for breakfasts, cucumbers/peppers/bananas/hard boiled eggs for snacks, stuffed pepper soup from the freezer for lunch, and oven baked fajitas and cucumber and tomato salad for a few nights of dinner. Other dinners will be turkey/spinach/cheese burgers and roasted sweet potatoes.
Sunday I lounged around, did some weights, change sheets, read a book, caught up on the DVR (CSI and How to Get Away With Murder) and made some food to snack on while watching commercials...I mean the Super Bowl: roasted red pepper hummus (served with cucumbers and peppers), oven baked chicken wings that I burnt to shit but were still edible, and pigs in a blanket, some with cheese.
I also took a page from Dawn at Life in the Sack's book and laid my clothes out for the week in one of the the spare bedrooms. Boom.
Linking up with Biana at B Loved Boston for Weekending
Mae is just too darn cute! Glad you got some purchases in before the spending freeze. Good job on the organizing, I really should do that for my photos. All the food looks delish.
ReplyDeleteSuch a great weekend!!! I have to say organizing always makes me feel better - especially when it's done on the weekend then I feel productive!! Love that you already planned out all your outfits for the week - will make life much easier in the mornings! xo, Biana - BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteLol when I saw tanning and said WHAT!!
ReplyDeleteGreat food prep and laying outfits in spare room for the week.
I like well done wings! Have a happy, warm week.
Love, Your Momma
Those snacks look incredible - pigs in blankets are my favourite thing ever (except here we have them wrapped in bacon rather than pastry - double meat!) and that clothes laying out thing is genius. I'm going to go and do that ASAP (ie in about 7 hours time...)
ReplyDeleteOh Mae! So cute!!! Your meals for the week sounds delicious! I made cucumber salad last week for lunches.
ReplyDeleteIn the past I laid my clothes out for the week but rarely committed to my choices and would get pissed tearing my closet apart to find something else. I have issues. Have a great week!
Laying your clothes out for the week is a freaking stroke of genius! Now, I hardly ever leave the house so it's probably not necessary for me--but back when I worked out of the house it would have been epic. Also, pigs in a blanket are probably one of my favorite things ever! Yum!
ReplyDeleteI love Mae snuggling in for a nap!!! Your grandparent selfie is too cute!
ReplyDeleteMae!
ReplyDeleteI was horrified to read tanning...thank you for clarifying!
ReplyDeleteHow do you like the picture boxes?
Awesome ... keep it up. I did my cook prepping like a boss on Sunday. Bam for the win.
ReplyDeleteSo much prep....it makes my heart happy! I am actually entering a "spending freeze" of February as well....am going to attempt to not eat out the whole month....also I have to really crack down on our budget!
ReplyDeleteMae is too cute!! I'm doing a spending freeze this month too. Good luck!! Those chicken wings look really good!! I prefer my wings to a bit burnt.
ReplyDeleteI love the candle holder and the fresh flowers, if it's going to snow outside you need fresh flowers inside.
ReplyDeleteI am the WORST at buying shit and then waiting years to do anything with it. No joke, we had some shit here for 4 years before I did anything with it.
ReplyDeleteIt's always so much easier when you have your clothes laid out! I usually do it on Monday morning but by the end of the week I just pick up whatever is closest. lol
clothes for the week laid out?! brilliant! so brilliant.
ReplyDeletemae is so adorable with her smooshy face... i love the lamps you got at target, super cute! and i'm definitely bad about the buying things and forgetting to put them up or whatever. i bought new toilet paper holders because the ones we have annoy the crap out of me, and literally they have been sitting in the closet for 6 months.
the photo with your Gamma and Pop is so adorable :)
good luck with your spending freeze :)
I just picked the meals for next week/that I have to buy this weekend and I'm going to try a new sweet potato recipe! Also, pumpkin oatmeal. Since starting meal planning, breakfasts have become my favorite meal of the day.
ReplyDeleteThat clothes thing - that's brilliant! I've been trying to get my stuff ready the night before, but that always falls apart the first night I get to bed late. I almost always have time on Sunday night.
I sincerely almost had a heart attack when you said tanning!! haha ! Looks like a fun weekend, and score on the candles. I love surprise parties- especially ones at restaurants.
ReplyDeleteMae sleeping like that is so cute- haha! Love it :) I spy lamps in your cart too!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of laying all your clothes out for the week - I think I might definitely have to try that (and get in a good extra hour and 15 of sleep for the week :) ). Your Super Bowl eats sound great... and I am totally a fan of burnt wings... is that weird?
ReplyDeleteLove all the super bowl snacks. Great idea for laying out your outfits for the week. I usually lay out my outfit the night before to save 5-10 mins of searching but never thought to just plan out the whole week. It's a bit tough when FL can be 45 degrees one day and then 78 degrees the following day.
ReplyDeleteGirl I need to have a weekend like that!! Laying out clothes, food prepping, organizing and still living it up with a book!? Sounds like perfection to me!! I'm not a plain hummus eater, but I'll have to see if I can find the roasted red pepper recipe because that looks pretty good to dip my veggies in. Boomer tucks his nose into blankets, his pillow case, whatever he can so if he had a friend he would totally look just like Mae I'm sure all snuggled up with a buddy!
ReplyDeleteWow, such a productive weekend! Those lamps that you bought are so pretty. I need to check out Target because my bedside lamps are so old and gross looking. I ended up doing some food shopping and making a bunch of appetizers for the Super Bowl. Fun times!
ReplyDeleteI'm still in awe of all your weekly food prep, it all looks awesome and I'm sure it's a huge lifesaver. Now if only I could decide what I'm wearing in advance for the week and lay my clothes out too :-P
ReplyDeleteI had a food prep blitz yesterday, too. Zucchini bread muffins, pancake bites for the child's breakfasts, and oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. We also made hoisin meatballs. Yum.
ReplyDeleteIf it makes you feel better, we have paintings we bought 10 years ago in Key West that have yet to be framed and hung. Same with our big wedding picture. That's going on just about 11 years.
Kathy was just talking about laying out clothes the night before. Do you think my days would be more seamless if I selected the next days yoga pants, leggings or spandex the night before? I want some pigs in a blanket now. Would you believe the party I went to had none??? Un-American!
ReplyDeleteugh I need to organize my pics. let's not talk about how they're currently "stored"
ReplyDeleteI should lay out my clothes. It would make things so much easier.
ReplyDeleteAll the good food!! Yum. I am the worst at buying stuff and not doing anything about it. Case in point I bought and framed a travel map and Im yet to hang it. Its just sitting there ... haha
ReplyDeleteFor a minute I thought you actually went tanning and I was like WTF?! Looks like a fun and relaxing weekend. I love Pier 1 but hardly ever go there - I feel like none are located in places where I shop!
ReplyDeleteThose wings look really good...even burnt...but I kinda like things more on the burnt side.
