Friday Five: Post-Spending Freeze Planned Purchases

via
Tomorrow my February spending freeze will be over. Just in time for birthday month treat yo self.

I did well on my personal spending - I bought a Wawa Coffee on February 7 when my Keurig broke and a donut on Fat Tuesday not using my Dunkin Donuts gift card. We did have some household expenses this month - new Keurig, TV antenna - that were unplanned but still covered within the pre-set household budget. We also went out to dinner with friends on February 13 but MFD picked that tab up because I am his personal chef the rest of the time. I rarely pick up dinners out.

Since we didn't do much otherwise, I put all of my extra money towards my car payment, knocking a month and a half off the end date. Boom. On a high from that achievement, I treated yesterday like fuck this shit o'clock concerning the freeze. I suspended it two days before it was to end anyway and ordered the following from Amazon:

Sunday, my birthday month begins. I've been perusing Loft, Gap, and Old Navy for spring attire but nothing is lighting the world on fire. Pick it up, stores. I have some holes in my spring wardrobe and you're boring me. These are some of my planned purchases:

1. Rimmel Provacalips in Make Your Move
via
2. Anastasia Liquid Lips in Lovely or Pure Hollywood
via
3. Spring/summer quilt for our bed - Nothing in mind for this, I prefer to hunt in Marshalls, HomeGoods, & TJMaxx. Also more of a household purchase than a personal purchase, but one I'll enjoy making nonetheless.

4. Earthies Bindi flat in Biscuit. I'm strategically replacing some of my shoes with some that will provide support for my effed up feet. Hashtag old lady hashtag podiatrist told me to. Turns out not-ugly supportive shoes cost eleventy billion dollars (seriously, not on sale these are $150, I simply don't typically spend that on any shoe, let alone freaking flats), which is why the replacement is strategic.

5. A french press. Coffee coffee coffee.

And you? What do you have your eye on?

  2. i'm with you on needing stores to pick up their wardrobe game...I need some new shirts and nothing is standing out to me.

  3. check kitchen stuff plus. i just saw a nice french press (in the flyer) for $5. they're having a $5 blowout right now (for canadians, not sure about the US?).

i haven't been spending much either lately -- been too cold to go out and i can't stand shipping rates so that's why i've been keeping the purse strings tight. i came into $1000 no strings and i'm torn between spending $300 on a watch or dumping the entire thing against my mortgage... although i'm leaning towards the mortage. I DON'T LIKE BEING A RESPONSIBLE ADULT.

  5. I always love looking for quilts/blankets at TJ Maxx and Marshalls- they always have great stuff and for so much cheaper! When I went to buy a blanket once for full price somewhere, I was shocked by how expensive it was!!

  6. I love how you're just like screw it I'm going nuts and spending ... and buy organizers! Being an adult is dumb isn't it? I'm totally with you on Old Navy slacking lately. I have the credit card and with double points have been racking up the rewards but it's like ugh everything is terrible right now. I agree step it up!

  7. I do that too: Eh, this is almost over. Might as well buy all the stuff now.
I'm keeping track of what I spend while Scott is gone in an attempt to see where I can improve upon things
I'm not sure how I feel about Provocalips. I did get some but it kind of dried out my lips?
However, I love our French press. I want one of the stovetop espresso pots eventually.

  8. I've actually been thinking of getting a french press...I'm just not sure how often I'll use it. You'll have to post about it when you get it!

  15. Those flats are cute. Being that I bombed in February, the only things I'm looking at are river shoes (a necessity for vacation as we will be doing some light hiking in a rainforest), an ipad cover, and a small electronics traveling case.

  16. I've likewise done well on February spending freeze! I stuck to eating or drinking out only once a week and had no unplanned purchases, yay! I'm gonna try to wait to "treat myself" until after my birthday to see what my loved ones purchase for me. Can't wait to order some items from my Amazon and Nordstrom wish lists :)

Love the Pure Hollywood lip color!

    I do what I want.

  17. Congrats on making it through your freeze!! You definitely deserve to treat yourself. I haven't owned a pair of Reefs in forever, but now you totally just reminded me how comfortable they used to be!! Have a great weekend and enjoy some online shopping :)

  21. I have a French press but I never use it...actually, I use it to make loose leaf tea on occasion, but I always forget about it for coffee. I really want to get a pour-over coffee maker.

Did you ever get a Tarte blush????

    Those Bindi flats are adorable.

  22. Provacalips are on my list too but so many stores around me are sold out of any decent colors. I'm hoping the restock soon. Also those flats are gorgeous! I wish I could afford those. Happy almost birthday month! Cheers to us March babies!

  23. I am trying to be good and you are making me want all the things!! The lip gloss of course. Why do shoes have to be so expensive to be comfortable?!

  24. Aw man I don't think my comment went through. If it did, sorry for the repeat!

Since I quit my job with no backup, I'm about to go into a large, indefinite spending freeze lol!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Good for you! I've still been spending on things I don't really need but just want. But I really do need some new spring clothes and I would love to get some new bakeware goodies for my kitchen.

  26. Sounds like you did well on the freeze! Knocking money off the end of the car note is awesome! I am seriously hunting some new work/interview pieces. My last job was very casual so it's been 4 years since I really bought business attire. Time to freshen it up a bit! Have a great weekend Steph!

  27. Those are really cute flats!

I always paid more on my car when I could and now it's finally paid off. Happy dance.

  28. I've been watching the bedding sales because I need some new ones, BUT I'm trying to wait until I find a place! You did such a great job with your watch and paying off your car earlier feels awesome! Yay for Birthday month!!

  29. You are a better person than I. I told myself I'm on a spending freeze, then laughed out loud and went to Starbucks...

  30. Love the Reef sandals you chose! Reefs always has the comfiest flip flops.

  31. Well done on the February freeze - honestly you did waaay better than I would have!! We are all such enablers in the blogland, so right now I feel like it's more appropriate to list what I don't want, haha! But yes to that french press - I love mine!! Hope you have a great weekend, and definitely go ahead and treat yo self - you deserve it!

  32. Happy Birthday month! Yummy, coffee & new clothes. I'm trying to nail-down an espresso maker to buy.

  33. I will never tire of Donna and Tom.

I have nothing in mind thus far but I need some new clothes. Stores have a month to get it together before I start looking.

  34. Birthday month is the best month!! Make Your Move is one of the other colors I want to purchase!! Love it! I need some new running shoes, my tennis shoes are several years old and hurt my feet. Boo! Have a great weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  35. yay birthday month! i want that provacwhatever as well, keep meaning to go to walgreens and pick me some up.
love those bindi flats but hot damn expensive! but seriously, supportive flats are way better than.. well, non supportive flats. so i think i'll have to start strategically replacing as well.

  36. I laugh every time I see the stuffed shells in your header photo.

My wish list is giant. I got a few Visa gift cards for Christmas and took forever to pull the trigger on anything; I finally did and bought....wait for it...new sneakers. That I haven't worn yet. Womp womp.

I want a pair of Tieks, a new comforter (I am not allowed to buy one until we move), a crock pot with a timer, and about 7343 other things.

  37. We have a French press, but rarely use it.

I've never gotten bedding from TJ Maxx, but I should check it out. It's time to replace ours.

Those flats are cute! Bonus points for offering support!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Totally shaking my head in agreement with you, the stores need to step it up. I'm not finding anything I'm loving for Spring either! I do love that makeup organizer your ordered though. I need one!

  39. That's awesome about knocking so much off of your car payment! My car is a 2000. I'd love to have something newer, sure, but it is sooooo nice not having to worry about monthly payments. We just keep up with repairs and maintenance... still cheaper that way.

    ReplyDelete
  40. You are getting some good stuff! Ive been wanting provocalips. Love the flats and of course the french press!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Okay so I don't know how much support you need, but after my toe cramped up so badly at work that I wanted to cry on Friday during an event, I turned to the internet for a cheap/easy new flat. I didn't want to buy online. I need instant gratification. Enter the Payless Dexflex flats. They have some support (more any others I own) and they are pretty dirt cheap (there was a sale and a coupon this weekend so I got two pairs for $33 total). Wearing them today and loving them so far, except they could use more traction on the bottom. if I ever go back to blogging, I will likely recommend them after a few more days of wear!

  42. I've read mixed reviews on those Rimmel lippies, so I'm curious to hear what you think of them. That Anastasia True Hollywood color is very pretty! I haven't bought anything for spring yet, it's bumming me out. Nothing has caught my eye at all! Cute shoes, too!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Oooh, give me some tips about old lady shoes! I need something cute to wear when I go out and can't be in my Asics. Haha! And yes, they are so expensive!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I am considering buying a French press to bring to Spain. It's light, packable, and I won't have to live on instant coffee at home. I have no idea how to use it...is it easy?
