TWTW

1. As of 8 p.m. Friday night, our heat was restored. Can I get a FUCK YEAH? Then MFD bullied me into going to the gym. The gym...who are we? Raise your hand if you think we've been body snatched. My hand is raised, FYI.
2. My boys rarely lay like this anymore, especially on weekends when they're hot to get up and be President and VP of the A-hole Wakeup Committee.
3. Michelle and I had an awesome super early lunch at Pho Saigon. Philly friends, go there. And make sure you get the coffee Vietnamese style. We hit Ikea and Marshalls too. It was a fabulous girls day out that I didn't even have to shower for.
4. No fun awaited me back at home. The basement was torn apart from the heater situation, so I had to put that all back together. I ended up getting rid of a bunch of crap and packing my car up for a Goodwill donation this week. I also finally ditched all the DVD cases to make room for freaking Star Wars displays. And yes, this is the 1996 cinematic masterpiece Mother May I Sleep With Danger? starring Tori Spelling as Laurel. It's okay to be jealous of it.
5. Putting away the rest of my goods (towels from IKEA), realizing I forgot to actually put something I needed in the cart there, tea, and watching the first episode of the second season of The Fall rounded out Saturday night.
6. Sunday morning was a rainy, icy shit show. We slept in, changed sheets and put the new duvet on, and then just relaxed. Not as much as the dogs relaxed though.
7. While MFD was at church, I sat down to put together my IKEA cart with Gus's help. As soon as MFD got back, he was called in to finish it because putting shit together is not in my wheelhouse.
8. We're avoiding the processed food for the most part this month. This week's breakfast: hard boiled eggs (the brown spots on the pic below are from baking them - it's easier and they don't taste any different) and power breakfast or spinach muffins from the freezer. This week's lunch: spinach chicken orzo soup. Dinners are broiled tilapia, roasted carrots, and brown rice; broiled salmon, steamed cauliflower, and roasted sweet potatoes; chicken and brown rice with butternut squash and sauteed spinach; ground turkey with tomatoes, spinach, and mushrooms; and eggs scrambled with mushrooms and spinach.
9. We took MFD's Gram to dinner at Garden of Eatin on Sunday with the early birds. I hadn't been there before and it was good.
10. I closed Sunday out by finishing up laundry, laying my clothes out for the week, then getting in bed with a book and the dramatic flair of my Sunday night love, Downton Abbey.

Yikes...second weekend in a row I didn't use my real camera once. Not a good look. I pledge to do better in the future. Probably. If I feel like it.

For those of you that have off today, well...not only do I not have off, I have to be in early. So please, make your enjoyment a double for me. And take a minute to think about the life of the man we're observing today - someone who strove for equality and peace, who thought about how his actions impacted others and was mindful of improving the world around him. We could all take a page out of his book.

  2. They are so cuddly and adorable!! IKEA is always a good idea, mine is further away so I don't go nearly enough. Love the towels and the cart! Where are you going to put it? It was rainy and cold here so it was a reading day for me too.

  3. I am so happy you have your heat back. Good God! What an awful time to be off the grid. We had a quiet weekend too. Good luck with the unprocessed month...it's probably one of the best things you can do for yourselves. Have a great week!

  4. Thank God all of our people were safe and sound yesterday and it wasn't a work day. 60 car accidents, many injuries ,3 deaths. Glad to be able to text to check on all of my chickens.
Still icy this morning. Always drive safely. Thank the universe you have heat.
    Love, Your Momma

LOL. Yay for your menu this week! I have today off so put off my groceries/shopping until now. We ate out a lot this weekend and I miss real food.

  16. Even the pugs were tired of freezing their butts off... Their faces this weekend say it all. They also appear to be disappointed that you're not sharing your golden goodness in that glass... so if you wide up with one standing over you, you'll know why. I'm just saying. Now I wish I could sleep that soundly.

  17. I love shopping trips with my friends. On Friday night I went to HomeGoods with two friends and it was awesome! I have that same Ikea cart and I love it. It really helped to organize my crap and I love that it has wheels. OMG...Mother May I Sleep With Danger...I remember that movie. Ha ha!

  23. YAY HEAT!!!

I love that Ikea cart - I've been drooling over the turquoise one for a long time. It's always on the "must visit" list when I go see my mom...she lives about 45 minutes from one.

  24. IKEA is the worst!!!!!! They have cute stuff and great deals, but the putting it together part SUCKS!!! we got Logan a desk there and it took Ross three hours to assemble!! He said some not so nice words in the process!! Ha! And keep kicking it at the gym! We got this. Yay for the heater return....about dang time!! Have a great week!

  28. I love the pug loaves you have laying on your couch there! Too cute! Any girls trip that includes breakfast, Ikea and Marshall's sounds like a morning well spent in my book! Love your new finds! Glad you guys have heat again! Have a great week!!

  29. Oo I want that slice of cake. Yum.

    Yay for heat!

  30. I love the IKEA cart. I have been wanting that damn thing forever, and haven't pulled the trigger. I feel that, compared to other IKEA items, it is pricy and maybe that is why.

Garden of Eatin is a phenomenal restaurant name.

  31. I love pho and Vietnamese food! We have a few good places around here. I also make hardboiled eggs every Sunday so we have breakfast during the week but I've never thought to bake them...nice!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Such cute puppies! Mine have been particularly lazy this weekend, as well. Almost 5pm and one has only moved from one end of the couch to the other!! Love that little cart for IKEA - by the way, putting stuff together IS in my wheelhouse, but I'm still incapable of doing so when they only provide you with crappy pictures! -Dorrie @ Bear Den Plantation

  33. Yay for heat! My God Sunday was awful. I had to pick WM up at the airport at 2:30pm. Luckily by then all of the ice had melted, the bridges were reopened and it was "only" a no-visibilty downpour happening. That screaming you heard at 1:20pm? That was me driving across the Walt Whitman bridge.

And no matter what pseudo-swank pasta recipes Pinterest throws my way, I have a huge soft spot for restaurant spaghetti with that electric-red gravy/sauce.

  34. Wah!! This post made me miss the pho restaurant I used to go to just after college!! So glad your heat was restored!!

  35. That girl's day sounds, pretty much, perfect! I find that I am missing my quota of those in my life! And you're an amazing cook, so hopefully, cutting out the processed stuff is fun for you. Everything sounds like it would be delish! Maybe you can give me a few pointers. In lieu of that, I will accept a pan of that chicken and rice stuff you made for Marla, because that was a Goddamned bomb. Hoping to see your face soon!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Finally, heat! Woot, Woot! And yay for cute pugs!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Yay you got your heat back AND a day out with a friend that starts with not showering is actually my kind of day and usually involves a hat or dry shampoo, lol. All of the unprocessed food you talked about sounds so good. Then you ended it with cake and I want it now. Sounds like a fab weekend!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Mother May I Sleep With Danger used to be a major guilty pleasure of mine

    ReplyDelete
  39. The duvet is beautiful - hope the boys respect this one!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Glad your heat got restored and I just love when you post pics of the pups!

  41. First of all: "Fuck yeah."
Second of all... the gym? *insert Britney Spears confused face gif that everyone and their grandma (prob even me) has used HERE*
Also: I want that Ikea cart and I'm stealing your baked hard "boiled" eggs idea.
