TWTW - first one in 2015

I'm taking it back to NYE for this one. Frank, Amanda, Eva, and Debbie joined us for dinner and the ball drop. We had a good night culminating in the banging of the pots & pans. Ending a good year and beginning a new one with great friends was really wonderful.
Thursday Debbie and I braved the winds and headed to the Mummers Parade. It was fun as always, although I'm not a fan of the new route they used this year. We saw it all, parking in South Philly and walking up the entire parade route and then back with MFD's band. We met up with good friends along the way and saw the sights of Philly on New Year's Day: sequins, feathers, confetti, instruments, and tons of beer can trash.
Friday I woke up and thought man, I shouldn't be hungover, I didn't drink that much. Then I realized I had a fever and basically slept for 24 hours, which the dogs loved because all they do is sleep. When I wasn't sleeping, I was watching The Wire, drinking tea, and eating the cure all - wonton soup.
Saturday I was feeling about 75%, so I got the remaining Christmas put away and did some laundry. Sunday was magazines, lounging, more laundry, and prepping for the week.

I also switched out some decor in the kitchen. The before has been up for five years. The top photo is a collage made on Snapfish of all the places we've been this year. I can just switch out the collage going forward. Sorry for the crappy window reflections in the pics.
Sunday afternoon culminated in a crap ton of water on the bathroom floor and palpable rage from all dogs - dog bath day!
I don't get sick often, but it forces things I don't often do - laying around, sleeping a lot/late, and not adhering to a to do list. Sometimes that's really refreshing. So while I'm not a fan of the quick virus, I am a fan of the resultant slow down.

This week's food prep was not needed, which is a blessing when you're not up to it. Breakfast is breakfast burritos from the freezer. Lunches are steak over spinach/tomato/cucumber salad. Dinners are leftover pork & sauerkraut, baked chicken and steamed broccoli. Snacks are carrots, bananas, and power breakfast muffins. Cookies are not on the menu, which will be a shock to the system after existing on them for the month of December.

  1. So sorry you weren't feeling well that stinks! It is nice though to get some much needed rest and relaxing in. Bath day is not fun for all involved. You are getting some serious stink eye in those pics.

  2. That parade looks like so much fun. Mardi Gras, Philly style? I hope you're feeling back to 100%. Wonton soup cures all; I love that my local place adds veggies and pork strips on top. Yum! Have a great week.

PS--Love the Eat Well, Travel Often art. :-)

  12. I loved seeing your pics of the parade on Instagram. I've never been too a Mummer's parade before and it looked like so much fun! I feel like I spent the majority of the weekend cleaning and and trying to put our house back together. Glad your feeling better now!

  14. Your snapfish collage reminded me today is the last day to order free prints on shutterfly! Thanks! I love the new decor & the parade looks like so much fun. I haven't been at 100 since NYD. I'm hoping it goes away soon.

  15. The photo with all the ticker tape in front of City Hall is wonderful! And great job switching out the photos. We also have old old photos in our house. Not even any of the kids on the main living areas!

  16. Inspired by your example, I did my first ever weekend food prep on Sunday! We'll see how it goes, but I'm looking forward to a real dinner tonight with minimal effort.

Sorry you were sick! And my dog hates bath time, too. Dirty pond water = best thing ever! Bathtub = murder attempt to be avoided at all costs.

  18. "Eat well, travel often" should be my personal motto. I love it.

Next year I want to be in Philly on NY's day so I can see the parade- it always looks so fun.

    Glad you're feeling better!!!

  20. I loved looking at all the parade photos!! All the colors! So fun! I didn't get sick this year, but Addie got the flu, so I also took "sick" days with her. It was nice. Movies all day! I love the new kitchen collage. The white frames look awesome!

  25. Looks like NYE was a lot of fun, as well as the parade! It stinks that you woke up not feeling well....but at least you had some down time and weren't having to be at work!

The dogs are adorable after their baths no mater how rage-filled they are. Mac gives me death stares and I just smile at him and tell him he looks like a white rat when he's wet!

Your change out in the kitchen looks good! Is that homemade wonton soup or ordered in? Looks yummy!

  26. I'm going to take a page from your book and have some close friends over for NYE next year. I'd love to be cozy at home munching on snacks and playing games.

Sorry you weren't feeling well, but I agree sometimes it's nice to slow down and catch up on rest and tv :)

  31. I love the new kitchen pictures, I've been itching to replace all my pictures again. Do you like the color quality of the prints you order from Snapfish? I ordered some prints from Walgreens over the holiday and the color was off in the enlargements, so annoying.
