Friday Five: Things I Like About January

Via PBS
1. The return of Downton Abbey. This Sunday you guys! I'm seriously excited. I love getting a bed clothed in fresh sheets early on Sundays and reading a book until Downton comes on. Of course I have some tea on the bedside table to help set the Downton mood.

2. The ability to put on the brakes in regards to schedules. To hunker down at home, to regroup, recharge, rejuvenate. This weekend and another weekend this month have already been designated Do Nothing weekends on my calendar. In pen.

3. Everyone getting their fresh start on in various aspects of their lives. You go, everyone.

4. Vacation days are reset.

5. It's a good time to try some new recipes.

I had a ton of fun at the Mummers Parade yesterday. I'll share some pics in another post. Today? I woke up with a sore throat and a bad cold. I'm in bed with tea and a book. Good thing this weekend was a do nothing weekend anyway.

And you? What are some of your favorite things about January?

Happy birthday weekend to my very own Lady Mary, Laura.

  5. Because if it is on your calendar in pen, then obviously it is a sure thing and happening. Duh!!! I cant wait for all the shows to start back up this month! I feel like something is missing from my life. Sad. Enjoy an awesome weekend of relaxing!

  6. I love your thing about doing nothing in January. I adore just relaxing at home, saving money and keeping warm. Also, the bachelor starts on MONDAY!!!!

  7. Hope you feel better! I've been recouping from a nasty head cold myself. I love do-nothing. This weekend is a do-nothing. Brother gets hitched at the end of the month, so I have to take time when I can! Have a great weekend!

  8. Yessss, the clock restarts on leave. AND since I past my 3rd year here, my leave accrues more hours per pay period. Oh yea. More spa days for me in the future ;).

  9. Downton on Sunday is the ONLY reason I don't mind it being the weekend. School again on Monday. It'll be rough.
(Do you know where I could watch season 4 online? I feel the need to review things…)

January IS good for a reset. I agree.

  14. January is such a weird month for me. I go back to work after having 2 weeks off, I have my 1st semester kids for the first half of the month only for finals & then have to start all over with a new set of kids the second half of the month, & it's the last time I'm back in MN until summer. Plus this year I'll be starting coaching this month too. I'm more ready for February/March when there's a sense of normalcy/routine again.

  18. I love the fresh start. Fresh calendar. New start. Ahhh.... I don't like the weather that comes with January...but not too many complaints here. I mean the crappy weather does mean more PJ days...

  19. I like January in nature. While the stars of the show sleep, the vast scenery of tree branchs, rocky creeks, fields and sky take the stage. The starkness tells the secrets that are hidden in the summer and fall.

Good reasons to like January. I will love January if we have warmer temps and no snow!! You know I love staying home!! Love, your Momma

  24. I love January because it's my birthday month! :) It's in 24 days and I love it! Also love the "do nothing" weekends - my month of January is already full though and with dance classes every Saturday and Sunday I'm pretty much guaranteed to have to get my hiney off my sofa. :) Enjoy your "do nothing" weekend and hope you feel better Stephanie! Take Care -Iva
