Gift Ideas for the Hostess with the Mostess

1. Beautiful Volcano Flowers from The Bouqs - $50. Send some beauty. They last a long time, and if you spent a long weekend with someone or had a great time at a holiday event, show your host some sugar. That is an affiliate link. I sort of feel like flowers are a good thing to send after you leave or before you arrive. It's hard to shove flowers into someone's hands when they're busy greeting and doing.
2. Chocolate Covered Sea Salt Caramels from Whole Foods - 6.99 - 8.99. Perfect hostess gift. If you do the old one for you, one for me method of gift giving, you will eat them all. Trust. Kelly introduced me to these in Boston and I've been hunting them down ever since. You can only get them in certain parts of the country, which is some bullshit. Come on, Whole Foods. Spread the love.

3. Wine. It's the universal sign for I wanted to bring you something, I figured this was okay.

4. You knew a coffee mug was going to be on this list. Try the host's initial, first or last.
5. Downton Abbey Estate Blend Tea ($11.99). Don't we all want to have a cup of tea with the Dowager Countess?

6. For the hosts with a sense of humor: Cards Against Humanity ($25) or if they already have that, one of the expansion packs ($10).
7. Some assorted beauty products and sample sizes in a cute makeup bag. If assembling those types of things isn't your bag, keep some pre-made sets on hand. This one is $14.99 at World Market.

8. A bottle of nail polish and a pair of fancy dancer dish gloves. Let's spread the love and all do our part to make a necessary chore glamorous. I buy mine at HomeGoods for about $4 each.
9. Mini Bonsai Garden Kit ($9.99) if they're into things like that.

10. A sincere thanks for having me note with a $5 gift card to the host's favorite coffee place.

What do you like to bring to your hostess with the mostess?

  4. Story time! I'm a flower/plant person! I went to visit one of my friends in Denmark when she was studying abroad. Her host family invited me to their home for dinner, so I stopped and bought a small flowering plant... So I got there and proudly presented my plant to them. TURNS OUT. The plant represents passionate love. They DIED LAUGHING. I just died! SO... Know what you are taking... #themoreyouknow

  9. OMG those sea salt caramels from WF are seriously my kryptonite. There is a WF across the road from my office and it's dangerous! When I go get some for the office I get one for the office and one for me! :)

  10. I love all of these ideas. And now I am wondering if my Whole Foods has those salted caramels. I can almost bet they don't because....Birmingham. Humph! We are lucky to have a Whole Foods at all!

I have done many of the things on your list, another is a candle. One can never have too many 3-wicked B&B candles, especially when they are on sale! And the home department at TJ Maxx with their cute little plate sets because I wont by them for myself but would love to have them all!

  11. I like all of these suggestions, BUT the flower delivery is a new one to me and something I will have to do! You're so right that it's kind of a pain to hand the bouquet to the host/hostess while they're busy. And who doesn't love a flower delivery!? Love it

I bring my baked goods many times. Made with love, of course.
Totally agree with not bringing flowers as you come in the door!!!

  13. I love the coffee mug. Anything that is monogrammed is always a hit! Or maybe it's just me that loves monograms. The cards against humanity set is a great idea too. I'm going to have to steal that one for one of my friends!

  15. Cards Against Humanity is always a good time!! I like to give wine and I absolutely love to receive it. Whenever I take flowers as a gift, I take ones that are already arranged in a vase so they can just put them down somewhere and enjoy them without the fuss. Great ideas!
