I look around and re-purpose what I have before I buy an organizer. I have a lot of things laying around that would be good organizers. I bet you do too. Before you throw something out, look at it and ask yourself how you could put it to work as an organizer. A magazine holder was on its way and now holds my garden flags. However, sometimes you just need to purchase organizers instead of re-purposing something. Here are some of my favorite organizer purchases:
1. Rectangular sea grass bin from The Container Store - $7.99. I also have one in my linen closet holding extras: mini tissue packs, mouthwash, toothpaste, MFD's shave gel and deoderant.
2. Large multi-purpose translucent bin from The Container Store - $5.99. I also use one of these under the kitchen sink to store water bottles, and an XL one ($6.99) to store dish liquid and other kitchen cleaners. I am not of the "keep all cleaning items in one place" school. When we lived in a small one bedroom apartment, I did that. This house has three floors. Leaving cleaning stuff in each bathroom and the kitchen stuff in the kitchen ensures that those places get wiped down daily.
3. Mini stacking basket from The Container Store - $3.99. I usually have four rolls of TP stacked in here.
4. Shoe boxes from Target - It's been a while, but I think they're around $3? I can fit two flats in one box. I also use them in the linen closet to store medicine, travel sized products, and Qtips/cotton balls. These are a great work horse and can be used throughout the house.
5. Dollar Store organizers. They're a little flimsy, but they do the job. I use them in both freezers to keep shit in check. In the fridge they hold little stuff like MFD's beloved Country Crock, yogurts, etc. They also hold baking stuff: vanilla, baking powder, salt, chips, cookie cutters, etc. I have an oval one under the kitchen sink that holds my dirty towels, napkins, and wash cloths until they're ready to be washed.
6. ClosetMaid Cubeicals from Target - $5.99. I employ these on the book shelf in my room. They hold pajamas, pants, flip flops, slippers, and crapping around t-shirts.
Most of my other organizers come from Marshalls/Home Goods. I'm lured to fun colors and textures, especially for organizers that sit in plain sight.
And, of course, my Muji makeup organizers. They are lebombdotcom.
What are your favorite organizers?
Oh my... this made my little head spin. Think of all the fun on March 29th, after lunch and pottery, we will go buy stuff to organize ALL THE THINGS!! Mainly because I will have won the gift card, and need your guidance to spend it. Duh.
ReplyDeleteYou're kind of like my hero!
Closets! My husband is a packrat so rather than actually get rid of anything, we've just packed more and more crap into our closets... it's pretty bad.
ReplyDeleteOh yeah- I'm all about the containers. The dollar store helped me organize my pantry and my linen closet with the inspiration of Pinterest. My house could totally be a container store commercial. :)
ReplyDeletethe dollar store bins - my favorite!!! i went and bought a whole bunch and we use them to store all kinds of crap in the basement. by crap, i mean to get my husband's billion and one cords out of the way.

Vodka and Soda
So I think this is cool but I am so cheap that I rarely spend money on these things. When we thought we were going to put our house on the market, I did go on a basket-buying binge at Home Goods and we have kept up with keeping shoes in one by the door and magazines in another, so that's a start. I love the idea of keeping a small one under the kitchen sink for dirty dish towels - I may have to grab something for that this weekend. But probably at the Dollar Store because you know, cheapness and all...
ReplyDeleteMy bedroom is a disaster zone. No matter what i do to organize it, it always looks a mess. Need more cubicles for my shelves.
ReplyDeleteI need to do some major organizing in my linen closet and kitchen cabinets. Fingers crossed I win your giveaway :) If not, i'm sure there are some things that could be repurposed.
ReplyDeleteMy entire house need organizing but more specifically the massive amount of toys we have.
ReplyDeleteAhh the toys Christine! Have you seen the shelf organizers that have bins for the toys?
DeleteI don't even want to admit how much i love organizing and containers. it's a sickness really!
ReplyDeleteI label our "medical shit" too. And then every time we move, it gets all mixed up and I have to do it all over again. I buy those containers from dollar stores for my classroom. Lifesavers.
ReplyDeleteI think I will always struggle with the damn kitchen table - my entry way is too small to put any kind of table for the random stuff that always ends up in my purse. I love using boxes that granola bars (or something similar) come in and cut them down to be a drawer organizer. Save them up and you can have tons of compartments in your drawers for next to nothing. Cover them with scrapbook paper or contact paper if you want them to look cute. Way better then dumping a ton of money into the plastic kind!
ReplyDeleteI got like 20 cloth bins from the dollar store and use them for baking supplies, kitchen organization, keeping my mittens together in my closet, and just about anything I wanted to group. I love them and so super cheap.

ReplyDeleteHoly batman I love organizing! I am currently attacking my kids rooms and could use some help :)

Thanks Yasmeen! I think the sea grass bins are very appropriate for public facing storage.
DeleteI love all the organizing things! I have a lot of small bins from the dollar store that hold my measuring spoons, measuring cups, kitchen towels, etc. I also have the real small ones to keep my drawers organized and easier to access everything. I need some organizing stuff for my closet and the guest room right now! Those are huge projects to tackle before my winter goals are up.
ReplyDeleteok i'm inspired. im going to the container store this weekend (winning that giftcard wouldn't hurt tho!)
ReplyDeleteOkay, out of all the giveaways I think I am most excited about this one! I am a sucker for all things organizing and I LOVE the container store! Yay!

I have never been in a Container Store, but I feel like it would be my happy place. It is sick how excited I am to buy ALL OF THE ORGANIZERS for the baby room. I can get that room painted and set up fast enough.
ReplyDeletethese are awesome suggestions, thanks!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from the Random Wednesday Link-up! I love organizing things too! It makes me feel good when everything is where it belongs :)

I love organizers so much. I try not to use too many bins and buckets though. If they are there, the urge is to fill them. I don't want to fill them. So I have 4 in my bookcase (only 2 are full) from Ikea, to corral little shit. Because much to my dismay, there is always little shit. I have a wire basket under the bathroom sink and 2 container store woven baskets. And a carrying bucket under the kitchen sink with cleaning supplies. It's working out so far! But I'm always on the lookout to make it better.
ReplyDeleteOoo one of my favorites its from the Petsmart Martha Stewart line. A fabric box for Hawkeye's toys, and one side has a lower divot cut out so she can stick her head in a get whatever she wants. And she gets a treat when she puts things back in the box. Yes, my dog picks up her own toys.
Oh I love organizing!!!! We just got a Container store by where I live I cannot wait to go!!!

Meet @ the Barre
I keep telling myself to enter this, but can't view the Rafflecopter from work and forget at home! Booo...We have a brand new container store by me and I am dying to go.
ReplyDeleteI am in love with those sea grass bins!! I use bright dollar store containers in my little girls bathroom, they hold her little hair things and shampoo bottle perfectly.
ReplyDeleteI need the most help in my bedroom, other than my office corner it's the landing place for everything that doesn't have a place because no one sees the bedroom. :)
Don't forget the great vases, planters, bowls, boxes (including those amazing ones that hold notecards/xmas cards), cups---anything and everything that is a memory, from a trip, from a family member---they look great holding pens, cluttering things, photos, keys, even cleaning stuff is more fun to use if the "container" makes you smile!!!
ReplyDeleteI use a lot of the same types of bins, but I still can't seem to organize all my jewelry making stuff and my makeup. Maybe if I'd just stop buying more of both HAHA yeah right!
ReplyDeleteI NEED stuff to organize my pantry. Right now food and paper plates attack me when I open it.
ReplyDeleteIt's ok...we're all friends here...be honest... how many times have you sprayed your hair with cleaning things? Hahaha!!
ReplyDeleteThe husband and I desperately need to re-do our bedroom closets, so I've been dreaming of organization stuff for weeks now. My favorite place to buy all things is IKEA-- I'm a sucker for Swedish simplicity :)
ReplyDeleteI can't even count the amount of organizing things I need help with but I'll start with under the kitchen sink. If you'd done this giveaway last week I would have said jewelry but we've already bought that shit (at the Container Store)!
ReplyDeleteAfter reading this, I kinda feel like reorganizing everything in my house. Thank you for sharing such good ideas!
