My mom brought me this Chi-Chi's sombrero from her attic last night. RIP Chi-Chi's. |
Let me start by saying Tuesday sucks. And also that I was not compensated for this post or given a free product to try and review. I'm just passing what I consider to be a good deal on to you, dear readers.
I saw a blog post on a 'lil hoohaa about the Dollar Shave Club in December. What a genius idea for a stocking stuffer! I promptly signed MFD up. Mail fail - it came, I didn't squirrel it away, and I am into instant gratification so I said open it now! He's been using the razor blades for a month and likes them better than his former razors. Can I take a minute to say that I love that I have a husband who will play along with my desired blog photos?
Dollar Shave Club offers packages for $1/month, $6/month, or $9 for month. I chose the $6/month package for MFD. The initial package includes the razor and four blades, and four new blades arrive via mail every month. It's marketed towards men, but it's a great deal for women too. I thought let me get in on that, and bought a one off razor and pack of cartridges for myself. I'll just steal one of his or order another set to arrive with his monthly order whenever I'm running out. The razors are good and do what razors should do.
MFD's razor expenses went from $14/month down to $6/month, a savings of $96/year. I only buy cartridges every other month, so I went from $72/year to $36/year for an overall razor savings of $132/year. I love cutting costs like a boss wherever I can, especially if the product performs well at the lower price point.
If you want to save some cash, give Dollar Shave Club a try. I also learned that you can buy blades direct from Dorco USA, which supplies Dollar Shave Club, and if you buy in bulk you can save more - 6 packs of four blade razors for $28, free shipping over $25. So you can save $8 more over a period of six months if you choose. I will never remember when we're out, so I'm sticking with a monthly delivery from Dollar Shave Club that requires no thought or action from me.

I thought this was a good savings opportunity to pass on - every little bit counts, right?
what the what? i will have to see if they do this for your fellow canucks because for some reason, companies love to diss us canadians. i always steal my husband's razors because i hate spending that much $$ for razors. don't even talk to me about sasquatchian issues - i am the hairiest asian alive, i shit you not. thanks for sharing!! i love me a good razor that doesn't take off my skin and actually does the job.

They have it in Canada too, Kathy! I think it is a tiny bit more expensive (of course), but still cheaper than buying razors at a store!! You just have to select Canada as your region on their website!
DeleteSpencer would probably really enjoy this. He never has found a razor he truly loves, so this would let him try something new.
ReplyDeleteI am going to have to check this out. I HATE paying ridiculous amounts of money on razors and other products (ahem feminine kinds) that cost outrageous amounts of money per month! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI will totally check this out. Anyway to save is a plus, which means I can then shop more, right?
ReplyDeleteI've always wondered about this. Good to know it works! My husband has weirdly sensitive skin so suggesting that he change anything about his shaving routine is blasphemy, but good to know that you approve of their use for you! I'm not picky!
ReplyDeleteI am forwarding this blog to Rich and Sean. Stephen changes his face hair-do every day, I think, LOL. He may enjoy it, too. Mike Doyle always is clean-shaven. #verynice
ReplyDeleteI am always corn-fused when I am to pick up blades at the Sam's. This sounds like a good deal.
Oh, fanks for this info.
Love, YOUR MOMMA
Get them on the Dollar Shave Club program mother!
Deletegod why are razors so flippin expensive! I am going to need to look into this! I usually but a huge pack at costco for an obscene amount of money so I only have to be sick over it a few times a year!
ReplyDeleteI showed this to Tom - we are on board! Starting next month when we are almost out of our current razors. Thanks for the review! I saw the commercial and was curious about them, more for me than for Tom since he only trims up his beard. Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteOh good Al! It's a good money saver.
Deletewhat?! this is so awesome. looking into this now. thank ya!
ReplyDeleteI started using this over the summer and I'm obsessed! I was getting them every month and my fiancé and I were just sharing each cartridge (two each) but my parents gave him a fancy electric one for Christmas so now I've cut it to every other month and it's awesome!
ReplyDeleteAaron needs to get on this!
ReplyDeleteYay they do Canada but a little more expensive! but that is okay! :) thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLove your mom's comment today, once again!
ReplyDeleteWas the sombrero your big surprise? God I miss Chi Chis. I still buy their brand of salsa. So good.
Buying razors is ridiculous. Thank god John only shaves every two days. I was checking them out at Sam's yesterday, and they seem to have the best deal on them. I just can't bring myself to spend $40 on fucking razors. Why the hell are they so damn expensive? It is plastic and thin pieces of metal, not gold.
I watch both their ads when I'm bored and/or sad. They are HILARIOUS.
ReplyDeleteI'm terrible with splurging on razors because living in the sun all the time I constantly want a fast, smooth shave and the best solution I found was a $18 reload package that lasts me a little over a month but it has the soap/lotion around the blade so I don't know if I could give that up! Thanks for the idea though I'm still going to look into it to cut that dreaded cost.
ReplyDeleterazors are sooooo expensive so this is a great way to make them last longer! I also heard on some money saving podcast that if you dry off your razor after each use you can get it to last even longer. I keep mine in the shower so I haven't tried it yet but the guy on the podcast said he had been using the same razor blade for like 5 months or something!

This is happening, I loathe the buying of expensive razor blades. Thanks Stephareeno!
ReplyDeleteI hear you Ho! You're welcome!
DeleteI've heard of this but still haven't pulled the trigger! Razors are so expensive these days, I need to at least give this a shot.
ReplyDeleteMFG only got the $6/month package? So, basically you love him but not $9 worth, right? ;P
ReplyDeletemfD. fuck you, you stupid fat fingers.
Deletehmm, I may need to look into this. I didn't know it existed.
ReplyDeleteI saw this and wondered about the quality. May be worth a try, although I buy razors when I have coupons (usually buy one get one free) so I have a stockpile right now.
ReplyDeleteRazors are soooo expensive! You did good!
ReplyDeleteI try to keep Joe from shaving because I like the scruffy look on him. But maybe I'll need to sign him up for this for his benefit even though it hurts me :)
ReplyDeletethat haiku was magical :) I wish this existed in Canada, it would help to remind me to shave!
ReplyDeleteI buy mine at Sam's will have to check.this out.
ReplyDeleteLovely post and a kick ass haiku! Savings should always go towards new shoes!
ReplyDeleteAnd now I have that 'New Shoes' song in my head.
Steve been using DSC for probably over a year now. It is super!!! I use them too.!
Interesting. Never even heard of it. Maybe this will motivate me to shave my legs more often....or not....it's still winter.
ReplyDeleteI am SO checking this out! Justin tried the Harry's brand razors but didn't like it.
ReplyDeleteMy husband has been wanting to try this out, but hasn't got around to it yet!
ReplyDeleteIf only Jacob shaved... Haha!
