Spinach dip for Saturday

Extra crispy Ellio's pizza and a gasping snorting fit of laughter while watching Parks & Rec.
"Jerry, did you eat farts for lunch?"
Proving once again that farts are always funny.
And so is Parks & Rec.

I'd omit the italian seasoning next time. Make sure you salt the ground turkey.
It came out of the oven watery, so drain it and you'll be good to go.

Hearty and healthy.

Sunday soup made on Saturday: veggie beef barley.
Just like Mom Mom used to make.

I had to use tomato paste, and had a bunch left over.
I froze it in tablespoon size portions using the ever handy ice cube tray.

Happily cleaning up from a productive Friday night in the kitchen at 11:30 p.m.
Times have changed.

Cutest boys ever.
Friday night issues: I picked a huge fat tick off of Geege,
and Gus had a toenail issue so he was up all night.
Which meant I was up all night.
\MFD had to take him to the vet on Saturday, and he was weird the rest of the weekend. My poor boy.

Saturday morning's coffee was so so necessary.
If you're in Philly, head to Mugshots for yours!

A trip to Redner's for some gallons of water, pimentos and pumpkin.
Why do people load up on perishable items before storms? I saw a man with four cartons of eggs.
I got water because one of my greatest fears is to be without water when I need a drink.
If you see me sitting in my house, there will always be a glass next to me.
Agua issues.

Halloween prep.
I was ready for a full 45 minutes before MFD was ready.
This is nothing out of the ordinary in our house.
Thanks to my mother and father-in-law for staying over with the dogs!
We were Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinsky. Tasteless, I know.

Good times at Jill & Frank's Annual Halloween Party.
I enjoyed one million swedish fish vodka drinks, there were fabulous dips to be had, I Hate Dead Rabbits was the required firepit saying, MFD wore different costumes in his unique way, and the party was a lot of fun like it is every year.
I went to bed smelling like fire pit smoke and singing Kenny's original composition in my head.
+
Sunday morning I dropped MFD off at his mummer clubhouse.
+
I decided to stop at Sam's since I have a business membership and few others would be there.
I did end up seeing my uncle in the parking lot, which was fun.
My small haul: healthy, healthy, healthy...and damn good.

Sunday dinner:
pimento cheese chicken, mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli.
If I'm making mashed potatoes on Sunday, they're loaded with butter and some sour cream.
Not the light version, in other words.
Thanks to Shelby at Big Hungry Shelby for the link to the pimento cheese baked chicken.

Hurricane freezer prep: fill baggies with water and put them in the nooks and crannies in your freezer.
They'll freeze solid and if your power goes out, will help to keep your food cold longer.
Or they can be used in coolers. Thanks to Suzi for this tip last year around Irene time!
When the threat is over, let them thaw in the sink and reuse the bags.
MFD makes fun of me when I do this, but like everything else in life,
I like to hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

Dear universe: please don't let Sandy be as bad as predictions, and pretty please let all the trees around our house remain intact and standing. AMEN HOLLER.
Love you all like Emily loves Revenge. Stay safe this week if you're in the path of Frankenstorm.
The pimento cheese chicken recipe is pinned on my Something Yummy board, if you need it. I think I will freeze some bags of water when I get home. Good thinking.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, thank you. I know I repinned it but I can't find it on my boards. I'll go back and edit with the link.
Deleteall of that food just looks so damn goooooood! and that candle from bath and body! i snagged a couple when they were buy one get one and when i took a little sniff of the french baguette one i was preeeetty impressed. They really freakin nailed the scent of fresh bread, kind of heavenly!
ReplyDeletegood luck weathering the storm! I'm starting to get nervous that i'm underprepared...might be stealing the baggies filled with water trick considering i never even thought about the food going bad. can you tell i'm not used to having to worry about a household?!

Isn't the resemblance to the actual french bread smell amazing? I was wowed.
DeleteThe water baggies trick was the best thing I learned from Irene this year. Thankfully we didn't need them then and I hope we don't need them now!
OMG MY kid is calling kids kids for saying YOLO!#TIMEFLIES!
ReplyDeleteHave been waiting all morning for this blog while doing anti-hurricane things, tweeting, more wash, etc.
Let's all do this cheer

Hurricane Sandy- be a pal
Go on out to the ocean NOW!
Or Mr. Gru from Despicable me could steal the moon to prevent high tide!
Always the optimist, postive, ever-loving MOMMA!
All my chickens better stay inside and stay safe!!!
I'm not going out mom, it's your sons you need to worry about!
DeleteSuch a good idea with the tomato paste!! I always end up throwing the majority of it away because I use a little bit, it sits in the fridge, and then I never need it again...freezing it is brilliant.
ReplyDeleteI've been freezing things in ice cube trays for the past year when I realize it's so wasteful to throw them out - I've done it with herbs and wine leftover from a party - that was great for cooking.
DeleteAll those look so good! I found you on the Weekend Update link up and I'm now following :)
ReplyDeletexo,

I'm having a giveaway on my blog if you're interested :)
Awesome! I'm working my way through weekend update blogs now, I'll head over to yours. Thanks Jan!
Deletei hate picking ticks out of my dogs, eeww! and even worse when the tick's head doesnt come off then it is a trip to the vet. pimiento cheese chicken sounds really great!
ReplyDeleteThe chicken was good and left plenty of leftovers! Thankfully I got the entire tick out, SO GROSS, I was freaking.
DeleteYour pugs are adorable! Sad to hear they had some trauma this weekend! My pup is currently going crazy from all the rain from Sandy! He just wants to play outside!
ReplyDeleteOne of them is sleeping through Sandy and one of them is fretting. Maybe some serious fetch will tire your pup out?
DeleteI am so hungry after looking through this post!! Everything looks so good. I went as Monica Lewinsky once for Halloween. I swear every guy had a cigar that night and wanted to get their picture taken with me. LOL. Stay safe tonight!
ReplyDeleteIt was hilarious being Monica. People were like oh, yes...Monica Lewinsky. ahahah
DeleteGirl, YOU CAN COOK!!!!! Or at least you take very nice photos of your cooking. But I'm guessing it all tastes damn good, too!
ReplyDeleteLOOOOOVE Mugshots, I was just there last week! My friends lives around the corner from the Penitentiary (sp?) and we go there every time I visit her. I love their new location!
Hope you're safe!!!!! Thinkin of ya!
One of our good friends from high school owns Mugshots. We love it. The cupcakes are to die for!
DeleteAw thanks, I love to try new recipes.
What a weekend!! The food looks amazing. You honestly had me at spinach dip and pumpkin chocolate chip bread. I love your idea of saving leftover canned items in ice cube trays. Very smart and stops waste! And your Halloween party looks great. I missed that this year.
ReplyDeleteYou can never go wrong with spinach dip. Ever!
DeleteThese look so good!

DeleteStay safe!!! Great idea with the tomato paste!!!
ReplyDeleteNow I just need a freezer inventory so I remember I have them in there. hahaha
DeleteLooks like a pretty delicious weekend! Love the photos from the Halloween party. Cruella is my favorite. And those pumpkins are amazing!
ReplyDeleteI loved the pumpkins, I have zero carving skills. My friends have talent!

ReplyDeleteThanks! Have a great Wednesday!
DeleteOMG! Your costumes were hilarious!!! Loved them!! And how clever are you to put the tomato paste in the ice cubes to freeze!? Genius!
ReplyDeleteIce cube trays are good to freeze herbs too!
