Every year I kick myself because I am walking by the Army and Navy bands during load out because I've missed the Army Navy Pep Rally that takes place right next to my office. Not this year! The bands were great and the energy was high.
Friday night was my office Christmas party at Barbuzzo. The food and service was excellent. I am always hunting down private rooms in Center City that can do a cocktail reception for 50 people. This was a huge winner of a venue.
My original weekend plan included being a hermit on Saturday and peeking my head out of the house Sunday, but the warmer temperatures enticed us to the shore instead. I was down the shore by 10 on Saturday morning. I hit the discount bookstore and Bennie's Bread while waiting for MFD, then we all hit the beach. It was insanely nice for December 12. I left him fishing and did some cleaning upstairs in the house.
MFD and I walked to Vittorio's for dinner. Open year round, the service was friendly and the food wasn't bad. Does your husband use street meters to adjust his back? No? Okay.
After we hung a few things in the efficiency, MFD went fishing and I put stuff away. The pictures and mirror on the right were going to go above the couch, but now fishing rods are going there instead because I am in the running for the wife of the year award. If you're wondering why everything is so high, it's because the ceilings are so low down there.
Sunday morning's sunrise was a dud...which is why I always like to go 10-15 minutes early because that's my favorite light, and the sky tends to light up even if it is too cloudy on the horizon to see the sun pop over it. Top: pre-show, bottom, sunrise time. Go early! It pays.
MFD was out late fishing and declined to join me at the Sunrise Cafe for breakfast. I had a good cup of coffee and a porkroll, egg, and cooper sharp on a kaiser. It's a cheery little spot just two blocks from our house.
I cleaned up the efficiency, took another stroll on the beach in short sleeves and bare feet - in New Jersey! On December 13! then headed home. Aunt Carrie and Uncle Jim stopped by with an awesome flip flop wreath and Amazon gift card. On the ride home from the shore, I was thinking about how I wanted to get a flip flop wreath in the spring - total kismet! I took some clothes that I purged last week to Goodwill, went to the grocery store, rode around with the sunroof open, and wrapped some gifts.
Weekly food prep: breakfast burritos from the freezer for breakfast, salads for lunch; bananas and bell peppers for snacks; poop soup and baked sweet potato slices for the dogs; dinner from the freezer as well - stuffed pepper soup, frozen stuffed shells. In case you couldn't tell, it's time to clear out the freezer a little. We did grill baked potatoes and steaks Sunday because it was 70 degrees...how could you not?
Other Sunday things: freaking laundry. Home sheets and shore sheets, home towels and shore towels. And reading. Lots of reading all weekend.
And that's that for me. How was your weekend?
How cool you say the pep rally! I bet it was amazing. I can't wait to go to the Army/Navy game one year, it's on the bucket list for sure. This weekend was quite warm and it was fantastic. Feels like Christmas in California!
ReplyDeleteIt is so insane how warm the east coast has been this time of year but so glad you go to enjoy another great weekend at the shore! I never thought to use the meters for adjustment - but I think he's on to something! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteIt's a dream come true! This weather is s dream come true! I am so thankful for all of it! Very nice of Aunt Carrie and Uncle Jim! Have a holly, jolly week!
ReplyDeleteLove. Your. Momma.
So nice that you got to enjoy the shore house without a long list of to-do's. It was so amazing warm this weekend, glad you enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteThe Christmas party sounds like a great time, and it sounds like your trip to the shore was awesome! Even though it's usually a lot warmer in Texas than other parts of the country during December, it's been insanely warm here too. It was in the 80s for our work Christmas party and our first tacky sweater party. It was hard to feel festive with it being that hot!
ReplyDeleteSunrise is the best--and so is that pork roll egg and cheese--you have me craving one this morning! So nice that you were able to go down the shore and enjoy this weather--so so envious of that! I need more deets on your place for this summer so I can run it by my in-laws and see what their plans are for the summer!
ReplyDeleteYou looked so pretty for your office party! Love the necklace, too!
ReplyDeleteAdjusting his back on a parking meter is GENIUS! Whenever I'm somewhere with a hard chair, I do it... this opens up a whole new world of cracking possibilities!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mmmm poop soup, looks delish! (Totally kidding...)
ReplyDeleteQuestion - are there UNhappy donuts? Glad the unseasonable temps lead to a great weekend for you, but not gonna lie, I'm hoping the east coast gets itself together and gets colder when I'm there next week. My sweaters aren't getting worn in Houston so I was hoping to need them up there!
Can you believe you're almost ready to put it up for rent? All that hard work paying off.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh - I'd get up early for those early morning light pictures too - so beautiful & worth it.
Your breakfast sandwich looks amazing! & I love watching the sunrise at the beach, what a great view.
ReplyDeleteIt was so weird this weekend to be running errands without a coat! That's so nice that your shore house is close enough to actually enjoy on weekends. I'm very fortunate my parent's have their house on Cape Cod but it is SO far. Your office Christmas party looks like it was a lot of fun too!
ReplyDeleteThe weather is amazing right now, I'm hoping it can hold on for our ocean front family beach week!
ReplyDeleteSunrise is moving back to after school drop off so I'm excitedly looking forward to all the beautiful skies in my future.
It's unseasonably warm everywhere it seems! I mean I know I am in Florida, but I just want it to be in the 60's - is that TOO much to ask for?! Boo
ReplyDeleteI must be the only one who is sick of the warm temps! I want cold or it just doesn't feel like the holidays to me. But then again I live in GA so "cold" does not mean snow and ice and all the horrible stuff you guys get. Love the flip flop wreath, the house is so cute! I am totally jealous!
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous that it's been warm there. It rained all weekend and then blizzarded last night here. Ugh. I'll trade for barefoot on the beach any time!
ReplyDeleteWe took the child to the beach on Sunday for her birthday. It's her favorite place and when it's 70 degrees for your December birthday, you go to the beach. She saw Santa, played in the sand, ate pizza and candy, and all kinds of other fun kid stuff. To say she enjoyed herself is an understatement.
ReplyDeleteI totally understand the search for that type of venue- they are tough to come by it seems. Glad this got a stamp of approval! :) So exciting that your place is almost listed for rent!
ReplyDeleteHow fun is that pep rally?! That must have been an amazing experience! And I can't believe the weather this year, it's been much warmer than usual everywhere it seems like. It's going to be 88 here on Thursday, but then in the upper 50's/low 60's on Saturday.
ReplyDeleteCheers to a fabulous week!
I'm so over this warm weather! It's December I should be freezing my butt off. I want to wear my sweaters and scarves not my summer clothes. End Rant. hahah and I also want a White Christmas.
ReplyDeleteThat would be so cool to see the bands play at that pep rally!!! Sounds like you guys are finally getting to enjoy the shore house a little! Yay!!!! I love that first picture, you are right. You gotta go early! I am glad that it is warm up there too and I don't feel like I am missing out on winter just because we are in the south. I cant even dress for this crap. Not appropriate to wear summer dresses and shoes yet too hot for sweaters and boots. Gross!
ReplyDeleteit's so warm over here too, apparently the warmest since the 1870s! can't believe your place is almost ready to go!
ReplyDeleteSounds like an amazing weekend, and you got some much needed down time :) That breakfast sandwich looks so good! It is crazy that it's warmer on the East coast (Raleigh) than it has been here the last several days :(
ReplyDeleteIt's unbelievable how warm it still is. Glad you're able to enjoy the shore and beach longer than expected. I love reading about everyone's holiday parties. Sounds like a nice night was had.
ReplyDeleteDude, that breakfast sandwich looked GOOD.
ReplyDeleteoh yay, thats so cool you got some relaxing and whatnot done at the shore. lol'd so hard at MFD and the parking meter. you are definitely winning wife of the year what with fishing lines and swimming with sharks.
ReplyDeleteSounds so fun! It looks like the shore house has brought so many moments of peace and serenity. And your husband endlessly seems so, so funny. I love it. I really, really think I have been to that Sunrise cafe before. And all your breakfast food sounds so good as I haven't had mine yet. A little annoyed I have yogurt to look forward to ... [insert emoji displeased face]
ReplyDeleteI miss seeing the sunrise on the beach. I would have totally joined your for breakfast at Sunrise Cafe. :)
ReplyDeleteXOXO
That is some good advice about the sunrise. And I love that flip flop wreath. So cute for the beach!
ReplyDeleteThis weekend was so wonderful. We didn't quite make sunrise, but enjoyed a little ocean time Sunday AM. Have you ever eaten at a Turning Point? I guess they are all over Jersey and I'm in love. Also, Justin is already dreaming of a weekend at your shore house this Spring. He loves your sunrise photos.
ReplyDeleteYou and MFD look great at the Christmas party! Did you cut your hair?? That fishing get-up is something else!! The shore house is really coming along... and I'm jealous of all your weekend sunrises... but I'm so glad you're enjoying the heck out of that shore house!
ReplyDeleteDecember + NJ does not equate to beach for me. That's actually pretty fun to have a random nice weather day. Call me silly, but I love a good marching band and pep rally. I'd enjoy seeing the Army & Navy kids do their thang.
ReplyDeleteAwesome, but what was the red food at Vittorio's?
ReplyDeleteAlso, can't wait to see the 'for rent' info!
